## **Eynsham Museum and Heritage Centre Trustees Report to the Charities Commission for 16 May 2023 to 15 May 2024** 

## **charities objectives. The trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission.** 

Our main activity was the setting up and running of our first major exhibition on ‘Eynsham’s Lost Railway’ which ran from August to November 2023 and March to May 2024 in the upstairs room. We opened at weekends and Bank Holidays 11 – 4. The exhibition consisted of: a working model of Eynsham Railway Station and its environs as they were in 1958; a rolling video of the last passenger train from Eynsham to Fairford and back in June of 1962; a display 


of the history of the railway from 1861 to its closure and final destruction after 1970: artefacts from Eynsham Station donated or loaned by local residents and, for younger visitors, a jigsaw of the model railway. For those unable to cope with stairs we provided an i-pad, with a rolling video of the exhibition, downstairs. 

A photographic exhibition was set up in the downstairs room, ‘Eynsham Then and Now’ - old pictures and their modern equivalents. It stimulated a lot of interest.

## **Additional details of objectives and activities.** 

## **Outreach included** : 

- Talks to: Eynsham’s older people’s group (The Monday Club) 27 and Witney Probus x 2 

- Liaison with the local primary school and opening the museum during the week for year 5 to view the exhibition 

## **Eynsham Primary School visit the Museum – December 2023** 


- Broadcast on BBC Radio Oxford 13 August 2023 about the new museum 

- Articles in ‘Eynsham News’ and the ‘Eynsham Record’ 

- Annual Parish Council public presentation March 2024 

- Walks around ‘Historic Eynsham.’ Production and sales of a book to accompany talks 

## **Policies agreed and updated on:**

- Internal Charity Financial Controls & Procedures, 

- Trustee Expenses. 


The website and social media accounts were kept up to date and managed by local volunteers. 

25 volunteers for stewarding. Rota organised to cover opening hours. 



‘Friends’ of the museum established and recruiting members. 

Museum quality UV filters and blinds fitted. 

Planning and discussions with museum designers: Arty Bon Bon and Inspiring Heritage 

Repair of the Heritage ‘cairn’ in Abbey Street with the aid of a grant from our County Councillor. 

## **Summary of main Achievements of the charity for the period.** 

‘Eynsham’s Lost Railway’ exhibition was a major success, over 2,500 visitors, not just from Eynsham but further afield. Very positive evaluations and donations and sales of books, cards and prints amounted to more than £1000 

Successfully managing the building leased from the parish council and involving other community groups in the museum and in the use of the downstairs room by the Country Market and art exhibitions. We remain financially viable.

Acquisitions Catalogue extended with more donations and bequests. 

Planning our second exhibition on ‘Rural Eynsham’ opening in the summer of 2024.
