OBJECTS OF THE CHARITY
The purpose of The Coast Care Trust is to support Coast Care which is run by the
Northumberland Coast National Landscape (previously known as Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) to benefit the Northumberland Coast and the people who live, work and visit. Activities carried out by Coast Care consist of the following:
-
1 Wildlife and habitat conservation activities
-
2 Beach Cleaning
-
3 Dealing with invasive and non-native species
-
4 Plant and wildlife monitoring and recording
-
5 Improving access to the coast.
STRUCTURE GOVERNANCE & MANAGEMENT
This is the third year of the charity.
The charity is administered by the board of trustees who operate in line with the constitution. The charity does not employ any staff.
The trustees have referred to the guidance in the Charity Commission's general guidance on public benefit, when reviewing the aims and objectives and in planning its activities. The charitable objectives above provide a clear and demonstrable public benefit.
FINANCIAL REPORT
The results for the year show a deficit of £2,627 for the year as previous surpluses were invested particularly in volunteer training. Subtracted from last year's balance of £4,037 we now have a bank balance of £1,410.
During the year we raised £2,160 from donations from services - through volunteers making bird boxes and corporate work days. The expenditure of £4,787 was used to purchase tools for the Coast Care team, volunteer training, and thank
you events for the approximately 200 Coast care volunteers and a public demonstration event at a sustainability fair.
RISKS AND RESERVE LEVELS
The Trust has very limited risks, as one of its principles is only to assist in activities that it can afford to pay from current assets. If the Trust can not afford to pay from current funds it will not commit to the activity until the funds have been raised. In addition, the Trust only exists to raise money to support Coast Care and does not undertake other activities.
It maintains a small level of reserves the amount of which will depend on the timing of suitable Coast Care activities. These are held in a low risk current account.
STATEMENT OF TRUSTEES' RESPONSIBILITIES
The charity's trustees are responsible for preparing the Trustees' Annual Report and the financial statements in accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice).
