Para 1.20 | 2023 was a successful year for the Trust. We held the annual lecture took place on in December of that year, with the lecture given by Professor Nicholas Roe. He spoke passionately about John Keats (Romantic Memoirs and Romantic Remains). The event was attended by over 100 people in person and many more online. The Sarah Hughes Trust prize, an annual prize which recognises exceptional journalism that exposes false or misleading information – so-called ‘fake news’ – in health or medicine, was awarded to Helen Puttick, a specialist reporter for The Times in Scotland. Helen’s successful submission, published in the Scottish edition of The Times, ran across three articles and challenged the Scottish government's claims on NHS waiting times. Finally, the Trust continued to work with the Guardian and Observer Newspaper on their Positive Action work placement scheme, supporting 2 aspiring journalists with their accommodation during their internship. |
