Th15 year, the average attendan￿ at Sunday 5erYlces (not includlng major feasts such as Ea5teTI Is 45 adulls and
14 children. New tnembers have been welcomed, and baptfsm5 4t￿ funèral servfces have been held. Thls year
theie are 79 people recorded on the electoral roll. This number has remalned pretty statlc over the past few
yeais; however, several new familTes haye lolned us thls year awbd It Is h¢wed they will be added to the electoral
roll for nexl year. 11 has been a deilght io see so many worshlppers from the local comrTwnlty at special Servi￿$,
especlally at Easter and Christmas and for servlces such as the Harvesl 5erylce, Motherlng Sunday? IAessy
Chr15tlngle Servlce. Sunday evenlng Talze, Lady Day and Wave of Prayer Servlce5 for the Mothers Unlon and a
dedlcated servlce for Open Doors. It also gave us great loy to ￿5t the Holy Trtnlly School Carol Servlce once
again. We had three 'whoLe year group, wsits frorn Bewbush Academy who all wrote lovely cards to say thank
you. The Thjmber of chlldren who enjoy attendlng church regularly 55 a Joy to behold. At all age se1￿ceS and at
other times our yovngsters take part In worshlp by belng readers,
servlng during worship. and leadlng the prayers. It 1$ a ￿al joy to see
young people Brow In cDnfidence through these role5. We are all very
proud of the group of chlldren who admlrably led the Crib Serylce.

St Alban's Church is open durfng the day for people to pray or Just slt In a quiet and sacred space. One of our
main focuse5 ha5 always been to explore ways In whlch our church bulldings can be used for groups and events
that are ot value to our local cornmunity In addltion to church serYlce5.
The church runs a Heart of WelcoTne Café whkh 15 a regtslered 'PLace of WekoTne' centre. Members of the
communlty ènjoy coming each week as It Is a warm aThl friendly weekly meeting place, also servfin4 as a place of
warmth whlle energy bTIIs are stlll so hlgh. Many Outreach3Way carers brfng theii clients alon8 to sociallse and
Age UK refer their clients a5 well. Local couKlllors, PCSO'5 and reP￿SentatIVeS from Age LIK attend regvlarly to
provlde advice and practlcal help to those whct attend.
Our Tlny Tces toddler group con¢lnue5 to attract more and more people from the whole cornmunlly and has
proved to be a very needed and welcome well￿1n4 proviston, Weekly attendance Is around 20+ families.
Refreshments and craft actlvfjtles are provided each week for the thildren and thelr adu115. Christma5 and Easter
books are glfted io the chlldren each year.
The Mother's Unlon make5 good use of the church and hall for meetlng5 and actlvitie5. AnTh)ng other evènts and
activltle5, each year they prepare the Mothedng Sunday posies for dlstrlbutlon. makè Christmas 'Shlne a Llght,
stars for the very young, pack socks for Brook House Immlgration Removal cent￿ detalnee5 and collect food
doThatlohS for Famlly Supptsrt Work. They a150 make use of the chvrch and hall for worship, meetlng5 and oth
actiwtie5.
Another hl8hllght ol the year was our Patronal brlng and share 'intematlonal' lunch and BBQ The array of food
donated to the feast for everywe's enjoyment paid a wonderful testlmony w lh¢ Increa51ng diverslty of our
congregatlon members. It was enjoyed 50 rnuch that we de¢ld¢d to do It all agaln for a Harvest Lunchl
Oiher events such as the annua( Cream Tea afternoon, Chtistma5 Falr Tree Festival, are a source of loy for
the whole communlty. We heid three rntJ51cal fijndraising events whlch were all thoroughly enjoyed by the
comrnunily. The wonderful mu51clans for all th￿e events generously donated their time and expertlse to bring
Joy to the communlty as well as to hèlp the church raise funds. The wanderful cake5 and refreshments offered al
each event were It)vlngly baked by our fundralsing te4m.
There are rnany other group5 who use the church and hau, Including the regulars, the AA group, Sllmmlng World,
and annual NHS Covid vacclnatlon clinlc5.

