## **Chairman’s Message**

## ﷲ اﻟرﺤمن اﻟرﺤم سم

Alhamdulillah, it is with deep gratitude to Allah (SWT) that I reflect on the past year — a year marked by adversity, resilience, and impactful change. As the world continued to face widespread hardship, from natural disasters to deepening poverty and growing health challenges, the work of Al-Wahab Foundation became ever more critical. With your continued support, we stood by communities across Pakistan, Bangladesh, Uganda, Morocco, Afghanistan and the UK, reaching those most in need with compassion and care.

This year has shown us the importance of staying agile and responsive. In the face of calamities, including earthquakes that displaced thousands, health crises threatening lives, and a rising cost of living that left families struggling, our teams were present, delivering life-saving aid and long-term solutions. Whether addressing food insecurity, water scarcity or preventable blindness, our efforts were focused not just on providing relief, but on restoring dignity and rebuilding futures.

Empowerment remained central to our mission. We worked to create opportunities for individuals to rise out of poverty, enabling men and women to earn a sustainable livelihood and regain their independence. From access to clean water and essential healthcare to economic support and seasonal aid during Ramadan and Qurbani, every initiative reflected our belief that no one should be left behind.

At Al-Wahab Foundation, we never lose sight of the human stories behind every effort. What we achieve is not measured solely in numbers, but in lives changed, in the return of dignity, in the restoration of hope, and in the renewed strength of individuals and families who now have a path forward.

None of this would be possible without our dedicated donors, volunteers and partners. Your consistent generosity and trust in our work have allowed us to respond with care and commitment, even in the most difficult circumstances. For that, I extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported us in our mission of serving humanity.

As we look ahead, the road remains challenging, but with your continued support and the help of Allah Almighty, we remain devoted to serving humanity with sincerity and excellence. May Allah (SWT) accept our efforts and guide us always.

Our Mission & Values

_Al-Wahab Foundation_ | Annual Report 2023 - 24

## **Key Challenges**

## **Al-Wahab Foundation’s Journey in 2023–2024**

The past year was marked by profound hardship and human suffering. **Catastrophic earthquakes in Morocco and Afghanistan** left entire communities in ruins. At the same time, global inflation deepened poverty across regions, restricting access to essentials like food, healthcare, and education, especially among the world’s most vulnerable.

In Pakistan, economic turmoil hit low-income families the hardest. Soaring living costs, rising unemployment, and collapsing social safety nets left millions, particularly women, children, and the elderly, struggling to survive.

## **Our Response: Compassion in Action**

Amid this turbulence, Al-Wahab Foundation acted swiftly and strategically.

In disaster zones like Morocco and Afghanistan, we delivered life-saving emergency aid with speed, sensitivity, and sincerity.

In Pakistan, we strengthened and scaled up our development programmes including:

- **Rozgar and Women Empowerment** to support livelihood stability

- **Eye Care and Clean Water** initiatives to uphold health and dignity

- Community-led solutions that promote resilience and self-reliance

Every intervention reflected our unwavering commitment to dignity, transparency, and local leadership.

## **Beyond Relief: Tackling the Roots of Poverty**

Our efforts went further than just **emergency relief.** We worked to amplify the voices of marginalised communities and drive advocacy aimed at addressing systemic inequalities. We believe meaningful change begins when we listen, understand, and stand together to challenge the causes of injustice, not just its symptoms.

## **The Road Ahead: Hope, Justice, and Collaboration**

The world is changing fast, but for too many, it’s not changing for the better. Unless bold, compassionate reforms are made to expand access to livelihoods, education, and healthcare, millions will remain trapped in cycles of poverty. This is a moral and collective challenge.

At Al-Wahab Foundation, we remain rooted in hope and action. Together with our partners, donors, and communities, we are striving to build a future defined not by crisis, but by compassion, opportunity, and justice for all.

Annual Report 2023 - 24

**The people of Afghanistan faced an immense tragedy when two powerful earthquakes, each measuring 6.3 in magnitude, struck the western province of Herat—first on Saturday, 7 October, and again on Wednesday, 11[th] October 2023. These twin quakes brought widespread devastation to an already vulnerable region. More than 1,000 lives were lost, over 2,000 people sustained injuries, and at least 1,320 homes were reduced to rubble. ## **Water for Life**

At Al-Wahab Foundation, we understand that access to clean water is fundamental to sustaining life, improving health, and ensuring overall well-being. That is why we are dedicated to implementing sustainable water projects that bring safe and reliable water sources to communities in need.

With your support this year, we have been able to make a life-changing impact. Through donating water wells and hand pumps, we have been able to help provide clean, safe water to vulnerable communities and protect them from preventable illnesses.

## **Pakistan's Water Crisis:**

During the past few years, it has become evident that water scarcity remains a critical issue in Pakistan. Approximately 40% of the population has reliable access to safe drinking water, leaving millions vulnerable to the consequences of unclean and insufficient water sources.

At Al-Wahab Foundation, our highest priority is to ensure that marginalised and vulnerable communities have reliable access to clean drinking water—protecting health and preserving life.

Through our ‘Water for Life’ initiative, we have taken significant strides to meet the immediate needs of those affected by water scarcity while also addressing the root causes of water contamination. This

includes the implementation of sustainable, well-maintained water pumps and the construction of water wells in key community locations.

