## **Achievements and Performance**

||SORP reference||
|---|---|---|
|Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.|Para 1.20|-
The orchestra provides an opportunity
for nearly 100 musicians to benefit from
making music together, and has put on
6 public concerts, reaching over 1600
members of the public.
-
The orchestra put on a free concert for
children and their families, with a range
of music. The concert was advertised
in schools in disadvantaged areas, and
offered children the opportunity to
conduct an orchestra, meet musicians
and have a go playing different
instruments. 425 people attended this
concert.
-
For each term, the charity has
continued to sponsor musicians who
would not otherwise have been able to
afford to play in the orchestra, including
a sponsored double bass role.
-
Our concerts have broadened the
scope of music available to the public,
including music by female composers
which have been only rarely performed.|

The orchestra has commissioned and premiered two works by young composers, one of whom is female. One piece was commissioned for our childrens’ concert, as an educational piece, giving children a musical tour through the instruments of the orchestra. - The orchestra has raised £400 to purchase musical instruments for schools in deprived areas.

## **Financial Review**

|Review of the charity’s
financial position at the end
of the period|Para 1.21|LCO had a mostly healthy financial year
24-25, with a slight downward trend. The
year ended c.£5,000 lower than the start of
the year, with LCO’s reserves at £10,470.
The committee discussed this financial
performance at the AGM in early 2026 and
identified areas of high expenditure
including ambitious concerts with multiple
guest musicians, rising costs of venues for
rehearsals and concerts, and paying fair
rates to conductors. The committee also
discussed ways to boost and safeguard
LCO’s reserves, including focusing on less
cost-intensive concerts, limiting recording,
and encouraging greater concert
attendance.|
|---|---|---|
|Statement explaining the
policy for holding reserves
stating why they are held|Para 1.22|LCO ring-fences £5,000 of its bank
account, and activates urgent money-
saving measures when this is breached.|
|Amount of reserves held|Para 1.22|£5,000|
|Reasons for holding zero
reserves|Para 1.22|N/A|