The Barn Church Bewbush Is ho longer used for regular Anglfcan servlce5 but a5 a resource centre for the parish
and as a communlty cent￿. The building 75 Used by regular gro¢Jps who provlde servlces that ￿nefit t
communityi The Barn p￿ SclK)ol. Desire io Dance, and Ellm Pentecostal Church. a5 well as being used for one
off events.

Flve funerals, six bapt15ms and one bufial of ashes were taken this year. Pastoral care is always pr¢wlded after
the funeral from the clergy. The vicar, pastoral care team and general fellowship aMr￿gSt the church
cornmunlty contlnue to provide pastoral care through home Comm￿}10n5, regular pM)ne calls aRd vislts Ir¢cluding
gI￿n4 practltal hèlp when needed. A weekly emalled newsletter (also published on Facebook and hard coples
delivered to those wItho￿t Internet actrssl, food dellveTie5 to those In need, and fellowshlp evènts have all
ensured that our pastoral care is extended to everyone we can possibly reach, whether they are churthgoers or
not.
Provlslon of tan8lble support to the poor and needy
Helplng those In need 15 a demonstration of our falth. The parssh has wpported the Family Support Work charlty
throughout the year with regular food (k>nations, half of wr Harvest donatlons and the annual Toy Servlce
(which 15 the annual donation of toys and toiletrfes for chlldren and their carers through Famlly support Workl.
In addltlon. the 5t Alban's branch of the Mothers Unlon has also donated weekly food collections to Family
Support WcKk. F￿d collectlons are also collected and dellvered regularly to the Free Shop Cr&wlÈy. Each year,
the vicar vi5it5 three local pre"5chools to talk to the children who then combine their harvest offerings wlth
those collected by Ihe church. We do ensure that the reclpients of the donatlons kn4)w that the pie.schools
donatè as well. The huge arnount of donallons Is blessed at the Harvest Servlce and Ihen shared between FSW
and The Free Shop Crawley.

The par15h support5 LlTrk to Hope by sending ChTlStmas Shoeboxes fllled wlth goodles and knitted iterns for
projects In Romanla, Bulgarla and Ukraine. Regular collection boxes are held by t￿etnbers of the congresation to
doAate to the Children's Society. We aLso wpport Open Fkjuse, and the YMCA hub which supports young people
as they move Into adulthood through thelr 'LoYe in a P4)x' Christmas campalgn and we have church members WIM)
help with cooklng a weekly meal for the young people.

In 2023 two more of our younger cmldren were admfjtted to Holy Communion on Easter Day after completlng a
Flrst Holy Communlon Course, Six baptism5 took place during the year. Baptism preparatlon session5 are held
wlth parents and Godparents before baptlsm. We hold our Lent Course durin8 Lent and hold a weekly blble study
grow). Junlor Church promdes excellent teaching for our young people and 15 very much enjoyed by the growlng
numbers of children loften up to 20 chlldrenl. It Is always a dellght tg hear from the youngsters what they have
learnt during the mDrnlng. SchoDI wslt5 to the church have begun agaln after the pandemlc and in additlon to
school vislt5, the vicar v5sits three local pre-schools at Harvest, Chiistmas and Easter. The annual Good Frlday
Ch7ldren's Workshop is enjoyed by local chlldren145 attendees) as was ihe M¢ssy Christingle event160
attendees). The school ￿SIts and the 6¢h Crawley beaver Ylslts all focus on teachlng the Chrlstlan faith atKI are
very much appre¢Sated.

