## **Chair Annual Report** _**Natasha Falkner**_

Sngrays helped to run the first weekend and I was extremely proud to be part of it. Our volunteers worked extremely hard over the two days, and we had fantasc feedback from clubs and officials. Sngrays also provided volunteers and officials for the sessions at the Link Centre and again we received praise, so I’d like to thank everyone who came forward to help the club.

## **Summer Open Meet and Club Champs**

In June we sought to build upon the success of the 2022 open meet at Five Rivers organised by the previous commitee. The event proved to be a huge success and entries were filled in record me meaning we had to unfortunately turn some clubs away. Our tuck shop proved so popular that we ran out of stock by the end of the first day and had to visit the cash-and-carry to restock! We also invited Jenny from Fastlegs to set up a stall. This proved popular as she was able to offer good advice and has expressed an interest in coming back next year.

officials, marshals, ming desk operators, runners, etc all covered by parents. It was lovely to see some new faces. Thank you all.

Aer the summer break we got ready for the Club Champs. All three sessions ran smoothly, again with posive feedback from officials and from Durrington and Tidworth. The club champs are a great opportunity for many of our younger squads’ swimmers to get their first taste of racing and to clock up qualifying mes for Counes.

## **Successes at Counes, Regional and Naonals**

The Head Coach will report in more detail, but we’d like to send massive congratulaons to all our swimmers. The hard work and determinaon by swimmers and coaches produced fantasc results with Oscar, Theo and Iola medalling at the Naonals at Ponds Forge in August.

## **Coaching Team**

Former head coach Chris White le the club unexpectantly in September and has now moved to Winchester Penguins where we wish him all the best. This did create quite a staff shortage, but exisng staff and parents rallied.

Special thanks go to Tim Sadler who stepped up to role of Acng Head Coach. Tim’s hard work and dedicaon steadied the ship and we have been pleased to run our sessions with only a minimal number of cancellaons.

run the land training programme.

We were pleased to recently announce the new coaching team which will headed by Tim, and we also welcome Emma Waller who is joining us in January. Abbie Simmonds and James Mansfield are working as Assistant Coaches and will connue to work towards their Level 2 qualificaons.

## **Tim Sadler – Head Coach**

Tim will be taking the reigns as Head Coach. He’s been working in the role since September in an acting capacity and has earned the respect of parents and swimmers alike with his encouraging and helpful poolside manner. Tim has been getting great results and we’re looking forward with working with him to take the club forwards.

## **Emma Waller – Coach**

Emma is a qualified swim teacher, teacher tutor, coach and soft tissue rehab specialist. As a parent of a regional level swimmer, she understands swimming and swimmers. Originally from Salisbury, we’re really looking forward to welcoming Emma to the Club where she will coach squads and Masters.

## **James Mansfield – Assistant Coach**

James is a squad swimmer and has worked as volunteer swim teacher for some time before fully qualifying. He now works as a swim teacher and assistant coach and is looking forward to studying and training and hopes to gain his Level 2 qualification in 2024.

## **Abbie Simmonds- Assistant Coach**

Also, a squad swimmer, Abbie has volunteered for Stingrays for some time and now works as a qualified swim teacher and assistant coach. She is also keen to progress and is working towards her Level 2 coaching qualification this year.

## **Treasurer Annual Report**

## _**Chris Backhouse**_

We would like to begin by thanking Nic Cleary who despite stepping down from the role as treasurer last AGM has been effectively performing the role again this year. We would also like to thank Nick Withers-Jones from Fawcetts for his continued support in preparing out accounts in the formats required for HMRC.

This last financial year appears to have been a good one for the club. We have again seen a significant growth in the Swim School. We are now seeing and income of £89,733 from this part of the club, an increase of over £20,000 from last year. We raised £500 in donations for the period.

## **Income and Expenditure**

Our Income was £235,368 and our total expenditure was £222,628. This gives a net core profit for the year of £12,740 in the final audited accounts.

Coaching and teaching costs are largely similar to last year but again we have had increases to the hourly rates of pool hire at Five Rivers.