Through our partnership, we initially worked to install **61 water wells** and **600 hand pumps** across various regions in Pakistan, bringing clean water to **15,250 people** through water wells and benefiting an additional **15,000 individuals** through hand pump installations. Out of the 61 water wells, **10** were installed in collaboration with **WMS Global** .

The water infrastructure has been established in some of the most impoverished areas of Pakistan, including: Khipro, Khai, Shah Sikanderbad, Achro Thar, Jamrao, Dera, Dilyar, Chotiyari-

an, Gujri (Sanghar), Bhan, Dadu, Pipri, Khudabad, Allahabad, Monder (Dadu).

Our implementation process is underpinned by rigorous field assessments and community engagement, ensuring that installations are strategically placed in areas with the greatest need.

These water solutions are not only restoring health and dignity but also bringing long-term impact to families and entire villages across Pakistan.

## **Water Crisis in Uganda**

## **2023-2024 Overview:**

Uganda, like many parts of Africa, continues to face a severe water crisis, with a significant portion of its population lacking access to clean and safe drinking water. This ongoing scarcity not only threatens public health but also deepens the vulnerability of communities, particularly women and children, who are disproportionately affected by waterborne diseases.

In response to this urgent need, Al-Wahab Foundation’s Water Project in Uganda is dedicated to providing sustainable and long-term water solutions to communities struggling with poverty and limited resources.

Your support plays a vital role in addressing Uganda’s water crisis as we installed **1 water well** during 2023 to 2024. By donating to Al-Wahab Foundation’s water initiatives, you contribute directly to transforming lives and building healthier communities. Together, we have been able to expand access to clean water and create a lasting impact.

## **Building Masjids, Strengthening Communities**

In places where resources are scarce and daily life is a struggle, the presence of a Masjid brings more than just a space to pray, it brings hope, dignity, and unity. A Masjid becomes a centre for spiritual growth, education, and community life. It is where hearts turn to Allah (SWT), and where Islamic values are passed down through generations.

At Al-Wahab Foundation, we deeply understand the sacred importance of these spaces. That is why our Build a Masjid initiative focuses on constructing Masjids in the most neglected and rural areas, where communities often lack the means to build one themselves.

With careful planning, high-quality materials, and close collaboration with local communities, we ensure every Masjid is not just a building, but a lasting spiritual landmark that uplifts and unites the people it serves.

## **Masjid Projects in Pakistan**

Between 2023 and 2024, Al-Wahab Foundation completed **23 Masjids in Pakistan** , providing spaces for worship, learning, and community gathering to more than **2,300 people.**

In collaboration with **WMS Global** , we constructed an additional **5 Masjids.** These included **three in Balochistan, one in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and one in Punjab,** collectively reaching a further **1000 individuals.** These communities, previously lacking dedicated prayer spaces, now benefit from vibrant and welcoming Masjids designed to serve their spiritual and social needs.

Our dedicated team in Pakistan continues to enhance the design and quality of every Masjid we build. Each structure is developed with attention to both functionality and aesthetics, and our donors have expressed great satisfaction with the beautiful and lasting impact of these sacred spaces.

Building Masjids, Strengthening Communities

## **Masjid Projects in Uganda**

Our commitment to serving underserved Muslim communities extends beyond borders. In Uganda, we successfully completed the construction of **two Masjids** during this period. These new places of worship now serve **1,200 worshippers** in rural regions where access to Islamic facilities is limited. The Masjids are more than just prayer spaces. They have become focal points for unity, learning, and spiritual upliftment, reinforcing our mission to strengthen faith and dignity wherever we work.

## **The Lasting Impact of Our Masjid Project**

In **Pakistan and Uganda** , Al-Wahab Foundation built a total of **30 Masjids** between 2023 and 2024, collectively benefiting around **4,500 people** . These achievements were made possible by the generosity of our donors and the dedication of our teams on the ground.

As we look to the future, we remain committed to expanding this life-changing programme. With every Masjid we build, we are not simply creating structures. We are strengthening faith, reviving communities, and preserving Islamic heritage for generations to come.

## **Serving Hope: Food Packs and Cooked Meals for Those in Need**

At Al-Wahab Foundation, we are deeply committed to addressing food insecurity and standing in solidarity with vulnerable communities through our Feed the Hungry initiative. Guided by compassion and purpose, we deliver essential food aid to families in crisis, offering not just sustenance, but renewed hope and dignity in the face of hardship.

With your continued support, we aim to ensure that no one is left behind in the fight against hunger.

## **Food Packs**

In Pakistan and Uganda, food scarcity is more than a temporary issue. It continuously fuels the cycle of poverty for those who are desperately trying to escape such conditions.

Through its food packs distribution programme, Al-Wahab Foundation supports families in need by providing monthly food packs containing essential food staples. These packs include vital items such as rice, flour, sugar, lentils, and oil or ghee, helping to alleviate food insecurity and ensure families have access to basic nutritional needs.

Each food pack provided by AWF is carefully curated to sustain a family of six for an entire month, significantly reducing

food insecurity and supporting overall well-being.

Between October 2023 and September 2024, our team distributed **1,425 carefully curated food packs** , each designed to sustain a family of six for an entire month, reaching **11,275 individuals** across **Pakistan, Uganda, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh.**

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, **500 packs** were delivered across various regions in **Pakistan** , including Dadu, benefiting **5,000 people.** With support from **HEWO** , an additional **100 packs** reached **600 beneficiaries** in Pakistan.