Th• Future
Last year we reported that we We￿ geltlng closer to ralslng thè fund5 for Installing a n¢w heating system in St
Albhn'5. We are delighted that thls wa5 completed in March 2023. Thls has enabled many more church and
communlty groups to make use of the church. This will enhance the Ilv¢s and wellbelng of so many In our church
and communfty and will ftjrther combat the grovring problem of lonellness within so¢lety.
St Aiban's Is currently fundraising for varlous desperately nèèded trnprovements to the church bullding 50 that
more misslon, outreach and comTN¢nity woril can be facililated. Alihough thè fundralsing 15 movlng slowly, we
afe delighted we recelvÈd a small granl of £2,CQO in 2022 from htt :Ilwww.benefacttrust.co.ukl towards the
preparatloTr cost5 for the bulldlng project.
The PCC'S alm 1$ to create a new accesslble enirance, Install tolLets, the new heatinE 5yStem, a refreshment
area, and repalr the tower. Thls work ￿1[ beneflt both the church and the local communlty by providlnE an
accessible worship space as well as a usable space for cotnmunlty Use. As we rKoYer from the economic and
SDclal effects of Covld 19 there 15 even greater need for our buildin45 to be used for and by the community to
prwde the spldtuall physlcal and meAtal health and wellbelng of people In our neIghbouTh¢￿$ and beyond.
The Bulldlng5 Dèvelopment Group continues to meet and15 worldng on fundln8 appllcatlons. The building work Is
more pressing than ever now that we have more church actlwtles In the plpellne and nwre communlty group5
needin8 space for thelr aclivities.

The sumrnary of flnanclal actfvities shows an Sncrease in recelpts whlch Is attrlbutable to hlgher rental recelpts.
Thls Is d￿Ven by a mlx of Mgher rents (to cover the hlgher utllity bTILs of the p￿mIses) and greater utlllsatlon.
The summary of flnandal actlyities also shows a decrease In expenditurè as a result of re8Tettably cutting our
payment to the Dlocese. Thts was done in the 2022 budget when inflatlon was rampant and the economlc
forecast looked far from certaln. 2023 saw the parlsh out perform Its budget, rÈs*iltins In a surplu5 and a5 a
re5uIL will look to pay an Increased amount to the Diocese in 2024.
Why we hold 5t¥me monty in reserve
It is the PCC'S pollcy that due to the age and conditlL¥t of the bullding5. it should work toward5, and then
maintain, a balance on the generdl unrestrTCted funds lexcludlng PTopeTtyl which equates to approximately
three months ol unrestrfcted payments as contingency against unforeseen 51tuatiot15. The closing balance on
unrestrlcted fund5 at the end of 2023 was É32k (2022.. £19kl vthich achleyed this.
Ri$k Manosement
The tru5tee5 have assessed the major risks to whlch the charity15 exposed, an¢J are 5atT5fied that systems are In
Pla￿ to mltlgate exposure to the major risks. The PCC takes a mlnlmal risk appToach to operations. PCC
meetlngs are held every 2-3 months to dlsCU55 r15ks Ilncludlng upcoming events) and put in place 5n5urance. Wlth
no fixed assets or debtors, the rlsk of Impalrment Is rnlnlmal. Cash handllng remak)s a rlsk, wlth se8reBatlon of
dutles Eaklng place througlKJut the parish where possible. There ts a Safeguarding Officer In place In order to
ensure that we ca# manage vulnerable people appropriately.

safeguarding arrangements on the front page of the parlsh's webslte and ITh the porch notke board. The par15h

The Parochial Church Council IPCCI is registered wlth HMRC and became a regIste￿d charity with the Charity
Comm15sion Sn 2021. Its gDvernln8 document is the Parochlal Church Cotsnclls (Powersl Measure 1956. In 2012 w
held slx PCC tneetln8s and an APCM. Stx Standlng Committee meetings were also held throughout thè year. The
members of the Parochlal Church Council who served durlng the yèar are Ilsted on page l. Membership of the
PCC Is detemiine(l under the Church Rep￿entatIon Rul?5 and conslsts of certaln ex-offlcio member5 (the
Incumbentlprlest-ln-charge, curate, the churchwardens and members of the Dea￿ry Synods), and 9 members of
the churth who are elected at the Annual Parochial Church Meetlng IAPCMI. As of thè 2020 APCM there are no
vacancles on the PCC. All members of the cong¥egatlon are encouraged to stand for electlDn to the PCC and we
try to ensure a balance of skKls and experlence whèrè possible.
