BOWERS ALLERTON TRUST ANNUAL RETURN 2023-2024
Date : 20/01/2025
Bowers Allerton Trust is a charitable organisation dedicated to the preservation and maintenance of the historic Bowers Allerton Hall, Chapel and its surrounding gardens, located in the heart of Great Preston and Allerton Bywater, Leeds.
Through careful stewardship and a dedication to the community, Bowers Allerton Trust ensures that these historical landmarks continue to enrich the lives of locals. The Trust’s mission is to ensure the buildings are appropriately maintained and available for use by community groups and members of the public.
Accounts Overview
The building continues to need various repairs, many of which require significant investment, fundraising or grants.
The main hall and café area required new ceiling lights and electrical work required for being able to safely hire out the buildings and comply with fire and safety regulations. The electrical work was conducted by a local, trusted firm at a cost of £2,640.
Hiring of the main hall and café sections continued through the year with the main hirers being the local Allerton Bywater Scouts group and the Leeds Templars Explorers group. A local dog training company is also very supportive of the charity and hires the hall regularly for 6 weekly sessions throughout the year.
The cost of utility bills continues to be significant, particularly the gas, largely due to previous accounts and being forced on extortionate tariffs in the early days of the building transfer. The utility bills are under control at present, but it is the hope of the trustees that the heating throughout the buildings are reviewed for replacement in the coming year, however significant investment, fundraising or grants would be required.
Internet is provided to the buildings for use by the Trustees and visitors of the hall as it was believed that this is a must for hiring, particularly given that the area has blackspots for mobile coverage. The internet is using a direct, business fiber connection (FTTP) and is cost-effective for the usage. This may be reviewed after the business contract expires.
Various fundraising events were run throughout the year including an Autumn Fair and the trust plan to run seasonal fairs and events for the next year as well as additional promotion to get further interest in hiring of the hall.
