Annual report
The Trustees of the Christadelphian Support Network UK present the annual report
of the Charity for the year ended 30 September 2023.
Strurture and Governance
The Charlty was incorporated on 16 December 2021 under Charity number 1197175
replacing an existing charity of the same name registered under number 1089965.
The Trustees are legally accountable for the assets of the Charity.
The Trustees unanimously agreed to accept the transfer of all activities, assets, and
liabilities of the predecessor Charity to the new Charity with effect from l October
2022. The old Charity will hereafter act as agent forthe new Charitable Incorporated
Organisation in any residual matters until such time as it is formally closed.
The Trustees and Committee Members meet as a Managing Commlttee seven times
a year. Sub-committees are formed as necessary to undertake specific tssks on
behalf of the Managing Committee.
The Managin8 Committee have reviewed and revised the roles and responsibilities
of Trustees in relation to the Charity, and established skills and competencies in
relation to the requirements of the Charity and Charity Commission 8uidance.
The skills and suitability of applicants forTrustee and Committee member roles are
assessed against the anticipated needs of the Charity going forward. a skllls matrix
and following an interview with the Trustees. Vacancies are always advertised by
appropriate channels through the UK Christadelphian community to maximlse
experience and encourage diversity. Prospective Trustees and Members of the
Managing Committee are encouraged to attend at least two meetings as observers,
before formal commitments are made both by the individual and the Charity.
The Trustees and Committee members gNe their time voluntarily and, other than
reimbursement of out of pocket expenses. receive no remuneration or other
benefits from their role.

Objectives and Activities
In planning our activities for the year. we kept in mind the Charity Commission's
guidance on public benefit. The focus of our activities remains:
he support of individuals, members of our church community and their families,
who are experiencing problems.. In a phrase, 'helping the hurting.,
CSN also .
• encourages awareness of issues affecting individuals and our community
• supports actlvltles and events to foster understandln& klndness, and mutual
support in our community
We prov5de support to all who approach us, irrespertive of being In our church
communlty their wider famllies and the public. In accordance wlth the Equality Art
2010 we support each of the nine protected characteristics, and help anyone
approaching us regardless of personal back8round, or circumstances. We believe
this philosophy of openness to all enriches everyone throu8h the sharing of skllls,
attitudes, and life experiences.
In more detall, the charlty provides .
'Helpline', a confidential and caring service via phone or e-mail for anyone with
a difficult personal problem. This offers at least 'a listenin8 ear, and provldes for
skilled sUPPOrt where necessary and available.
'Prayerline', a telephone service encouraging prayer for and with each other via
a matrix of confidential helpers.
Support for the spiritual wellbeing of church members and their wider families
and friends who are facing life's difficulties.
Specialist advice for church elders. youth leaders and pastoral care teams in the
Christadelphian community who may not have access to such areas of expertise.
A centre of expertise on the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults.
Programmes of events and activities to consider issues and difficulties faced by
our mernbers and their families with a view to raising awareness and
encouraging compassionate care and mutual support in our community.

Support for an annual Sisters Day. to provide mutual encouragement to
members, family, and friends and to contribute to communal worship.
Comprehensive Website including a resources library covering many pastoral
care issues.
Individual support for those experiencin& and the carers of those experiencin&
long term illness or disability by linking members who seek and/or offer support
and practical help.
Other practical and spiritual support as needs may arise.
During this financial year the Charity carried out the following specific activities,
Provided the annual update and Safeguardingtrainingfor nominated Designated
Safeguarding Leads from acr055 our church network (Ortoberl.
Provided training for our 'first line, telephone support contacts (February).
Ran a 'Loneliness' awarene55 day (March).
Supported a fellowship weekend at Holland House (Aprll).
Supported the annual Sisters Day (May).
Ran a Parents and Social Networking Securlty event (June).
Led a Pralse & Fellowship event which showcased CSN activities to a wlder
audience (September).
In additlon, the Charity continued to provide safeguarding oversight to the UK
Christadelphian community, providin8 8uidance on specific cases referred to itfrom
churches, in addition to the training noted above. A revised safeguarding template
has been published and the Charity will continue to encourage safeguarding best
practice and compliance in each autonomous church where it applies. As a matter
of principle all CSN Trustees carry UK DBS clearance.
Our telephone Helpline and Prayerline saw continued activity throughout the
period. We thank our Volunteer Members who manage and share the Helpline and
Prayerline rotas, providing support for those in need. We also thank all of our
Volunteers for their valuable contribution of time, energy, expertise and feedback
without which we would not have been able to achieve so much.
CSN developed and implemented a new CSN logo and house style, which is in
process of being utilised in a new and refreshed website.

