## **Trustees Report**
We present the Annual Report from Planet Earth Games Trust. This has been a year of significant challenges for the charity in what is a challenging environment for charities generally, with funds harder to come by and the need for charitable services even greater. This means a business model that provides diverse income beyond reliance upon grants is critical for a charity to develop and grow.
Planet Earth Games Trust is now a strong position of diversification. A critical plank of our financial sustainability is our website planetearthgames.org. We have had some data challenges during past year which we overcame and with a new and more affordable supplier, have renewed confidence in our systems to reap the benefits of our system to commercial markets in the UK, particularly in the corporate and education sector.
Our partnership with the Association of Colleges continues to grow and develop. Planet Earth Games has now become embedded in the UK’s further education sector’s annual events programme, and this is expected to be a significant driver of unrestricted income in 2024/25 and beyond, with the rich potential to upscale the model to primary, secondary and higher education markets.
In the forthcoming financial year, we have also secured a sizeable grant of £14,700 from Sport England to support the delivery of our education programme, easing the operational burden and over-reliance upon a voluntary workforce.
We also have the capacity to deliver corporate events through planetearthgames.org and in 2024/25 will have a strong focus on workplaces and securing corporate clients.
Our plogging programme is maturing and has a consistent monthly presence in London, Bristol and Exeter.
Through this programme, we have developed a strategic partnership with A Future Without Rubbish (AFWR) to combine our efforts on plogging consisting of our events programme, AFWR’s advocacy and campaigning and shared participation in the World Plogging Championships representing GB.
Together we will seek corporate support through bespoke plogging experiences and sponsorship on the programme. We have also delivered Carbon Literacy for Sport courses on a monthly basis, to give a steady stream of income.
Finally, although this is not a focus of the board at present, we are open to future international opportunities. Given the potential scalability of Planet Earth Games, the charity was invited to represent Sport England at a Sport Innovator summit in Paris, organised by the Royal Dutch Olympic Committee.
Whilst our focus remains on delivering impactful programmes that meet charitable objectives in the UK, we are alive to the possibilities of scaling to international markets, should the right opportunity present itself.
As we move into the next financial year, we are losing three members of the board; Edgar Herridge, Steve Gould and Tim Lages. All of whom have been valuable contributors in shaping the charity commercially and in the area of governance.
But as our charity has developed greater clarity on its operations and organisational priorities in the near future, we believe a leaner and more agile board will help us in becoming more efficient and impactful.
We are looking ahead with increased focus and optimism for Planet Earth Games Trust in an environment of wide potential in which we are well positioned to fulfil.

## **Independent examiner’s report to the trustees of Planet Earth Games Trust**
I report on the accounts of the CIO for the year ended 31 March 2024, which are set out on pages 4 to 6.
## **Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner**
The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is needed.
It is my responsibility to:
- examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act
- to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act
- to state whether particular matters have come to my attention
## **Basis of independent examiner’s report**
My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair view’ and the report is limited to those matters set out in the next statement.
## **Independent examiner’s statement**
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:
- (1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements:
- to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the 2011 Act and
- to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the 2011 Act have not been met or
- (2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached

## **1. Accounting Policies**
## **1.1 Accounting Standards**
The accounts (financial statements) have been prepared in accordance with Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard for Smaller Entities published on 16 July 2014, the Financial Reporting Standard for Smaller Entities (FRSSE), and the Charities Act 2011 and UK Generally Accepted Practice as it applies from 1 January 2015.
## **1.2 Income Recognition**
All income is recognised once the charity has entitlement to the income, it is probable that the income will be received and the amount of income receivable can be measured reliably.
Donations, are recognised when the Charity has been notified in writing of both the amount and settlement date. In the event that a donation is subject to conditions that require a level of performance before the charity is entitled to the funds, the income is deferred and not recognised until either those conditions are fully met, or the fulfilment of those conditions is wholly within the control of the charity and it is probable that those conditions will be fulfilled in the reporting period.
## **1.3. Expenditure Recognition**
Liabilities are recognised as expenditure as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to that expenditure, it is probable that settlement will be required and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably.
All expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis. All expenses including support costs and governance costs are allocated or apportioned to the applicable expenditure headings.
