## **Chairman’s report for the year 5 November 2021 to 4 April 2023** 

## **History** 

The  Roseland  Surgeries  Patients  Group  was  created  as  a Charitable  Incorporated  Organisation  on  5[th] November  2021. Before this date the Roseland Surgeries Patients Group was set up  as an  unincorporated  charity  registered  with  the Charity Commission no. 1170266. 

The new charity and the former charity were merged on 5[th] April 2022. The assets of the former charity were transferred to the new charity. 

The cash held in accounts at Barclays Bank was left in the accounts pending the creation of a new account for the new charity. 

## **Aims and Objectives.** 

The first aim of original charity was created to promote social, mental and physical wellbeing of the patients registered at the Roseland Surgeries GP practice. 

This aim has been continued with the CIO. During the financial period under review several activities were organised to benefit registered patients. 

1. Roseland Café. A pop-up café serving tea/coffee and cakes in  Gerrans  Parish  Memorial  Hall  (GPMH)  every  second Thursday afternoon. This is a popular event with elderly residents.  The  event  is  funded  by  voluntary  donations from attendees. 

2. Veryan Café/ Warm Hub. This pop-up café operates in the Veryan Village Hall in the Roseland peninsular.  Provides hot and cold drinks and warm food for local elderly people in a social setting. 

3. Walking for Fun. A chance to join a walking group around the Roseland Peninsula. No costs are involved. 

4. Line Dancing. A regular event at GPMH in Gerrans. Funded by voluntary donations from attendees. 



5. Singing for Fun. A regular event at GPMH for the chance to meet new friends and sing for an hour, accompanied by a local pianist. Funded by voluntary donations. 

6. Painting for Fun. Group activity supported by local artists. Also held at GPMH. Funded by voluntary donations. 

7. Table  tennis.  A  popular  regular  event  at  GMPH  and  at St.Mawes Memorial Hall. 

All  of  these  activities  needed  financial  support  in  the  early stages and now are mainly financially self-sufficient. 

The second aim of the charity is to provide and maintain a network of defibrillators across all the villages in the Roseland peninsula. The network consists of 26 defibrillators placed in prominent positions in the local villages of St Mawes, Gerrans, Portscatho, St Just in Roseland, Ruan Lanihorne and Veryan. These villages are located some distance from local ambulance and paramedic access and sometimes more than an hour away from hospitals. The charity considers this activity as key to the wellbeing of local residents and visitors.

The trustees hold two community accounts at Barclays Bank, Truro. 

**RSPG 300 Club account** . Sort code 20-87-94 No. 13655237.This account was previously used to raise funds so that  the  former  charity  could  the  employment  of  a  Social Prescriber at the GP practice. This involved a private lottery in which  patients  set  up  monthly  standing  orders.  Part  of  the proceeds were used to provide a prize draw each month. In addition  the  charity  received  support  from  the  Big  Lottery Community Fund to fund the Social Prescriber. In August 2021 the Primary Healthcare Trust for the Roseland area decided to fully fund the employment. The Big Lottery was asked if the charity could then use the donations for other purposes. This was agreed.