The Charity published a new booklet on Bereavement which was well received. Our
full publications range is now available via electronic download from our website,
and we are pleased to see that this is now the primary means of distribution.
During the year, the Charity made the decision not to repeat in 2024.
longstanding January 'Beating the Blues, event nor the Sh311owford weekends,
reflecting changes in demand and interest.
Achievements and performance
During the period to 30 September 2023, the Trustees have continued to comply
with the Objects of the Charity. The Trustees regularly give tlme to the strategic
direction of the Charity, the risks we face, and to review the policies and processes
used to deliver our mission in meeting the chan8in8 needs of our communlty.
Appropriate trainlng and supervision is in place for those who support the natlonal
telephone Helpline and Prayerline. Phishing awareness training was provided as a
part of thls. and a review. revision and simplification of our mailing database was
completed.
The constitution of CSN, as a Charitsble Incorporated Organisation 'CIO' embraces
a significant membership. This includes both those who currently contribute to our
work and past contributors, each of whom the current Trustees of the Charity have
responsibility to.
Trustees are now appointed for four-year terms. and are Ilmited to three
consecutive terms, with up to one quarter of the trustees retiring annually. This is
in line with Charity Commission best practice and balances both continuity of
experlence. and refreshment wlth new skllls and perspectlves. It also ensures
greater transparency and accountability in the governance of the Charity going
forward.
Safeguarding is proving to be a key and core component of CSN'S work for the
Christadelphian community. To support our existing Safeguarding Trustee and to
provide more continuty in tFYls area of service, CSN has set up a Safeguarding Sub-
Committee which has six Members each providing support in terms of, policy,

educatlon, and operatlonal experlence. Thls Sub-committee now develops sultable
DSL tralnlng, pollcy revlew and provldes addltlonal expertlse to the Trustees. One
member of thlsteam, James Hallworth has now been appolnted to the Management
Commlttee of CSN to Increase our focus upon th15 518nfflcant area of rlsk.
Under the new constltutlon, any Indlvldual baptlsed Into the Chrlstadelphlan
communlty and supportlng the objects and values of the Charlty may become
Member of the Charlty, on acceptance by the Trustees of a membershlp fonn
detallln8 thelr relevant skllls and experlence. Detalls of how to become a Member
have been posted on the Charltvs webslte.
Flnanclal Revlew
In the year ended 30 September 2023 the Charlty recelved Income of £20,580 and
Incurred expendlture of £20,526 resultln8 In a small surplus for the year.
On l October 2022, the Charlty was 8lfted net assets of £57,182 from Its
predecessor Charlty,
As at 30September 2023the Charlty held net assets of £57,236 represented by bank
balance5.

Accountlng Policles
Basls of Accountlng
Income
Voluntary income and donations are accounted for as received by the Charity. Tax
reclaims on donations a￿ included in the period in which they are recovered.
Expendlture
Expenditure ts accounted for on an accrual's basis.
Accumuloted Funds
The Charit￿5 reserves constitute unrestricted funds that are expendable at the
discretion of the trustees in the furtherance of the objerts of the Charity. Such fvnds
may be held to finance both worklng capltal and capital Investment.
It is the policy of the Charity to maintain a reserve of at least one yearfs net
expendlture with a target of two yearfs net expenditure. Net expenditure is defined
as total expenditure less that related to a specific item of discretionary expenditure,
e.g., fellowship weekend income. At 30 September 2023, accumulated unrestricted
funds were the equlvalent of 2.8 tlmes total expenditure and 4.1 times net
expenditure.
All expenditure on equlpment costin8 less than £500 is written off in the year of
purchase.