In **Uganda** , in partnership with the **Raising Hope Foundation, 250 packs** were distributed,

including **200 during Muharram** , supporting **1,500 individuals.**

In **Afghanistan** , **325 packs** were distributed with **Human Relief Mission** and **100** more with **As-Subah Academy** , aiding **2,975 people.**

In **Bangladesh** , **150 packs** brought relief to **1,200 beneficiaries.**

These efforts reflect our unwavering commitment to fighting hunger and restoring dignity to vulnerable communities, with continued plans to expand this vital initiative.

## **Cooked Meals**

Through our cooked food programme, donors have enabled Al-Wahab Foundation to serve freshly prepared meals to the most vulnerable.

In both Pakistan and Uganda, the situation has been further exacerbated by prolonged economic hardship. In these conditions, many families struggle to access even a single hot meal each day. To address this urgent need, our efforts have been geared towards focusing on remote and underserved communities, where access to essential food is severely limited. With the support of local communities, our team has been able to carefully assess and prioritise those in greatest need.

In partnership with **Raising Hope Foundation Uganda** , a total of **300 cooked meals** were distributed, benefitting **300 individuals.** Moreo-

ver, a total of **104 large pots of cooked food** were prepared and distributed across targeted regions in **Pakistan** . These include Burmi Colony, Surjani Town, Kalapul, Malir, Karnal Colony, Mangopeer, Gadap Town (Karachi) and Chitral (KPK). These included **22 pots of cooked meals** served during religious gatherings and Qur’an recitations, **32 pots of Qurbani meals on Eid ul-Adha, and 50 pots delivered during the month of Muharram.**

Furthermore, our team provided **2,400 cooked meals** and **1,000 breads** in collaboration with As-Subah Academy, facilitating **3,400 beneficiaries in Afghanistan.** Through this initiative, we have been able to provide nourishment to a total of **9,450 individuals** between October 2023 to September 2024. ## **Rozgar Project: Creating Sustainable Livelihoods**

Launched in 2015, the Rozgar Project is one of Al-Wahab Foundation’s flagship projects, designed to tackle poverty at its root by enabling long-term economic empowerment. In a country where nearly 24% of the population lives below the poverty line, millions of families face ongoing struggles due to limited infrastructure, high unemployment, and restricted access to resources, particularly in remote and underserved areas.

What distinguishes this programme, is the personal involvement of Chairman Mufti Abdul Wahab, who travels to Pakistan every year to oversee and participate in the direct distribution of rickshaws, motorbikes, and small business assets.

Between October 2023 and September 2024, the Rozgar Project successfully distributed **10 auto rickshaws** and **50 motorbikes** to deserving individuals across Hyderabad, Dadu, and Karachi. These essential vehicles are more than assets, they are lifelines that provide recipients with stable employment, reliable income, and a renewed sense of purpose. This phase of the project directly benefited an estimated **480 individuals** , including family members who now enjoy improved household stability and economic uplift.

In addition, through our Small Business Initiative, **9 individuals** in Karachi were provided with commercial carts to start or grow their own micro-enterprises. These modest businesses have proven to be powerful tools for economic mobility, with benefits extending to **90 people** , including dependents. Each cart represents a step toward independence, restoring dignity and fostering a culture of self-reliance.

The Rozgar Project continues to exemplify Al-Wahab Foundation’s vision of poverty alleviation through sustainable solutions. By focusing on economic empowerment, we are not just meeting temporary needs, we are investing in futures, rebuilding livelihoods, and helping communities thrive from the ground up.

## **Empowering Women Through Sustainable Livelihood Opportunities**

We believe that empowering women is fundamental to creating lasting social and economic transformation within certain communities. One of the cornerstones of this effort is our Women Empowerment Project. This project focuses on enabling women from disadvantaged backgrounds to become economically self-sufficient, by providing them with the tools and confidence needed to empower them to become agents of change within their households and beyond.

This project has concentrated on providing sewing machines to women from underprivileged backgrounds, enabling them to strengthen their tailoring skills and establish sustainable sources of income from the comfort and safety of their homes. In the 2023–2024 period, Al-Wahab Foundation successfully distributed **200 sewing machines** to women across suburban areas of Karachi, including Kalapul and Surjani Town. This effort has directly empowered these women to pursue independent livelihoods, positively impacting an estimated **1,800 beneficiaries** including family members and communities.

All applicants undergo a thorough selection and screening process to ensure that this support reaches those most in need. Many of the recipients live in areas where cultural and logistical barriers limit their ability to work outside the home. By offering them an opportunity to earn from within their households, the initiative breaks down these barriers while encouraging a sense of resilience and self-sufficiency.

## **Restoring Vision Through Eye Care Initiatives**

The gift of sight is among the most transformative forms of aid we can offer. At Al-Wahab Foundation, we believe that no one should suffer from preventable blindness simply because they live in poverty.

In Pakistan, the most common causes of blindness—cataracts and refractive errors—are both treatable, yet they continue to impact thousands in low-income communities.

Through our Eye Care programme, we are committed to restoring sight and preventing further loss by providing access to essential treatments, consultations, and awareness on eye care. Our services cater to both children and the elderly, ensuring that individuals at all stages of life receive the eye protection care they need to reconnect with the world around them.

