OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES

The objectives of the CIO, as set out in its governing document, are in all cases for the public benefit, to support such charities and charitable purposes as the Trustees from time to time think fit.

The charity furthers its charitable purposes for the public benefit through providing grants to charities.

The trustees have given due regard to the Charity Commission guidance on public benefit when reviewing the charity’s aims and objectives and in planning its activities and grant making policy for the year.

ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE

The charity has provided grants of £92,907 during the year (2022: £105,000).

A grant of £50,000 was made to the Screen Academy Foundation. The Screen Academy Foundation is dedicated to advancing the education of pupils at the London Screen Academy, East London Arts & Music and other schools with similar values and with a focus on education in the creative industries.

A grant of £20,000 was made to Willard Carter. The purpose of this grant was to support and further the studies of a very talented, young cellist who came to the foundation asking for help.

A grant of £13,500 was made to War Child. War Child protects, educates and stands up for the rights of children in war.

A grant of £5,000 was made to Dr Clare McCaughey. The purpose of this grant was to help a group established in the aftermath of the Marrakech Earthquake in September 2023 by Doctor Clare McCaughey, an English doctor who has been practising for years in Marrakech.

A grant of £3,134 was made to Madison Cox. The purposes of this grant was towards a charitable play by Madison cox in support of the work of the Association de Lutte Contre Le Sida in Tangier.

A grant of £863 was made to Marrakech Earthquakes Urgence Help. The purposes of this grant was to support an emergency group in the aftermath of the Marrakech Earthquakes in September 2023.

A grant of £410 was made to the British Film Institute. The British Film Institute ensures that film is central to our cultural life, in particular by supporting and nurturing the next generation of filmmakers and audiences.

FINANCIAL REVIEW

The charity received donations of £80,407 during the year (2022: £120,000). Expenditure during the year was £93,377 (2022: £105,036).

The charity has unrestricted reserves of £1,994 at 31 December 2023 (2022: £14,964).

Apart from the monthly expenses needed for the correct running of the charity, it is not the intention of the Trustees to hold reserves at the end of the year.

STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT

The charity is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation and is governed by its Constitution dated 21 December 2021.

Trustees are appointed by a resolution passed at a properly convened meeting of the charity trustees. In selecting individuals for appointment as charity trustees, the charity trustees must have regard to the skills, knowledge and experience needed for the effective administration of the CIO.

Independent examiner’s report to the Trustees of the Tanagra Foundation

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of Tanagra Foundation (the charity) for the year ended 31 December 2023, which are set out on pages 4 to 5.

Responsibilities and basis of report

As the trustees of the charity you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011(‘the Act’).

I report in respect of my examination of the Trustee’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act.
