The Trustees work closelywith the management committee. In the summer. Hazel
Denman stepp8d down from the committee, on which she had been responsiblé
for our publicty. This ha$ included sending a twice-y88rly mailln8 to ralse
awareness of Conflde's work. We are so grateful for the care that Hazel has givèn
to this key task.
Report from the Chair
2025 was an 8ncouragingyearforConfide asw8 celebrated the 4￿ 8nnlvers8ry
ofthe establishment of Confide Counselllng by members of the Chichester and
Bognor Methodist circuit in 1985.
Hazel Is a membeT of Bognor Methodist Church and has r8present8d the
Methodist Church at Confide, so m8int8ining an important link with our M8thodlst
roots.we shall mi88 herat our meetings but are verypleased thet she wlll continué
as one of our most experienced Counsellors.
It is good that, In this anniversary year, we can report a year of growth: 21
counsellors offerlng a total of 1492 counselling sesslons. Wé can also report
th8t more ¢lients and sever81 successful Erant applications have provided us
with v￿lcOme financi81 growth and stabillty. It has been 8 good year.
Durlng 2025. th8 Trust885 met three tlmes. At each meetln& we recelve reports,
includlng the receptlonist's report on the number of enquirlas. our work wlth
Stonepillow, 8nd fin8nc8 8nd funding. Our clinical Supervlsion group, Mary
Ashwin, Margaret Hambrook, Tineke Zwinkels and Sally Knight meet monthly to
overseè OUT work with clients. They also regularly report to the Trustees. We
considerthatthis is workingwell.
Our vislon remains that of our tounders to provide .8 saThlce for the rèlief of
people in Westsussex who experienceh8rdshlp ordistress byr88son ofmental
orphyslcal ill hg8lth orbyreason of soclal oreconomic clrcumst8nces'.
In 2025, we have continued to put that Vision Into practice by provlding
ouns811ing service for people who feel that they might struggle financially to
access counselling and by off8rlng supervised tralnlng placements for student
counsellors. We consider th8t we are complying wlth our duty und8r Section 4
of the 2006 Actto hav8 due regard to the guidance on publlc benefit.
One Issue that has continued to concern the Trustees Is payment for
adminlstr8tive work, and e8pe¢i8lly for the Service Administrator. Many charltles
sh8rè ¢oncerns 8bout tha exp8Ct8tion of ever-increaslng administration to be
undertaken voluntarlly. The Trustees have now agreed that from 1 January 2026,
we should pay the Service Administrator for 5 hours per week for 8dministratlV8
work.
To mark our 40 8nnivers8ry, we were very pleased that Jess Brown-Fuller. the
MPfor Chichester. was able to Soln us to speak at ourAnnual Meating In June. It
W8s very encour88ingto sense her interest and support for our work.
The Treasurer's role wlll remaln a voluntary post. This paid appotntment has
flnancial Impll¢ations and wlll n88d the establlshment of a subgroup with speciflc
responsibiltyforfundrgising. We 8re verygratefulfor severalgrants thatwe have
recelved recently. but maklng 8rant applicatlons Is an art and very time-
consuming.
In September. we joined with the congregation at St Paul's Church for a servl¢e
of thanksgfving. It was an Insplring occasion. end we are very grateful for the
support that we received from the ¢on8re8ation at St Paul's and the rector,
Canon Paul t>oick.
We 81so need to review the whole area of our publlclty and appolnt Someone to
take on responslbilityfor thls essential task.
At present, we have 6 Trustees and are hoping to appolnt ong further trustee
before our Annual Meeting. Margaret Hambrook. who was one of our
foundation Trustees, completed her 4-year term 8t the end of 2025 and has
been reappointed.
The Trustees remaln very grateful to Tineke Zwinkets foT 811 she does. In addttion
to her own work as a counsellor and supervisor. as Service Administrator, sh8
ensures Confide runs smoothly wtth her great 8ttention to detail.

During 2025, this has included continuing work on putting tO88ther the
H8ndbook. vthlch is proving to be an invaluable resource for Trustees and
counsellors, 88 it brings togethar our policy documents and procedures.

At present, we 8r8 pleased to report that we have a lull complement of
committed counsellors for which we are very grateful. They include a number
of very experionced counsellors who have been with us for m8nyyear$, asweu
as student counsellors who are on placement with us as part of their trainin&
We are only sorrythat most of them need to mova on once they have qualified.
as they need a paid post. We require 811 our counsellors to attend fortnightly
supèrvislon sessions. We consider this to be a very important aspect of our
V￿rk and arevery concerned thatstudent counsellors should be V•BII prep8red
for tholr future work.

health nurses. fimeto Talk. frlends, or by picking up a leaflet.
Ofthe 89 clients irwlted to an Intake assessment, 57 completed the
assessment and continued V￿th counselling. 32 people declined.
Atthe end of 2025. we had 15 clients 8W8iting allocation to a counsellor.