## **Cataract Surgeries: Restoring Sight, Restoring Dignity**

During this fiscal cycle, with the support of our donors, we successfully conducted **1,200 cataract surgeries.** These procedures have enabled **1,200 individuals** to regain not just their vision, but also their independence, confidence, and quality of life.

With the generosity of our donors, Al-Wahab Foundation has been able to deliver a dignified and seamless experience to patients receiving cataract surgeries. Through your contributions, we have ensured that all aspects of patient care are thoughtfully covered. This includes providing safe and reliable transportation to and from hospitals, allowing patients to access vital treatment without additional financial hardship.

On surgery days, patients are also provided with nutritious cooked meals to offer comfort and strength during their procedures. In addition, specialised surgical tools and hygiene kits have been supplied to ensure the highest standards of care and infection prevention. Team AWF also facilitates eye cataract surgery patients with free pick and drop service ensuring their safety and comfort.

Demonstrating our commitment to compassionate service, Chairman Mufti Abdul Wahab personally visited multiple locations to connect with and support those undergoing treatment. On 2nd November 2023, he visited Khalid Eye Hospital in Karachi to meet with patients preparing for cataract surgeries, offering words of comfort and encouragement. This was followed by a visit to Al-Baseer Hospital in Karachi on 25th April 2024, where he again spent time with beneficiaries and medical staff. Mufti Abdul Wahab also visited various eye camps in underserved areas such as Orangi Town, Landhi, and District Dadu, where he extended his personal support to those in need. These visits are a powerful reflection of AWF’s hands-on approach, reinforcing our mission to restore sight and dignity to vulnerable individuals through meaningful, people-centred care.

## **Eye Camps**

As part of our commitment to accessible healthcare and tackling visual impairment, Al-Wahab Foundation’s Eye Camps provide free eye consultations and treatment to individuals who lack access to basic eye care services. These camps are staffed by experienced and qualified medical professionals who carry out thorough eye examinations, deliver accurate diagnoses, and prescribe essential medications and corrective eyewear—entirely free of charge.

Between October 2023 and September 2024, Al-Wahab Foundation organised **50 Eye Camps** in underserved areas including New Karachi, Surjani Town, Gadap Town, Orangi Town, Landhi, Gulshan e Maymar, Baldia Town, Korangi, (Karachi), Dadu (Sindh) Winder (Balochistan). Over this period, we were able to screen and treat **12,467 beneficiaries** , providing routine

check-ups, dispensing medications, and issuing referrals for further hospital-based care where advanced treatment was required.

Due to the overwhelming response to our Eye Camps, Mufti Abdul Wahab made the decision to organise **50 Eye Camps** annually, aiming to reach and support as many people in need as possible. Chairman AWF Mufti Abdul Wahab personally visits the eye camps and meets the patients to check if everyone is being facilitated well. Our eye camps play a vital role in reducing the burden of preventable blindness and enhancing health outcomes among vulnerable communities. By restoring vision, they empower individuals to regain independence, improve their quality of life, and return to work, education, and daily activities with confidence and dignity.

## **The Spirit of Ramadan: A Month of Mercy and Giving**

Ramadan is a sacred month of spiritual reflection, compassion, and unity—values that lie at the heart of Al-Wahab Foundation’s mission. Each year, we strive to embody the true spirit of this blessed month by delivering meaningful support to communities in need, helping them observe Ramadan with dignity, peace, and ease.

We recognise that fasting during Ramadan is a deeply spiritual act of devotion, reflection, and self-discipline. However, for many vulnerable individuals and families, the lack of access to essentials for Suhoor and Iftar can make this sacred time challenging. At AWF, we are dedicated to supporting those in need—ensuring no one is left behind during this blessed month.

Our annual Ramadan Project is a cornerstone of our humanitarian efforts. Through the generosity of our donors, we provide vital food assistance to those facing financial hardship across multiple regions. To further expand the reach and impact of this initiative, Al-Wahab Foundation has also partnered with trusted organisations on the ground—extending our collective ability to deliver relief where it’s needed most.

Together, we continue to uphold the values of generosity, solidarity, and care—ensuring that the blessings of Ramadan are shared with all, especially those who need them most.

## **Qurbani**

## **Bringing Blessings to Those in Need**

Eid Al-Adha is a sacred occasion during which Muslims around the world commemorate the devotion of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) by performing the act of Qurbani—a reflection of obedience, faith, and compassion. Observed on the 10th, 11th, and 12th of Dhul Hijjah, this spiritual practice serves not only as a fulfilment of religious duty but also as a powerful means of reaching those most in need.

We are dedicated to ensuring that the blessings of Qurbani extend to impoverished and underserved communities. Through the generous support of our donors, we carefully source, transport, and

distribute Qurbani meat as well as cooked food to those who may otherwise be unable to partake in the joy of Eid.

In Dhul Hijjah 2024, we successfully reached **31,832 beneficiaries, distributing meat from 191 lambs, 87 goats, 44 cows, and 17 camels.** Every sacrificial animal was meticulously selected to meet Shariah-compliant health and safety standards, ensuring the integrity of the Qurbani process here at AWF. Our team also made sure to supervise the sacrificial procedure to ensure that all actions were performed in strict accordance with Islamic principles.