Training costs were £2,367 this financial year as we looked to keep investing in our Swim school teachers and coaches.

The graph below shows the historical income vs expenditure for the last 5 years for comparison.

## **Reserve Position and Budgets**

It has been the goal to retain a reserve of around 3-4 months running costs which is around £45,000. At the end of the year our reserve was £69,117.

## **Membership Annual Report**

## _**Greg Fergusson**_

The overall swim England membership numbers are as follows:

115 Club Compete 34 Club Train 45 club support

The ongoing health of the club is good with:

- Approximately 5 new enquiries for club swimming per month including masters.

- Trials are being held for new members on a monthly basis.

- There have been 10 new members graduang from swim school into the performance 3 squad since September.

- There have been 5 new swimmers into compeon squads since the start of December alone.

## **Head Coach Annual Report** _**Tim Sadler**_

Firstly, I would like to say thank you to everyone for the amazing support that you have shown over the last few months. This has been a difficult period for the club and coaching staff since the resignaon and almost immediate departure of the previous head coach and other coaching staff.

Tribbeck enough for stepping into their swimming coaching roles at short noce to ensure that there was minimal disrupon to the swimmers and the swimming sessions over this period. I must also thank Greg Fergusson and Andrew Stanford-Jason for taking over and leading the gym, land training

Having been in place as acng head coach for the past few months I cannot be more excited to take on the role of head coach and am looking forward to building a successful future for the Club and all those involved.

and progressing through their coaching qualificaons and Emma coming on board we now have a coaching structure in place to ensure a great programme is delivered to all squads.

As always, we have a very busy and compeve swimming calendar, beginning the year with the Wiltshire County Championships in January and ending with the Winter Short Course Naonals in December. We have had some truly fantasc results in these compeons but equally as important for me is the success we have had outside the winning of medals. We are seeing our swimmers improving their technique, developing a great work ethic, growing in self-confidence, and building up their resilience which will also help them outside the pool environment.

Reports for all our events/meets can be found on the Website/Facebook pages but some highlights are as follows.

## **Wiltshire County Championships**

Leisure Centre, Marlborough College, and the Link Centre in Swindon. The Club made an excellent showing at the 2023 Championships. 54 of swimmers entered 385 races and achieved 236 personal best mes. In total the club won 219 medals including 43 golds, 64 silvers and 54 bronzes. There were another 58 medals for 4th to 7th County places.

## **South West Summer Regionals**

The South West Summer regionals take place over three weekends in April/May. The age group compeon is held at Millfield and Bristol and the Youth compeon at Plymouth. We had seventeen swimmers compeng in these championships, some compeng at regional level for the first me. There were lots of fantasc swims over the three weekends including many personal best mes. We had swimmers making age group finals and with some excellent swims bringing home lots of medals.

## **Brish Summer Naonals**

400FC, 800FC. Oscar swam fantascally throughout the week, swimming lots of PB’s, securing top ten finishes and making the final of the 400m FC. Simply brilliant!

## **English Summer Naonals**

Brish Championships. We had three swimmers at the event all swimming a number of PB’s. Theo Parker-Minty swam in the 200m Fly. Iola Bellinger swam the 50/100/200 BR and Oscar Bellinger the 100 Fly, 200IM, 1500m FC, 50 Fly, 100FC, 50FC.

With a fantasc swim Iola won the 100m Breaststroke and is now 12/13y English Naonal Champion. She also won Silver in 50BR and bronze in the 200BR.

Theo with an equally fantasc swim won the 200m Fly and is now the 15y English Naonal Champion.

the 1500m FC.

To achieve seven medals at Naonals and have 2 English Naonal Champions is an amazing achievement and credit to all the hard work put in by these swimmers and former head coach Chris.

## **Naonal Team County Championships**

Iola was also selected as part of the team but could not swim due to regional netball commitments.

## **South West Winter Regionals**

Georgie, Theo, Oscar, and Iola took part in the South West Winter Regional Championships at Millfield in November. This event included Great Britain Olympians James Guy and Mat Richards. There were some great swims by all those who took part including several medals and lots of best mes.

