## Report of Trustees 2024

The Annual Report of the Trustees of the Tristan da Cunha Association, a Registered UK Charity Number 1197018 for the year ended 31[st] December 2024. The charity has continued to operate in contact with the government on the island of Tristan da Cunha in the South Atlantic Ocean for the public benefit on the islands of Tristan da Cunha following its objects:

1. The advancement of education and training of resident Tristan da Cunha islanders by the provision of grants,

bursaries and support to enable them to study including participating in study outside the islands;

2. Advancing the education of the public in Tristan da Cunha culture, traditions and economy and of the history,

geography and wildlife of the islands;

3. The preservation and protection of life and property by providing grant funding to assist the community to

prepare for and recover from natural or other disasters.

Whereas no grants were paid during 2024, bids had been received from the island. These included:

- A grant for equipment for extending an archive project begun just before the Covid epidemic. This grant was agreed in principle depending on detailed response to questions raised by the trustees.

- A grant for equipment for the creche on the island. Again, this had been agreed in principle depending on details which were awaited.

- A grant for accommodation in Cape Town for a group which had been travelling for the Young Ocean Champions which was rejected as the trustees felt it was not covered by our objects.

During the year, members of the Association received two Newsletters containing information and news.

A very successful Association Annual Gathering was held in March 2024 at the Holiday Inn, Southampton. This was attended by 70 members who enjoyed being together, a successful AGM and an entertaining talk from a vet who had worked on Tristan da Cunha at the end of the 1970s, Joe Hollins.

The Trustees met on two occasions during 2024, once at the Holiday Inn during the Annual Gathering in March and then in July to discuss the bids which had been received from the island, the ongoing business of the Association and the place for the Annual Gathering 2025 as the Holiday Inn would not be available due to refurbishments.