## **AWF’s Winter Relief: Bringing Warmth to Those in Need**

As the winter approaches, its extreme conditions become a serious threat to many communities; especially those already facing economic hardship and social instability. Seasonal changes often deepen their struggles, making even basic survival a daily challenge.

In response, Al-Wahab Foundation’s Winter Relief Project continues to embody our dedication to supporting vulnerable communities during the challenging cold months of the year.

During our Winter Appeal 2023-2024, Al-Wahab Foundation distributed Winter Kits which are made up of the following vital items across **Pakistan, Afghanistan, and the UK.** They are carefully assembled to include gloves, blankets, socks, shawls, warm clothing, sleeping bags, thermoses, and other essentials to provide much needed protection against the cold.

In **Pakistan** , daily life continues to be a struggle for those living below the poverty line. Worsening inflation and widespread unemployment have made even the most basic necessities unaffordable. As families strive to maintain stability amidst rising costs, winter only deepens their hardship. Through the provision of Winter Survival Kits, Al-Wahab Foundation has been able to distribute **700 kits** across Karachi and Dadu, benefiting approximately **4,200 individuals** during October 2023 - September 2024.

Even in developed nations like the United Kingdom, the rising cost of living is taking a severe toll. Many households are grappling with food insecurity and financial hardship. Our Winter Appeal was launched to ensure that no one is left behind during these challenging times. Thanks to your generous support and our partnership with **Hotspot Food** , we’ve provided **100 essential Winter Kits** , reaching **400 individuals and families in need.** These kits have offered vital relief during the severe winter months, particularly for those experiencing homelessness and living without shelter due to dire financial circumstances.

## **Zakat Distribution**

From underserved communities in Pakistan to families struggling with hunger and poverty, Zakat donations to Al-Wahab Foundation have empowered over **13,000 beneficiaries** between 2023 and 2024 alone. These donations helped deliver critical eye care, distribute winter kits and food packs, and provide sustainable livelihoods through our Rozgar Project.

_**“Take from their wealth a charity by which you purify them and cause them increase…”**_ (Surah At-Tawbah 9:103)

When managed with sincerity and precision, Zakat becomes a transformative tool for poverty alleviation, wealth redistribution, and spiritual purification.

Zakat, one of the five pillars of Islam, is more than an act of giving, it is a powerful force for economic justice, compassion, and community transformation. At Al-Wahab Foundation, we uphold this responsibility with the utmost care and integrity, ensuring every donation is used in strict accordance with Islamic principles to uplift lives and restore dignity.

## **Fulfilling a Sacred Duty**

Zakat is not merely a charitable option, it is a religious obligation and one of the fundamental tenets of Islam, ordained by Allah to ensure justice, equity, and care for the most vulnerable members of society. As Allah says in the Qur’an:

Al-Wahab Foundation is honoured to help Muslims fulfil their duty of giving Zakat by channelling it towards providing essential food aid and winter support, enabling access to life-changing eye care facilities, and empowering families through sustainable livelihood opportunities.

## **Sadaqah’s Impact: Uplifting Lives Through Charity**

## **What is Sadaqah?**

Sadaqah, the voluntary act of charity in Islam, reflects the sincerity, compassion, and generosity that lies at the heart of our faith. Unlike Zakat, which is a compulsory obligation, Sadaqah can be offered at any time, in any amount, and in countless forms. The role of Sadaqah in Islam is deeply rooted in prophetic tradition. The Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) said, _**“Charity does not decrease wealth”**_ (Sahih Muslim). It purifies one’s wealth and soul, offering protection from calamity while reinforcing a sense of shared humanity. Sadaqah is not limited by income, status, or circumstance. It is accessible to all and beneficial to all. Every act of giving, no matter how small, is recognised and rewarded by Allah (SWT).

## **Monetary Sadaqah: Meeting Urgent & Ongoing Needs**

One of the most impactful forms of Sadaqah is monetary charity, which enables rapid response to crises while addressing sustained hardship in struggling communities. At Al-Wahab Foundation, your monetary Sadaqah has played a vital role in helping individuals and families facing poverty, illness, and instability. During this reporting period, our Sadaqah Fund directly benefited an estimated **9,800 people in need.**

Through these donations, we were able to deliver medical assistance to patients unable to afford treatment, support people with sustainable livelihood, and distribute food packs to families experiencing hunger. Additionally, your contributions helped provide clean water solutions in areas lacking safe access and supported the construction and renovation of Masjids, restoring both physical and spiritual infrastructure for communities in need. These efforts not only met urgent needs but also laid the groundwork for resilience, dignity, and long-term wellbeing.

## **Sadaqah Animal Sacrifice**

An important part of our Sadaqah programme was the facilitation of Sadaqah through animal sacrifice. With the help of our valued donors, Al-Wahab Foundation sacrificed **9 goats** and distributed the meat to **432 individuals.** For many recipients, this was one of the few times in the year they were able to enjoy such nutrition. Beyond physical sustenance, this initiative symbolised inclusion, care, and the deep spiritual connection between donor and recipient.

## **Serving Humanity in the UK**

In the United Kingdom, the ongoing cost-of-living crisis and rising unemployment have placed immense strain on low-income households. For many individuals, affording daily necessities, particularly food, has become increasingly difficult. The ever-increasing food prices, coupled with economic instability, have left many feeling isolated and overwhelmed by circumstances beyond their control.