## **Swim England Winter Short Course Naonals**

to other commitments were not able to parcipate in the event this year.

## **Masters**

represenng the Club who qualified for 12 events. Alex Richards swam in five events including the

1500m FC. Sharon Allen swam in all 3 Breaststroke events winning 2 bronze medals and securing gold in the 50 Breaststroke. Chris Jessop swam in four events winning a bronze, 2 silver and a gold medal in the 200m Backstroke. To have 2 English Naonal Masters Champions is a great achievement.

selected to represent Wiltshire who finished third overall. Well done to Carol Vaughan, Wade Graham, Sharon Allen, and Rebecca Seymour.

In addion to all these compeons, we held the Salisbury Sngrays open meet in June which was a great success and we have just finished hosng our combined club championships with Durrington and Tidworth. It was great to see so many fast swims and lots of medals being won.

We have also had a number of our swimmers selected to atend various Swim England Selecon programmes. This a great achievement and will be a great learning experience for these swimmers.

- Wiltshire Development Camp 11-12 – Erin Applegate, Emilia Stewart, Hana Whiield, Eleanor Satchwell, Oliver Beddoes, Robert Edwards

- Swim England Naonal Youth Development (Distance) Program – Oscar

- South West Regional Development (Distance) Program – Georgie

Well done to everyone on a fantasc year for the Club. We are now looking forward to the new year, starng with Counes in January, and hope to achieve lots of success for all our swimmers in the coming season.

## **Swim School Annual Report** _**Jon Tribbeck**_

## **Overview**

The swim school has connued to go from strength to strength this year. We have added slightly more capacity and are now able to offer pre-compeve classes at both Godolphin and Five Rivers. The flow of graduang pupils to other squads has increased and swimmers are moving from precompeve classes to either the Progressive Squads or Club Squad pathways.

## **Membership**

but I can report that numbers have now improved and there has been a 19.6% year on year increase and the school is now 89% full, with 275 members.

|Tuesday|39|48|79%|
|Thursday|50|58|83%|
|**Total**|**275**|**310**|**89%**|

_**Numbers as of 17th December 2023 2 new starters and 4 taster lessons are planned for January 2024 Approximately 4 swimmers expecting to trial for squad in January Waiting lists are in operation for some classes with 4 children currently waiting for spaces**_

Approximately 62 new swimmers have been added to the swim school’s books since September. This has kept us busy especially Libby Byam and Abbie Simmonds with a strong flow of new White Rays in September. Many of the beginner swimmers have now moved up to higher classes so the main capacity now is in the White Rays classes.

would like. It is testament to the skills, loyalty and flexibility of our current teachers that the swim school has gone from strength to strength this year, despite various upheavals in the Club and the loss of the Swim School Manager last year.

We have been successful in atracng volunteers to the Swim School and at the me of wring have 25. Many approach us to fulfil the service element of their Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme which we are proud to support. Many of these volunteers choose to stay on once their service period is completed. Since September all new volunteers are encouraged to complete a Swim England CPD as part of their inducon.

Many of our young assistants reach the age of 16 in the coming months and several have already expressed an interest in training to become fully qualified Level 2 teachers. The Club has sought to encourage assistants to train by extending financial support to long term volunteers to fund their Level 1 courses.

## **Summary**

The next few months will see the swim school consolidang its membership and teaching team. A new teaching programme is being rolled out and numbers of swimmers graduang to Chub, Compeve and Progressive Squads is increasing. Feedback from staff, parents and children is posive as we seek to further improve our offering. The Swim School Manager thanks Collete Rosendale for laying the foundaons of the Swim School, as well as the support and cooperaon of the coaching team headed by Tim Sadler.

## **Educaon Annual Report**

## _**Jez Burton**_

Salisbury Sngrays has connued its ability to be able to help and encourage members to achieve a number of qualificaons this over the course of the last 12 months.

