Achievements and Performance
| SORP reference | ||
|---|---|---|
| Summary of the main achievements of the charity, identifying the difference the charity’s work has made to the circumstances of its beneficiaries and any wider benefits to society as a whole. |
Para 1.20 | Off the Curriculum has conducted over 100 in-person and online learning opportunities (lecturers, one-to-one mentoring, online learning opportunities) covering topics ranging from climate change and sustainability to astronomy. These live events garnered significant attendance, with each session attracting more than 25 participants across the United Kingdom. Alongside these live events, our students have actively engaged with our online educational materials, which are hosted on the EDUCO platform, amounting to a total of 100 unique users. Additionally, our academic mentoring program has been available to 35 students over a two-year period, demonstrating a tangible impact on the young individuals involved in the charity’s educational initiatives. Below are a few student testimonials outlining the influence of our educational services on them: "During my time attending OTC seminars, I found myself developing a new interest in neuroscience. It has been really rewarding not only because of the knowledge I’ve acquired from particular areas of study, but also because it enabled me to share and exchange ideas with other like-minded peers. OTC has pushed me to get out of my comfort zone through delivering a presentation for an assessment piece, which has increased my confidence and allowed me to develop my oral skills as well as understanding about the brain and addiction. My OTC experience has been intriguing and exciting and I look forward to attending more sessions!" Jeriel, Programme Participant. "OTC is definitely a unique experience which few extracurricular academic |
programmes have achieved in my opinion. It has provided its students with a tailored agenda according to a vote on the next specific subject for the new term. This not only makes the participants look forward to the sessions, but it also gives them a sense of involvement instead of being directed by the volunteers by an already-given plan. The experts brought in to talk have a wide-ranging background from all around the world, giving the students an insight into the different fields and institutions they themselves may desire to be involved in later. The content is also astoundingly high-level which distinguishes it from what a student would study from day to day at school; I have as a result benefited from an expansion in vocabulary, ideas, and cognizance of topical and important affairs such as climate change and neuroscience. The self-determined assessment at the end of each chosen course acts as a consolidation of knowledge and is also a method of getting the students to focus throughout the sessions for their assessment to be reflective of their dedication to the programme. This feature certainly is special to OTC only!" - Raghad, Programme Participant.

| Policies and procedures adopted for the induction and training of trustees |
Para 1.51 | This policy outlines the induction and training process for new volunteers at Off the Curriculum (OTC). It emphasises the importance of a comprehensive induction to integrate volunteers effectively into the charity's operations. Key topics covered during induction include legal frameworks, roles and responsibilities, essential training, and mentoring opportunities. The policy also details different levels of essential training and procedures for monitoring attendance and compliance. Responsibilities of staff, officers, and trustees are clearly defined, ensuring that induction and training are effectively implemented and evaluated. Additionally, the policy highlights the charity's commitment to equality and diversity, with regular audits to monitor effectiveness and compliance. The document will be reviewed periodically to ensure it remains up-to-date and aligned with organisational needs and legal requirements. |
|---|---|---|
| The charity’s organisational structure and any wider network with which the charity works |
Para 1.51 | The charity operates with two boards of advisory personnel: our elected trusteeship and our young person’s trustee board. These advisory board members convene annually to review the charity's performance and suggest improvements. Sitting below the trustee boards are the Charity Chair and a broader network of Officers, each fulfilling distinguished roles within the charity. Additionally, the charity engages short-term volunteers to contribute to the delivery of educational materials, such as guest speakers and creators of educational video content. |
| Relationship with any related parties |
Para 1.51 | The wider community with which Off the Curriculum interacts includes our London-based partnered schools and charities, i.e., Gresham College, network. These partners either advertise our upcoming events or collaborate closely with us to support our shared interests of furthering educational empowerment. |
