## **A Note from our Chair, Josh Railton** 

I’ll begin where all good stories do, at the beginning. 

In March 2021 we agreed that we should become a charity – we succeeded in that. 

In November, we returned to play our first bit of live theatre for almost two years with a murder mystery – it sold out in under 24 hours. 

In January, after months of hard work and battling through COVID, we staged our most successful panto to date – we sold out all four performances and over doubled our usual dance school audience figures to end up playing to over 850 people and, later, we would find out that Cinderella would be nominated for Best Pantomime in the region. 

Continuing to April, we have another successful murder mystery – this one setting the record for donations at over £1100 on the night. 

Finally for our productions, we come to June with Bouncers and Shakers – this production allowed us to welcome a series of new members and we got some amazing, if not, the best, reviews of any show we’ve put on in memory. 

That’s four fantastic shows so far with four more in the works to round out our 90th anniversary season – everyone involved with BATS for the last year should be, quite rightly, immensely proud of themselves as I am of each of you.

## **The Aims & Objectives of Bishop Auckland Theatre Society** 

**Our aim continues to be** : For the public appreciation of the arts, in particular the art of community-based theatre by providing training in theatrical skills and staging a variety of theatrical works in and around Bishop Auckland. 

## **Achieving Our Aims in 2021/22** 

In this reporting period, we’re in the middle of our 90[th] anniversary season in which we are producing a record number of performances for our local community including; 

- _Bouncers & Shakers_ – directed by Kayleigh and Charley – played to around 150 people. 

- Two _murder mysteries_ written and directed by Charley that played to around 180 people in total, and of course, 

- _Cinderella_ – written and directed by Josh – which has been nominated for Best Pantomime at the regional NODA awards and played to around 850 people. 

We’ve also maintained our level of members and welcomed a number of new members to have a total of 37 at years end.