_Al-Wahab Foundation_ | Annual Report 2023 - 24

Through our Serving Humanity project, Al-Wahab Foundation has been able to quickly and calmly respond to these challenges by delivering support to those most affected. With the generous contributions of our supporters, we have been able to provide hot meals and winter survival kits to many families facing hardship in the UK.

With the support of the **Harrow Association of Somali Voluntary Organisations (HASVO)** , we distributed **50 food packs** , providing nourishment to **300 individuals** within the local community.

From 2023 to 2024, we delivered **400 hot cooked meals** on a weekly basis, feeding **400 individuals** , allowing us to make a difference to many during difficult times.

In addition, Al-Wahab Foundation also extended support to underprivileged communities through its Ramadan Food Pack Distribution.

## **Serving Iftar Meals to NHS Heroes During the Month of Ramadan**

In a spirit of unity and gratitude, Team Al-Wahab Foundation proudly partnered with **London Northwest University Healthcare NHS Trust (LNWH)** during Ramadan 2024 to honour NHS frontline staff through a series of Iftar programmes. This collaboration was initiated through a meaningful engagement with Imam Rizwan Rawat, who currently serves as the Head of Chaplaincy Services at LNWH, a landmark appointment as he is the first Imam to hold this esteemed position.

Al-Wahab Foundation, in partnership with LNWH, organised Iftar distributions at three major hospitals: Northwick Park Hospital, Central Middlesex Hospital, and Ealing Hospital NHS Trust. These events were more than just meal distributions, they were thoughtful acts of appreciation for the dedicated healthcare professionals who tirelessly serve their communities, often under immense pressure. Muslim and non-Muslim staff alike gathered to break their fast or share in the experience, embracing the shared values of compassion and care.

Adding to the significance of these gatherings, Mufti Abdul Wahab, Chairman of Al-Wahab Foundation, personally attended each of the Iftar events along with his dedicated team. His presence brought a heartfelt and personal touch, as he met with doctors, nurses, and support staff, distributed meals by hand, and offered words of encouragement

Across the three hospitals, a total of **460 freshly prepared halal meals** were served. Each meal was more than food—it was a gesture of solidarity and a moment of reflection during the sacred month of Ramadan.

This Ramadan initiative is part of Al-Wahab Foundation’s broader ‘Serving Humanity in the UK’ programme, which also encompasses hunger relief, winter aid, and support for low-income and homeless individuals. Looking ahead, Al-Wahab Foundation intends to collaborate with Imam Rizwan Rawat to further expand its outreach, particularly in supporting NHS staff who continue to serve on the front lines with dedication and resilience.

## **Stories of hope**

## **Your Support Restored Abdullah’s Hope and Eyesight**

My name is Abdullah and I am a resident of New Karachi. For over five years, I struggled with vision problems, but I couldn’t afford to even get it examined. I heard about Al-Wahab Foundation’s free eye camp in our area and went for a free check-up where I was diagnosed with eye cataract. AWF not only arranged for my free of cost eye surgery, they also provided transport, meals, and support throughout the process. Everything was handled with such care and respect. I’m deeply grateful to the Al-Wahab Foundation and Mufti Abdul Wahab. May Allah reward them for giving me the gift of sight.

## **Your Qurbani Brought Joy to My Family – Saleem**

My name is Saleem. I live with my wife Zareena and our nine children in a remote part of Sindh. I work as a mercenary and am the only one earning. No matter how hard I try, it’s tough to feed my family.

We often go without proper meals, and meat is something we simply can’t afford. But on Eid Al-Adha, when we receive Qurbani meat from Al-Wahab Foundation, it's a blessing. We cook, store, and savour it over a few days, it brings real happiness to our home. I thank the Al-Wahab Foundation from the bottom of my heart. May Allah reward them for remembering families like mine.

## **Our Objectives & Activities**

Al-Wahab Foundation is a non-profit development organisation devoted to uplifting lives in impoverished and crisis-affected regions, without discrimination of any kind. Our mission is built around key pillars that aim to bring long-term, sustainable change:

**Transforming Lives Through Rozgar Project:** We empower individuals through livelihood support by providing rickshaws, delivery motorbikes, and small businesses, enabling them to earn a dignified living and support their families.

**Women Empowerment:** Recognising the pivotal role of women in society, we offer resources like sewing machines to help women become economically independent and socially empowered.

**Feeding the Hungry:** To combat food insecurity and malnutrition, we regularly distribute food packs, cooked meals, and iftar provisions to families in need, especially during times of crisis and across Ramadan.

**Water for Life Project:** Access to clean water is a basic human right. Our Water for Life Project installs water hand pumps and wells in underserved communities, significantly improving health and hygiene standards.

**Providing Free Eye Care:** We offer life-changing support through our free Eye Camps, where cataract surgeries and eye treatments are provided to those who cannot afford them, restoring sight and dignity.

**Emergency Relief:** In times of disaster and conflict, our teams are quick to respond with emergency aid, including food, shelter, hygiene kits, and medical care, ensuring vulnerable communities are not left behind.

**Build a Masjid Project:** We help build new mosques in under-resourced areas, creating sacred spaces for prayer, community gathering, and Islamic learning for generations to come.

**Serving Humanity in the UK Projects:** Our compassion begins at home. We support vulnerable individuals across the UK through hot meal distributions, winter aid (including warm clothing and hygiene kits), and assistance for the homeless and low-income families.

