Achievements and Performances
Our first conc¢rt in December was an ambitious combination of Britten's S¢7ini NELol&.s, Finzi's
ethercal Jn ferrd P(LY and Haydn's Mi.¥.¥a Saiicli Nicoloi. The choir, encouraged by excellent
playing of the Lichfield Camerdia and Direction by Ben Lamb, rose lo the challenge of portraying
angels. terrified sailors and monks and rejoicing al the rescue of some pickled boys. The Britten
required contributions by several euTrent and fornier chorisiers who sang admirubly. The large
forces required, and high music costs of perfonning less well-known mu51C Still in wpyrighi
meant that the perforniance at a luss of £2,723.
Our EASter perforniance of Rossin's Petiie Messe Svlonelle witnessed a local reunion of
beautifully matched solaists- 118￿]e[ Rawles. Cathy l.amb, Robin Morton and Fran Ambrose
accompanied by Libby Burgcss on piano and Liam Condon playing harnionium. A joyous and
heartfeli perforn]ance was enjoyed by a larger audience and th¢ ¢vent made a small surplus of
£467.
Our final perforniance of thc s¢ason w2s a perfonnance of musi¢ by John Rutter and Ben Lamb,
under his pseudonym of Disraeli Brown. We welcomed many ncw Inembers who came and sang
with us for a tern) as a taster. alongF with the wonderful Lichfield Musicshare Young and Youth
Voices. The lovely weather. repcrtoire and larger number of perf0rn1ers meant that we had our
largest audience for a summer concert in many years. The perfonnance wa8 a success musically.
promoting our gFroup and supporting th¢ local area through song. It also madc a surplus of £3,075.
Two long s¢rving Iruslees of the Chorus stood down in November 2022. We thank Nick Waller
and Eric Lunt for their hard work in kecping the Chorus buoyant throughout the challenges before.
during and afier lockdown. We also thank Pippa Allen-simpson for her work in promoiing the
Chorus beyond its traditional bounds.
Financial Reviem
The year stan¢d with a direct appeal to our mcrnbers 10 donate a small amount in excess of their
annual subscriptions. This was done as the trust¢¢s believed that the small¢r meinbership level
and hence smaller con¢¢rt audiences would not 5UPPOrt the fixed operational cost5 of the charity.
We are very grateful io All who responded by generously donaiing a total of over £1,500.
We have come to an agreement over the use of thc Cathedral for rehearsal and pcrftsrniance. This
agreement involves a significani increase li) cost through grant to the Cath¢dral compared to the
previous arrangcment. However it has cemented the position of the Chorus as part of the life or
the Cathedral.
Other costs haw¢ inereased significantly du¢ to global inflarionary pressures. The tnjgiees have
explored sei'eral ways of reducing cost aiid increasing revenue. We arc looking for local corporaie
sponsorship, to ensure (hai we keep the price of concert tickets as affordable as possible, whilst
being able 10 work with talented soloiyts and instrumental perfomiers.
Moviiig forward the Iruslees have d¢¢idcd not to announce subscription rates for the next year at
the AGM as Ihete is cuThnily loo much economic uncertainty due to global affairs. Instcad, th¢
subscription rates for ihe next year will be announced by tht end of May each year. For
202312Q24 full subscriptions were sct at £165 and the Senior Citizen rate wag abolished.
The attached financial statements show the current stalc of thc finances of the CIO organisation,
.hich the TNstees consider tu be sound. Free reserk'¢5 at 31 July 2023 were £27,4021£27,568 at
31 July 20221.