## **Swim Teachers**

congratulaons to all who qualified. Zoe Palmer completed her Swim England Coaching Assistant Course before her departure for university and I would like to wish Zoe every success in both her future coaching career and in her studies, and our volunteer assistants are soon to embark on their CPD to aid their development into teachers in the future. All of which helps develop both the club and the swimmer’s skills and understanding within the sport.

## **South West Region Young Volunteer Programme**

In the next coming year, I hope to re-establish a cohort on the South West Region Young Volunteer Programme, which I expect to start in Autumn 2024. The Programme aimed at 15 -18-year-old volunteers from clubs and open to all disciplines consists of:

- 25 hours volunteering

- 3 courses

- Timekeeping – online and praccal

- Aquac Poolside helper – F2F course

- Keeping Safe in Sport – F2F course

courses booked for the new year, the next class of teaching assistants to begin their teaching courses and working closely with the coaching team, hopefully a range of talks and workshops for both swimmers and parents to help broaden knowledge and understanding of the sport in a number of areas.

## **Summary**

Salisbury Sngrays has connued its tradion of being able to help promote its members outside of the pool to further develop their abilies and knowledge within the sport and bring the next generaon of teachers and coaches into being to support the club.

In 2023/24, we aim to be able to further build upon this success and connue our ability to aid members to gain qualificaons in both teaching and coaching environments but also look to offer further excing educaonal opportunies to build the understand of the sport in a wider context within all aspects of Salisbury Sngrays.

## **Fundraising Annual Report** _**Ale Brierly and Helen Iveson**_

2023 has been a challenging year in which to connue to raise funds for the club, not least because many potenal donors are no longer in posions where they are able to give financial support to our club, however much they would like to. Following mulple emails, phone calls and face to face visits to Salisbury City centre however, we were successful in securing raffle prizes for the summer club championships from the following Salisbury local business:

|**Casa Fina**|**Parker Bullen Solicitors**|**Oso Boutique**|
|---|---|---|
|**Cup Bubble Tea**|**Ecco**|**Splash of Colour**|
|**Roly’s Fudge Pantry**|**Premier Fish at Home**|**HR Tribbeck and Son**|

Hot heat prizes were also provided by Sweet Tooth Salisbury in return for promoon of their business on our Facebook page.

Businesses were thanked in person, on our Facebook page and in the Meet Programme. Our other focus was raising funds for new starng blocks. Despite mulple calls to many local businesses, we were only successful in securing enough funding for one block. Further applicaons were made to naonal funding sources but to date none of these applicaons have been successful. Further funding will need to be acquired from other sources.

Ale and Helen would like to thank all the members of the club who helped with fundraising this year and are very grateful to the rest of the commitee for supporng them in these roles.

level 4 to level 1. Club officials have formed the majority of the numbers needed to host races at Five Rivers and contributed to staffing at all away open meets.

atending swimmers and the club has a constant need to train new members to share the duty.

Training is funded by Swim South West and includes an online module followed by mentored poolside experience leading to the award of Judge level 1 (J1). Typically, officials will support events that their children are compeng in, there is no expectaon for them to work just because they are trained. Please email ofcials@salisburysngrays.co.uk if you are able to help.

- You get lunch/snacks provided.

- Normally free parking.

- No spectator entry fee.

- You get a poolside view of the racing.

- Learning more about swimming.

- Avoid geng bored at open meets!

## **Communicaons**

## **Swim Club Manager**

The club uses “Swim Club Manager” (SCM) to manage all aspects of organisaon and communicaon. SCM was deemed to be the best fit for the club in 2019 but the market has changed, and this may no longer be the case. Other systems on the market may offer increased funconality, beter support and improved value for money so we are currently reviewing all available opons.

## **Social Media**

We have an acve Facebook Group and Facebook page to compliment news stories that are published on our website. The Facebook page is publicly viewable, but the Facebook group is private and intended for use only by current members of Club (Swim School, Squad and Masters)

## **Website**

Our website is an integral part of the SCM package to which we subscribe. There’s been a lot of changes to the club over the last year or so and a new version of the website is currently under development.

## **Print Media**

Press releases are submited to the Salisbury Journal and other publicaons on a regular basis.