Through these wide-ranging initiatives, Al-Wahab Foundation remains committed to transforming lives with dignity, compassion, and excellence — one community at a time.

## **Expertise In Our Humanitarian Projects:**

This includes our response to any natural disasters, including earthquakes, pandemics, flooding, and every such situation that requires efficiency and quick action. We also focus on building a better community as an important aspect of our objectives through our local projects and social bonding with a wide variety of people and organisations.

## **Empowering The Communities:**

Development of integrated programmes especially sustainable livelihood projects which enable vulnerable communities to break out of the cycle of poverty, whether it is by setting up a small business or distributing rickshaws. We have a gender equality policy therefore the Women Empowerment project gives women an equal chance to make their journey towards a better future.

## **Accountability**

Al-Wahab Foundation is committed to maintaining and continually improving high standards of accountability, which is essential to the integrity and effectiveness of our charitable work. To support our mission and ensure maximum impact, we have robust systems in place that include stakeholder participation, structured feedback processes, complaints handling, and regular reporting. We take the responsibility of managing donations very seriously. When a contribution is made toward a specific cause or project, we ensure that the necessary resources and personnel are in place to deliver aid directly to the individuals and communities most in need. All charitable funds, including Zakat, Sadaqah, and other forms of giving, are carefully monitored and reviewed by our Founder and Chairman, Mufti Abdul Wahab, to ensure that every donation is used in strict accordance with its intended purpose. Upon completion of each project, detailed reports and updates are shared with donors to maintain transparency and build trust. Al-Wahab Foundation upholds open and accountable relationships with all stakeholders, including the public, donors, volunteers, staff, and relevant regulatory bodies in every country where we operate. We are also grateful to donors who have submitted a Gift Aid Declaration, as this significantly enhances the value of their support and helps us do even more for those in need.

##

The Trustees confirm that they abide by the Charity Commission's general guidance on public benefit, complying with Section 4 of the Charities Act 2006 to have due regard to public benefit in pursuance of its objectives and activities. The initiatives taken by Al-Wahab Foundation left a deep impact and delivered a sense of well-being & happiness without compromising on people's self-respect. We have been playing an effective role in helping those who are in dire need. AWF has undertaken different projects over the years; some were meant to provide immediate relief, while others were meant to uplift the economic status of families. In either case, our efforts have proven fruitful and helped the beneficiaries in changing their lives and providing them with a chance to uplift their current situation. It is worth mentioning that whatever we have achieved so far is quite encouraging and a source of boosting our morale and spirit to continue the good work for the public's benefit and help.

## **Future Vision & Development Plans for Al-Wahab Foundation**

Chairman Mufti Abdul Wahab outlined his vision for the future direction of Al-Wahab Foundation, with a focus on enhancing current projects and expanding their reach to benefit more vulnerable communities. Al-Wahab Foundation plans to continue delivering its existing programmes with greater efficiency and impact, particularly in regions where the need remains critical.

A new initiative under consideration is the launch of a solar panel installation project to address energy poverty, especially in areas experiencing ongoing energy crises. This effort reflects Al-Wahab Foundation’s commitment to sustainable and practical solutions for long-term benefit. Ensuring transparency and maintaining donor trust remain top priorities, AWF will continue to provide regular feedback, monitor project outcomes, and uphold accountability at every stage of implementation.

Technology continues to play a pivotal role in the AWF’s operations. The use of social media and digital platforms is being actively leveraged to share updates, promote campaigns, and reach wider audiences, both locally and internationally. There is a strong emphasis on improving digital engagement and making it easier for supporters, particularly overseas, to contribute and stay informed.

Domestically, Al-Wahab Foundation is expanding its partnerships with local charities and community organisations across the UK. Efforts include the distribution of food packs, hot meals, winter kits, and support for individuals with disabilities. As resources grow, the Foundation intends to scale these initiatives further.

Sustainability and responsible delivery are central to all future planning. Programmes will be designed to ensure lasting impact, avoiding one-off interventions. Internally, the organisation continues to strengthen its team through volunteer training and capacity building, fostering a culture of learning and collaboration.

Despite anticipated challenges, such as inflation, global conflict, and any circumstantial shifts, Al-Wahab Foundation remains committed to growth through strategic outreach and diversification of its donor base. Its overarching aim is to continue serving humanity with compassion, integrity, and long-term vision.

## **Partnership Policy And Principles**

Al-Wahab Foundation recognises the value of collaboration in maximising impact and reaching vulnerable communities with dignity and care. Our partnerships are built on shared values, trust, and accountability. The following principles guide all our local and international partnerships:

**Shared Value and Complementary Strengths:** Every partnership must add value. Each party brings unique strengths, be it knowledge, networks, or resources, which contribute to the success of our programmes. Roles and expectations are clearly defined to promote mutual trust and accountability.

**Mutual Respect and Inclusivity:** We acknowledge and respect differences in backgrounds, beliefs, and working styles. Partnerships are grounded in shared humanitarian values and a joint commitment to dignity, gender equality, and inclusion.

**Clear Roles and Understanding:** A successful partnership requires clarity on each organisation’s role. We strive for transparency, regular communication, and shared goals to ensure both organisations contribute meaningfully and benefit equitably.

