Trustees’ Annual Report
For the year ended 31 December 2024
The trustees present their report and accounts for the year ended 31 December 2024 Structure
North Shields Fishermen's Heritage Project is a Registered Charity no. 1197252, governed by the Board of Trustees.
Governance and Management
The Board of Trustees ensures that the organisation is legally compliant in all areas including finance, health and safety.
Reserves Policy
In light of the trustees determination to secure office/community hub premises on the North Shields quayside in 2025 to better facilitate the work of the charity in the heart of the local fishing community, the trustees have agreed to ringfence (in this and coming financial years) an amount equivalent to approximately 6 to 9 months of the planned annual running costs of the charity from the charity's current reserves and future income, to help with continuity of the charity's work should there be any short-term disruption in income (for example, by another outbreak of covid)
Financial Review
The organisation regularly reviews its financial position and systems.
Achievements and Performance of Trust
Besides continuing to fundraise for and organise the very successful and memorable annual trips for local schoolchildren to the Hull Fishing Heritage Centre, the trustees and volunteers will be busy in the coming year on a number of other projects:
We continue in our efforts to gain funding for a more permanent base in the centre of our community by way of Office cum Hub premises on the North Shields Quayside and hope to achieve this in 2025. Besides allowing us to host visits and events for the local community and project plan the work of the charity more effectively, this should also help us further develop the outreach health support / awareness-raising with members of the local fishing community we are already having success with, with our partners MacMillan Cancer Care and other health providers we hope to work with.
We are also working closely in partnership with North Tyneside Council in organising the local community celebrations / parade for NS800 this summer and hope to gain funding for our project to digitise and make more widely available to the local community an unpublished history of the North Shields Quayside entrusted to us by an ex Shields Dockmaster's family.
There's plenty of work to do and we thank all our volunteers and supporters for helping us get this far and hope we can count on your continuing support over the coming year.
