Objectives and Activities

SORP reference
Summary of the purposes of
the charity as set out in its
governing document
Para 1.17 To promote, improve, develop and
maintain public education in and
appreciation of the art and science of
music, particularly brass band music in
all its aspects.
Summary of the main
activities in relation to those
purposes for the public
benefit, in particular, the
activities, projects or services
identified in the accounts.
Para 1.17 and
1.19
Throughout the course of the year the
band has undertaken 28 performances
throughout the year. Each of these has
been used to promote the appreciation of
the art and science of music. Three of
these concerts took place with youth
organisations to help promote brass
band music to the next generation. Our
audiences include a wide age range,
including families who have taken
children to our performances.
Statement confirming
whether the trustees have
had regard to the guidance
issued by the Charity
Commission on public
benefit
Para 1.18 The charity has followed the guidance on
public benefit. All monies raised by the
charity have been used solely for the
purpose of providing a public benefit
through our performances this year.

Achievements and Performance

SORP reference
Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Para 1.20 Through our performances this year we
have provided musical appreciation of
the arts (in particular brass band music)
to several thousand people across the
country. Alongside this we have also
worked with young musicians to help
inspire the next generation of brass
players in the local area.
All of our performances have been open
to the wider public with the aim to
promote the art of brass band playing.

Financial Review

Financial Review
Review of the charity’s
financial position at the end
of the period
Para 1.21 The charity has returned from the
lockdown in a relatively good position.
We have a full band (in terms of players)
and bookings are returning to normal.
Whilst we have shown a small profit for
the year we are looking to improve our
financial situation going forward. We
hope in 2023 to secure more bookings for
the band (which will increase our income)
and secure our financial position in
future years.
Statement explaining the
policy for holding reserves
stating why they are held
Para 1.22 Under normal circumstances we would
hold money in reserve as a contingency
against unexpected fiscal outgoings.
However, over the lockdown period our
reserves had been depleted and this
resulted in a change of focus for this
financial year.
Amount of reserves held Para 1.22 Zero
Reasons for holding zero
reserves
Para 1.22 With this being the first year post-
lockdown the band’s usual reserves had
been depleted during the lockdown
period. This year was used to get the
band back to running as normal as a
going concern.
Details of fund materially in
deficit
Para 1.24 There is no deficit this financial year.
Explanation of any
uncertainties about the
charity continuing as a going
concern
Para 1.23 There are no uncertainties about the
charity continuing as a going concern in
the future.
