This event includes<br>the presentation of The Sarah Hughes<br>Trust Prize, an award set up to recognise<br>exceptional journalism that exposes false<br>or misleading information, so-called fake<br>news, in health or medicine. In addition, we<br>provide funding to support the<br>accommodation and needs costs of people<br>from low-income backgrounds to undertake<br>journalism internships in London.|

## **Achievements and Performance**

In<br>the summer we supported 3 aspiring<br>journalists through the Guardian and<br>Observer Newspaper Positive Action work<br>placement scheme.<br>In November the trust awarded its annual<br>journalism prize to Jacklin Kwan for her<br>article in the British Medical Journal<br>exposing the practices of some biobanks in<br>deceiving expectant parents about the<br>value of banking their children’s umbilical<br>cord blood by using misleading statements<br>to market the procedure.<br>And then finally in December we held our<br>annual lecture and we were extremely<br>fortunate to have Lady Hale, Baroness of<br>Richmond, as our main speaker. Her<br>lecture, "_Press freedom and personal_<br>_privacy – a clash of rights_?” was full of<br>wonderful insights across her career and<br>enjoyed by many on and offline attendees.|