4 October- le(J by David Pierce-Myers- following on from the
previous training, we looked at the 12-step programme in combination
with counselling. The first event was attended by a Stonepillow staff
member, who contribute(J valuable insights and information to the
training.
Stonepillow Report
24 Stonepillow clients were supported with counselling in 2025. which is the
same number aswere 5UPPOrted in 2024. Counsellors offered 468 client
sessions. an increase of 17% from 2024. Of these 468 sessions offered. 381
181%) were attended, 55112%) were cancelled, and 3217%) were not
attended with no notice given. Thesefigures show more sessions attended
and fewer cancellations than in 2024.
Counsellors continue to see their clients at St Paul's Church and at Bognor
Friends Meeting House. wherewe now hirethe room more often. enabling us
to work with more clients from Bognor Regis and the Ioc81 area.
32 referrals for clients supported by Stonepillow were received. 0 20%
reduction trom 2024. Once again. most referrals were for male clients
supported in the Bognor area, either in the Recovery Servi¢e. a hostel, or
supported shared living accommodation.
Stonepillow clients are seen at either the Glassworks in Chichester orThe
Hostel in Bognor Regis. We would like to thank the oiganisations for providing
the facilities.
Kate. Ali. Jackie. Nicola. Miriam and Martin were the counsellors working with
Stonepillow clients at the end of the year, and Alice is a Tecently recruited
experienced student who will begin working with Stonepillow clients after her
forthcoming induction.

whlch provldes the organlsation overvlew, policies, procedures. and documents.
This will be revlewed annually and presented to the Trustees at the first m88tinE
of the calendar year.

with Colleen to egtablish 8 moro efflclent process. We have been invlted to
the wider Stonepillow Managers, meetings to discuss the support that
Confide offers. and we are waitingfor thls to be arranged.

& Management meetings.
One Issuethat came up in 2025 i8the importance of m8int8inln8
confidantialty within sessions, as Stoneplllow cllonts may know. or even

counselling. As y￿{{ as addressingthe speclflc issue. we discussed thls
ethical challenge wlthin the group supervision meetlngs, and it also formed
part of the 8g8nda forthe Stonepillow meetln8.
Ailtr8inee counsellors have rec8iv8d their Confide contracts. and all DBS checks
are upto date. For D8Scheck purpo$es,trainee counsellor8are no tonger
considered volunteers. The position is deemed intended to lead to 8 paid
PO8ltion and to enhance their qualifications. Charges to obtaln DBS detai18 for
Confide are now £60.75 l+VAf) for students and £11.25 l+VATI forvolunteers.
Allson Green has contlnuèd to meet monthly vAth Rach81 Hole during 20251
2026. In these sessions, we discuss IndSvldual cllnical issues and reflect on
the pressures within Stoneplliow as 8 ch8rity. Rachel has been working in a
role wlth responslbllities for c88e management, team m8n8gement, and
training delivery.

Pathflnder, and as 8 result. herteam, which was funded through the

left, and she is in discussion with management about the nature of herjob.

The Designated Fund at the end of 2025 stands at £9030.63. The fund, with
regular contributions from St John's Trust. supports clients who are unable to
payfor sessions and covers unpaid sessions for various reasons. In 2025. 80
sessions Y￿re pald through the Designated fund. The fund has also covered
webslte maintenanc8 costs.

The increase In the number of counsellors has led to hi8her room-hire
expenses. Additionally, the raised volume ot referrals contributes to higher
intske costs.

anonymous for supporting Confide CounsellinE Service
Confide seeks to provide a counselling seNice for the relief of people
in West Sussex who experience hardship or distress by reason of
mental or physical ill-health or by reason of social or economic
circumstances.

Confide was formed in 1985, a service sponsored by Methodist
Churches in Chichester and Bognor Regis. As such. its philosophy
and work emanate from this Christian base.
Confide continues to be supported by various other Christian
Churches in Chichester and Bognor Regis and their members.

Meeting House in Bognor Regis. We are grateful forthe hospitality we

**I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of Confide Counselling (West Sussex) (“the charity”) for the year ended 31 December 2025.** 

## **Responsibilities and basis of report** 

As the charity trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”). 

I report in respect of my examination of the charity’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the Act. In carrying out my examination I have followed the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act. 

The accounts have been prepared on a receipts and payments basis. 

## **Independent examiner’s statement** 

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect: 

1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the Act; or 

2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or 

3. the accounts do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair’ view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination. 

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
