## **Governing Document** 

The Company (The Mission”) was established under a Memorandum of Association which established the objects and powers of the charitable company and is governed under its Articles of Association amended and adopted on 05 November 2021:

The directors of the charitable company (''the Charity'') are its trustees for the purpose of the Charity Law and  throughout this report are collectively referred to as the Trustees.

## **Trustee’s’ Report for the year ended 31 March June 2023** 

The Trustees present their annual report with the financial statements of the Charity for the period ended 31 March 2023 and confirm that they comply with the Charities Act 1993, as amended by the Charities Act 2006 and 2011, the Articles and Charities SORP (FS 102). 

## **History of the Charity** 

Newham Muslim Safety Forum was incorporate on 5[th] November 2021. On that day it was granted registered charity status with the Charities Commission of England and Wales under Charity number: 1196434. At the point of incorporation fixtures and fitting, office equipment, cash and bank and in hand were passed on to the charity. 

## **Objectives of the charity** 

Our mission is to alleviate hunger and improve the well-being of homeless individuals in Newham, London. We strive to provide more than just meals—by offering nutritious food, fostering a strong sense of community, and advocating for sustainable, long-term solutions to homelessness and food insecurity. 

We are committed to ensuring that every homeless individual who needs support has access to healthy, dignified meals, recognizing that food is not just a basic need, but also a crucial step towards restoring dignity and hope. Beyond immediate assistance, we work to raise public awareness of the underlying social and economic challenges faced by homeless individuals, including unemployment, lack of affordable housing, and mental health issues. 

Recognizing the complex nature of homelessness, our organization extends its support to those suffering from various addictions, offering a compassionate approach that addresses both physical and emotional needs. We aim to provide holistic care that contributes to their journey toward recovery, stability, and self-sufficiency. 

Our long-term vision includes establishing a dedicated centre where homeless individuals can access not only nutritious meals but also essential services such as bathing facilities, hygiene resources, and support programs. This center will serve as a safe and welcoming space, empowering individuals to take steps toward rebuilding their lives.

## **Key Objectives:** 

- **Immediate Relief** : Provide nutritious and healthy meals to homeless individuals in Newham, ensuring no one in need goes hungry. 

- **Sense of Community** : Foster a welcoming, supportive environment where individuals can connect with others and feel part of a caring community. 

- **Advocacy** : Raise awareness about the root causes of homelessness and food insecurity, such as poverty, mental health challenges, and systemic inequalities. 

- **Support for Addiction Recovery** : Offer resources and compassionate care for individuals struggling with addiction, recognizing its impact on homelessness. 

- **Long-Term Vision** : Develop a community centre offering meals, bathing facilities, and support services to help homeless individuals regain their dignity and take steps towards a more stable life. 

## **STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT** 

The Mission is controlled by its governing documents, Memorandum and Articles of Association. The board of Trustees administer the Mission. The Trustees meet three times a year, and there are committees covering finance and Personnel. The trustees are responsible for setting general policy, finalising and approving the annual plan and budget, monitoring the Mission and taking major decisions about the strategic direction of the charity and any capital expenditure. The Trustees give their time freely and receive no remuneration or any other financial benefits. 

A Principal Administrator is appointed by the Trustees to manage the day to day operations of the Mission. To facilitate effective operations, the Principal Administrator has delegated authority, within terms of delegation approved by the Trustees, for operational matters including finance, employment and performance related activity. The Principal Administrator gives his time freely and receive no remuneration or any other financial benefits. 

## **Risk Management** 

The Board of Trustees have assessed the major risks to which the Mission is exposed, in the those related to the operations and finances of the Mission. These risks are formally documented and regularly reviewed, and the Trustees are satisfied that systems are in place to

mitigate the Mission’s exposure to significant risk. The Mission is also seeking to recruit additional Trustees so that our beneficiaries can benefit from further perspectives. 

## **Achievements and Performance** 

Over the past year(s), our charity food bank has made significant strides in addressing hunger and supporting the homeless community in Newham, London. Through our dedicated efforts, we have not only provided critical resources but also built a foundation for long-term solutions to homelessness and food insecurity. Below are some of our key achievements and milestones: 

## **1. Meals Provided:** 

- Successfully delivered over 1000 nutritious meals to homeless individuals in the community, ensuring access to healthy food options for those most in need. 

- Developed partnerships with local food suppliers, restaurants, and volunteers to maintain a consistent supply of fresh, balanced meals. 

## **2. Community Impact:** 

- Created a welcoming environment where homeless individuals feel valued and supported, with Newham community events that foster connection, dialogue, and trust. 

- Built strong relationships with local organizations and churches, expanding the reach of our services and involving a diverse range of volunteers. 

## **3. Advocacy and Awareness:** 

- Organized few awareness campaigns and outreach initiatives to inform the public about homelessness, food insecurity, and the social challenges faced by vulnerable populations. 

- Engaged with local media and policymakers to bring attention to the structural causes of homelessness and advocate for more affordable housing and mental health services. 

## **4. Support for Addiction Recovery:** 

- Assisted a lot of individuals struggling with addiction by connecting them with professional support services, rehabilitation programs, and mental health counselling. 

- Launched an addiction support initiative that offers resources, guidance, and a pathway to recovery, which has resulted in great deal of participants making measurable progress towards rehabilitation. 

## **5. Volunteer Engagement:** 

- Increased volunteer participation over the past year, involving some dedicated volunteers in our meal distribution, event coordination, and advocacy efforts.

- Implemented a volunteer training program to ensure that all volunteers are equipped to provide compassionate care and understand the complexities of homelessness and addiction. 

## **6. Progress Towards Long-Term Vision:** 

- Secured funding and initiated planning for the development of a dedicated community centre that will provide essential services such as meals, bathing facilities, and counselling. 

- Held preliminary discussions with local authorities and potential donors to create a sustainable long-term strategy for the centre, with plans to launch within the next few years.

## **Note 1: Accounting Policies** 

## **Accounting convention** 

The financial statements of the charity, which is a public benefit entity under FRS 102, have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP (FRS 102) 'Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2015)', Financial Reporting Standard 102 'The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the   UK and Republic of Ireland' and the Charities Act 2011, The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention. 

## **Incoming Resources** 

Incoming resources represents grants and donations from Local Authorities and other charitable bodies (on an accruals basis), together with donations and contributions to costs from participants and other interested parties. 

## **Deferral of incoming Resources** 

Grants received during the year which relate to future periods are deferred to those future periods but are shown on the face of the statement of financial activities in accordance with the SORP. 

## **Resources Expended** 

Resources expended are allocated to the particular activity where the cost relates directly to that activity. However, the cost of the overall direction and administration on each activity, comprising the salary and overhead cost of the central function, is apportioned equally across the board . 

## **Taxation** 

The Charity is exempt from corporation tax on its charitable activities. 

## **Fund Accounting** 

Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees.

No remuneration directly or indirectly out of the charity was paid or payable to any trustee. During the period no expenses were reimbursed to the trustees of the Charity. 

## **Note 6: Taxation** 

Newham Muslim Safety Forum is a registered charity and is exempt under Part 1 of the Corporation 

Tax Act 2010 on its income and Section 256 Taxation of Chargeable Gains Act 1992 on its Capital Gains. The Charity is registered for VAT and the expenditure excludes VAT where applicable.