**Accountability to Communities:** Our ultimate accountability lies with the communities we serve, especially those affected by poverty, disaster, or conflict. We also maintain transparency with other stakeholders, including donors, local authorities, and partner organisations.

**Sustainable and Strategic Partnerships:** Al-Wahab Foundation is committed to building long-term, strategic partnerships. We prioritise partners who share our vision, are open to growth, and are responsive to changing needs and emerging challenges.

## **Partner Appraisal and Minimum Requirements**

## **Before entering any formal collaboration, we ensure that:**

The partner is a good strategic fit for our mission and approach.

The partner has the capacity to deliver, manage funds responsibly, and meet compliance standards.

We share a common understanding of roles, responsibilities, and expected outcomes.

## **Agreements and Support**

## **Once a partnership is approved:**

A Partnership Conversation is held to align on purpose, roles, and mutual expectations.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is signed outlining the broad terms of collaboration. Al-Wahab Foundation offers capacity-building support where needed to help partners meet operational, financial, and compliance standards.

This approach ensures that our partnerships are rooted in trust, aligned with our mission, and focused on sustainable impact for the communities we serve.

## **Fundraising Activities**

The trustees periodically review the charity’s fundraising activities and sources of income to ensure compliance with best practices and to diversify funding streams. Over the reporting period, Al-Wahab Foundation continued to adopt innovative fundraising methods to increase awareness and generate support.

Notably, the use of television charity appeals proved highly effective in engaging wider audiences and increasing donations. In addition, the trustees encouraged the regular use and updating of online fundraising platforms, such as JustGiving, to reach more donors and promote transparency.

The charity is committed to maintaining high standards in fundraising, ensuring that all campaigns are ethical, transparent, and aligned with the values of Al-Wahab Foundation. Where third-party fundraising is involved, appropriate oversight and controls are implemented.

## **Financial Review**

## **Income**

All incoming resources are included in the Statement of Financial Activities (SOFA) when the charity is legally entitled to the income, the amount can be quantified with reasonable accuracy, and there is a certainty of receipt. Donations: This comprises all incoming resources from donations and gifts collected directly by the charity and income from fundraising events/ appeals during the year. Gift Aid tax recoverable under the Gift Aid Scheme is recognised where there is an entitlement, certainty of receipt, and the amount can be measured with sufficient reliability. Where a claim for repayment of income tax has been or will be made, such income is included in the debtors’ amount if still not received by the year-end.

## **Reserves Policy**

The beneficiaries of the Al-Wahab Foundation are communities from different backgrounds and cultures, the only thing common among them is "poverty and insufficient resources" most of them receive assistance and support from AWF on a regular basis as their economic conditions do not allow them to fulfil the requirements on their own. AWF's ongoing projects are a big hope for thousands of people, and any delay or obstacle in delivering the projects can awfully affect their lives. Therefore, trustees are in view that a minimum of twelve-month reserve would be necessary to run the programs smoothly and to ensure sustainability. The AWF runs learning, fundraising, capacity building and advocacy activities and programmes supporting communities and individuals. The AWF Reserves Policy is to maintain a sufficient level of reserves to enable normal operating activities to continue over a period of up to six months should a shortage in income occur and to take account of potential risks and emergencies that may arise from time to time. This policy will be reviewed at the Annual Trust meeting each year. The Chairman will present the Trustee Board with a draft document and supporting materials that enable them to make an informed decision about levels of Reserves and feeds into their approval of the strategy document and annual operating budget.

## **Review**

During the year from 1st October 2023 to 30th September 2024, the charity raised **£996,988** in direct donations from the general public to carry out the programmes mentioned in the Statement of Financial Activities. Most of this was utilised in the year, and the remaining funds are in reserve for ongoing projects. The charity continues to work closely with a number of partner organisations in providing aid to the needy, and of the expenditure, **£461,664** was spent with these partner organisations. The income tax recoverable from Gift Aid is used for admin and marketing-related expenses.

Liabilities are recognised as expenditure as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to that expenditure, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be required in settlement and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably. Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all cost related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings they have been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources.

## **Tangible fixed assets**

Tangible fixed assets are stated at historical cost less accumulated depreciation and any accumulated impairment losses. Historical cost includes expenditure that is directly attributable to bringing the asset to the location and condition necessary for it to be capable of operating in the manner intended by management.

Depreciation is charged so as to allocate the cost of assets less their residual value over their estimated useful lives, using either a straight line or reducing balance method, as indicated below.

Depreciation is provided on the following basis: Fixtures & Fittings - 15% Straight Line Computer Equipment - 20% Straight Line

The assets' residual values, useful lives and depreciation methods are reviewed, and adjusted prospectively if appropriate, or if there is an indication of a significant change since the last reporting date.

Gains and losses on disposals are determined by comparing the proceeds with the carrying amount and are recognised in profit or loss.

## **Taxation**

The charity is exempt from corporation tax on its charitable activities.

## **Fund accounting**

Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees.

Restricted funds can only be used for particular restricted purposes within the objects of the charity. Restrictions arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for particular restricted purposes.

Further explanation of the nature and purpose of each fund is included in the notes to the financial statements.

## **Foreign currencies**

Assets and liabilities in foreign currencies are translated into sterling at the rates of exchange ruling at the statement of financial position date. Transactions in foreign currencies are translated into sterling at the rate of exchange ruling at the date of transaction. Exchange differences are taken into account in arriving at the operating result.
