Objectives: To promote the restoration, preservation, repair, maintenance, improvement and beautification of the church building, including, but not limited to, monuments, fittings, fixtures, stained glass, furniture, ornaments and chattels in the church and churchyard belonging to the church.
The advancement of the education of the public in the heritage and conservation of the church building and its environment.
Summary of Main Activities in 2024:
Fund Raising FSPSP continued to fundraise through involving the local community:
The Easter Market in March was another success and continues to be well supported.
Christmas card sales were down on last year but compensated for by an increase in logo item sales.
Quiz Evenings : The Friends were well supported at both the Village Quiz Evening and at the Bulls Head Quiz Evening.
Donations. These included Wolfson Trust £7,000, private donors £4,000, Ewhurst Secret Gardens Event £1,000 and Ellens Green Mission Hall Fund £600.
The main activity was the Family Fun Day at the Sayers Croft Activity Centre that was well supported and raised £5,563.
Visits: We have hosted many visits from both nearby and London Schools to the church while based at the Sayers Croft Activity Centre. The schools have tailormade history sessions to suit their needs. The highlight is a visit to the bell tower. A notice asking church visitors to write in the Visitors Book is now in place and visiting schools are encouraged to write in it
Visiting local U3A groups and the village school have also had history sessions, aided by our Ewhurst History Society Trustee.
FSPSP has put up special stewarded History displays during Heritage weekends and the Parish Fete. Again, a positive response from all involved.

TRUSTEES ANNUAL REPORT January – December 2024
Repairs : A number of repairs to the church building were carried out by the PCC without the need for financial support from our charity.
An initial application was submitted for a Heritage Lottery Fund Grant of over £250,000 to help fund the urgently needed repairs to the south transept roof and upper stonework, plus the stonework on the bell tower. After submission, HLF advised us to resubmit to a ~~l~~ ower HLF grant of below £250,000 as this would be more accessible for us. An application for £220,00 was submitted but the application was turned down, but we can resubmit next year. Both applications included adding improved audio visual equipment in the church and talks were held with local schools and youth groups as to how they can become involved in planned drama events linked to the history of the church and the village. All responses have been positive.
Contribution made by volunteers
These activities could not have been achieved without our hard-working volunteers, who make it clear that they come because they enjoy meeting people as much as they help support FSPSP. They see the church as the heart of the community and value its history
Achievements and Performance
-
We raised an additional £30,680 for the charity that will be used towards repairs to the church building.
-
We identified repair work that needed doing and monitored the PCC as the work was done.
-
In addition, we ran events to promote the work of the charity, the history of the church and to explain the restoration work.
Risk statement
We have identified the following major key risks and have risk mitigation procedures for their control:
-
Loss of key trustees with adequate range of skills (trustees are all elderly)
-
Failure to attract the level of funding to meet the charity's restoration/repair objectives
The Trustees have agreed to take the following actions to further mitigate/manage these risks:
-
Recruit an additional, younger trustee with appropriate skills (when needed)
-
Co-opt a volunteer/ employee with relevant skills when required
-
Research additional grant sources
-
Set up a legacy scheme
The Trustees will monitor progress and review these major risks every year or more regularly if
needed.
