BOWERS ALLERTON TRUST ANNUAL RETURN 2024 - 2025
Date : 24/01/2026
Bowers Allerton Trust is a charitable organisation dedicated to the preservation and maintenance of the historic Bowers Allerton Hall, Chapel and its surrounding gardens, located in the heart of Great Preston and Allerton Bywater, Leeds.
Through careful stewardship and a dedication to the community, Bowers Allerton Trust ensures that these historical landmarks continue to enrich the lives of locals. The Trust’s mission is to ensure the buildings are appropriately maintained and available for use by community groups and members of the public.
Accounts Overview
The building continues to need various repairs, many of which require significant investment, fundraising or grants.
Hiring of the main hall and café sections continued through the year with the main hirers being the local Allerton Bywater Scouts group and various community groups. Weekly Coffee, Craft and Chat events commenced in February and look to be a reliable income stream for 2025-2026.
The cost of utility bills continues to be significant, particularly the gas, largely due to previous accounts and being forced on extortionate tariffs in the early days of the building transfer. The utility bills remain under control at present, but it is the hope of the trustees that the heating throughout the buildings are reviewed for replacement in the coming year, however significant investment, fundraising or grants would be required.
The larger property maintenance goals of the year remain for next year, as after numerous unsuccessful grant funding applications, we continue focused on community engagement and awareness and seasonal events to provide income.
Various quotes for are being gathered from tradespeople and builders for targeted refurbishment and building repair work. The quotes will assist in grant funding applications to fund the work and aid in prioritisation of the work ahead.
Private donations to the Trust for the hall have been well received this financial year with donations targeting offset of the commercial waste disposal and over £1000 from a Tea Dance run by one of the Friends of the Trust.
Various fundraising events were run throughout the year including an Autumn Fair, Christmas Seasonal Songs by Candlelight in the old Chapel. The trust plan to run other seasonal fairs and events, including an 80s Disco themed event for the next year as well as additional promotion to get further interest in hiring of the hall.
