We provide financial support for aspiring and talented journalists and hold an annual lecture in Sarah Hughes's name at the History of Medicine Society at the Royal Society of Medicine. This event includes the presentation of The Sarah Hughes Trust Prize, an award set up to recognise exceptional journalism that exposes false or misleading information, so-called fake news, in health or medicine. In addition, we provide funding to support the accommodation and needs costs of people from low-income backgrounds to undertake journalism internships in London. |

Para 1.20 | This year was the Trust’s first full year, and we achieved a great deal. The second annual lecture took place on 2 December 2022. The lecture was given by Professor Dame Marina Warner and was attended by over 100 people in person and many more online. The Sarah Hughes Trust prize was shared by two journalists for their article “Ivermectin: How false science created a Covid 'miracle' drug” (Ivermectin: How false science created a Covid'miracle'drug- BBC News) Finally, the Trust worked with the Guardian and Observer Newspaper on their Positive Action work placement scheme, supporting 3 aspiring journalists with their accommodation during their internship. |

| Other | When the work that led to the Trust was first established, funds were raised by Harriet Tyce (later to the Trust’s first Chair) and a lecture was held (December 2021). The funds raised were held by Ms Tyce and she used them to pay for the costs of the first lecture and associated activities. On the constitution of the Trust and the setting up of its bank account, as well as the organisation of the second lecture (December 2022), all necessary steps were taken to account for the money spent and to transfer the balance of the funds to the Trust. |

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity (“the Trust”) for the accounting period ended 31 December 2022.
As the charity's trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in Responsibilities and basis of accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”). report
I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

Independent examiner's statement
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect:

the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; or
-
the accounts did not accord with the accounting records; or
-
the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair’ view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
