The objects of the charity are as detailed in the previous secon.

The headline figure of planng close to 20,000 trees throughout Eastbourne since its incepon in November 2021 is a fantasc achievement for Treebourne. The charity is fortunate to have developed a wealth of enthusiasc volunteer support within the community and will connue to work to increase the volunteer base across exisng sites and new projects.

Key projects have included:

The Greening Eastbourne Streets project involved planng 1,000 street trees, primarily in areas of low tree cover and high deprivaon, but also in locaons where trees have been lost due to Dutch elm disease and ash dieback. The natural environment of the town has been improved, and Treebourne has at the same me been able to spread the message of the long-term benefits of planng trees to the community. This project has also strengthened the exisng excellent relaonship with Eastbourne Borough Council, and Treebourne’s support in their quest to become carbon neutral by 2030. The development of a Treebourne web app has acvely encouraged the community to become involved and take ownership of the ongoing tree care of the newly planted trees. An addional educaonal programme, ‘Seeds4Kids’, is aimed at younger school children introducing them to the wonder of being outdoors, educang them about the lifecycle and importance of trees, and how to culvate them from seed, and nurture them.

Three small community tree nurseries are now established where approximately 2,000 trees a year are at various stages of growth to supply both exisng and future projects. As a small team, the trustees are in regular communicaon making joint decisions on the day-to-day running of the charity. They meet formally a minimum of three mes a year to discuss forward planning and strategies, ensure all charity governance is in place, plan future fundraising and grant applicaons, and ensure exisng project reporng is on track. The trustees have considered the Charity Commission’s public benefit guidance. The trustees all give their me freely and no remuneraon to the trustees has been paid. They remain commied and focussed in working towards Treebourne’s aims and objecves.

Section D Achievements and performance

During its inaugural period, Treebourne remains a volunteer-led charity Summary of the main focussed on finding sites of all sizes where trees and wildflower meadows can achievements of the charity during the year be planted. Successful funding bids have enabled Treebourne to plant over 18,000 trees across 9 park and off-street sites, as well as 1,000 street trees and 3 wildflower meadows. Three small community tree nurseries are now established where approximately 2,000 trees a year are at various stages of growth to supply both exisng and future projects. Excellent relaonships are being forged with communies within the borough including the enrolment of volunteers to regularly maintain all the project sites. This has included establishing Street Tree Champions to specifically care for 1,000 Street Trees planted throughout Eastbourne. The effecve introducon of a web app has acvely encouraged the community to become involved and take ownership of the ongoing tree care of these newly planted trees.

Other successful projects include the Seeds4Kids programme, which targets the educaon and encouragement of children, through schools and local groups, towards understanding the lifecycle and benefits of trees, and how to culvate and care for them.

Since its foundaon, Treebourne has worked hard to develop and foster a close collaborave partnership with Eastbourne Borough Council. This has been instrumental in helping the charity find appropriate locaons and funding for new tree-planng projects that maximise the capture of CO2 emissions, enhance biodiversity, improve the natural environment and ulmately turn Eastbourne green.
