Trustees' Statement – Building Foundations (Charity No. 1197220) 

The trustees of Building Foundations present their annual statement for the period under review. Building Foundations is a small, local charity established as a community interest company in late 2021 and registered as a charity in Wales. Our principal object is to advance education for public benefit by providing informal training, mentoring, and supported work experience to young people and others not in education, employment, or training (NEET), including those with additional needs, long-term unemployment, or mental health challenges. 

Operating from The Warehouse community hub in Rogerstone, Newport, we deliver practical opportunities in construction skills—enabling participants to gain basic qualifications and safe site experience—as well as hospitality and catering through our community coffee shop, The Loading Bay Community Café. This equipped space offers real-world work placements, where participants develop essential customer service, food preparation, life skills, and confidence in a supportive, welcoming environment that also serves the local community with parent-and-toddler groups and soft play facilities. 

Looking ahead, the trustees are committed to strengthening relationships with local schools and Youth Cymru to establish a targeted education program for 14- to 16-year-olds disengaged from mainstream education. This will include practical pathways via construction training and cafébased hospitality experience to re-engage young people, prevent long-term disengagement, and support positive futures. 

The charity is governed by its trustees, who ensure funds are used efficiently and solely for charitable purposes in line with Charity Commission guidance on public benefit. We comply with all regulatory requirements, maintain transparent records, and rely on grants, donations, and partnerships to expand our impact.
