## **Message from the Chair**

Welcome to Keira's Kingdom's annual report for 2022-2023. This year has been a time of significant growth and impact for our charity. We have expanded our team, broadened our reach, and deepened our commitment to providing essential support and advocacy for individuals living with chronic, mental, and life-limiting illnesses.

Our mission is to make the invisible visible, fighting for a more accessible and inclusive society for all. This past year, we've witnessed the tangible results of this mission in the lives of over 100 adults in the Stockport area. From improved confidence and well-being to increased financial stability and reduced isolation, the impact of our services is clear.

We are deeply grateful for the dedication of our staff, volunteers, and supporters, whose passion and commitment make our work possible. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to our beneficiaries, whose resilience and strength inspire us every day.

As we look to the future, we are filled with hope and determination. We are committed to continuing our vital work, expanding our services, and reaching even more individuals in need.

Thank you for your continued support. Together, we can create a world where everyone feels seen, heard, and supported.

Sincerely,

Mr E Roberts Chair of the Board of Trustees

## **Our Mission & Vision**

Our vision is to provide advocacy, liaison, and support at the earliest convenience to anyone living with a life-limiting, mental, or chronic illness.

Our mission is to address health and financial inequalities and relieve the poverty of any person with a disability, by providing benefits support, health appointment support and advocacy, promoting inclusion, and preventing isolation.

## **Chronic Illnesses**

In the United Kingdom, over 9.1 million people were living with a chronic health condition in 2019, a figure that has since risen due to the Covid pandemic. These illnesses, often invisible, pose significant challenges to those affected. Keira's Kingdom is dedicated to supporting these individuals, helping them navigate the complexities of their conditions and advocating for their needs.

## **Mental Illnesses**

Mental health struggles are a growing concern in the UK, with 3.5 million people in contact with mental health services in 2022-2023. At Keira's Kingdom, we recognise the importance of mental well-being and offer specialised support to those facing mental health challenges, ensuring they receive the care and resources they need.

## **Life-limiting Illnesses**

Life-limiting illnesses, including cancer and dementia, are increasingly affecting younger adults and children. We are committed to raising awareness of these conditions, particularly rare diseases, and providing comprehensive support to those living with them. 90% of our staff, volunteers, and the CEO have personal experience with these illnesses, giving us a unique understanding of the challenges faced.

## **Our Impact**

Our advocacy, liaison, and support services have had a profound impact on the lives of our beneficiaries. We have helped to:

- Improve confidence (90%)

- Reduce social isolation (100%)

- Enhance health and well-being (90%)

- Improve access to healthcare (100%)

- Increase financial stability (100%)

- Strengthen local connections (90%)

- Reduce medication waste (100%)

- Foster a positive outlook for the future (80%)

## **Disability Rights Network**

June 2023 saw Keira’s Kingdom take the lead on the disability rights network in Stockport. The network is made up of a collaboration of community groups, charities and organisations who support individuals with disabilities. The idea of the network is for all of the above, to work together collaboratively to enhance the lives of people with disabilities and to address issues locally in Stockport, to help towards making Stockport a more inclusive and accessible borough for all people with disabilities. This work is ongoing.

## **Financial Summary**

## **Events & Groups**

We have hosted two free family events in the past year, reaching over 100 families. These events provided a fun and supportive environment for individuals and families affected by chronic, mental, and life-limiting illnesses.

Above are photos from Keira’s Kingdom Summer event, which was held August 2022 at Adswood Young person’s centre, the home of an amazing community group Autisk. The venue is disability accessible with an onsite sensory room, all the families who attended had a fantastic day. Keira’s Kingdom offered free food, ice creams, ice lollies and drinks, a free face painter, summer themed arts & crafts and a bouncy castle. All children were given a goody bag to take home that was filled with small gifts and sweets. The families who attended this event had lots of fun and enjoyed the day.

The above photos are from Keira’s Kingdom Easter event held in March 2023 at Heaton Norris Pavillion. The venue was perfect and accessible with a huge play area outside the centre. Keira’s Kingdom offered free food, drinks and cakes, a free face painter, Easter themed arts & crafts plus an Easter egg hunt. The Easter Bunny then presented all the children with an Easter egg to take home. All the families who attended had a thoroughly enjoyable day.

Keira’s Kingdom events are paid for with money that is fundraised from the public. Keira's Kingdom raises these funds by selling second-hand donated clothing and carrying out online raffles weekly. Keira’s Kingdom would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all our supporters and everyone who has helped Keira’s Kingdom to fundraise. Without your support our events would not happen.

Keira's Kingdom online Mindfulness, guided meditation group, has been running for 2 years now. The numbers have grown within this group year upon year and so many are benefitting from this group. We explore different topics every week and the feedback for this group has been immense.

Keira's Kingdom ladies' multisport group in collaboration with Age UK has been a big hit with ladies who suffer with all types of disabilities. The pressure to perform at other groups for these ladies has been so intense so most of our attendees had dropped out of other groups. We have played walking football, netball, table tennis, badminton and boccia within the group. The sessions are fun and the feedback from the sessions has been amazing. Thanks to Age UK for working with Keira's Kingdom on this project.

## **Acknowledgements**

Keira's Kingdom would like to extend a special thank you to all of our events volunteers, fundraising volunteers, support staff, admin staff and our fantastic CEO who has worked hard to build new working partners within the community and bring in funding to enable our services to continue.

Keira's Kingdom would like to thank The National Lottery Reaching Communities Fund and all National Lottery players, for funding organisational development work at Keira's Kingdom for the period 2022/2023.

Kiera’s Kingdom would also like to thank Stockport Council and the Stockport Local Fund for funding Keira's Kingdom advocacy, liaison & support workers and encouraging our reach and growth.

Keira’s Kingdom worked collaboratively with Disability Stockport, distributing the household support fund. Keira’s Kingdom would like to thank Disability Stockport for enabling our clients to obtain items that they wouldn’t have been able to obtain without this support. This positive working relationship is still ongoing.

Most of all Keira's Kingdom would like to thank our supporters who continually help us to raise funds and spread awareness of our cause, without you all our work would not be possible.

## **Looking Ahead**

In the coming year, we aim to:

- Expand our services to reach even more individuals in need.

- Strengthen our partnerships with other organisations.

- Continue to raise awareness of chronic, mental, and life-limiting illnesses.

- Advocate for policy changes that improve the lives of those we serve.

Thank you for your continued support of Keira's Kingdom. Together, we are making a difference.
