Structure, governance and management

Jovie’s Journey was registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation with the Charity Commission on 27[th] October 2021.

The current trustees of the Charity are:

Objective and activities

The objects of the CIO are:

• for the public benefit, to relieve the needs of those who have received an ‘incompatible with life’ diagnosis during pregnancy, and to those who choose to continue with the pregnancy after such a diagnosis by the provision of emotional support.

Chair’s Report

This year has seen us continue to provide vital emotional and practical support to families who have received an “incompatible with life” prognosis for their baby. Although 2024 has brought challenges in terms of capacity and resources, we remain committed to honouring Jovie’s legacy by walking alongside families in the most difficult of times.

Jovie’s Journey exists to:

• Support families facing the diagnosis of a life-limiting condition for their baby.

• Provide emotional care through regular contact, listening, and encouragement.

• Offer financial and practical support where possible, to ease daily life.

• Raise awareness among medical professionals about family experiences of antenatal and end-of-life care.

Achievements and Performance

Supporting Families

Throughout 2024, we have continued to support both existing and new families. Many of these families experienced the loss of their baby during pregnancy or shortly after birth. For this reason, emotional support has remained our primary focus, provided through regular check-ins, messenger services, and being available as a listening ear.

We have also been able to provide practical and financial support in specific cases, including the purchase of specialist equipment and household items that made life easier for children and their families. These gestures, though modest in scale, have had a significant impact in showing families that they are not alone.

Raising Awareness

Trustee Deborah Manning has continued her important work in raising awareness among medical professionals. In partnership with East Anglia Children’s Hospice, she has presented to around 160 consultants and healthcare staff,

sharing her personal experience and highlighting areas where antenatal and end-of-life care can be improved. Feedback from these sessions has been extremely positive, affirming the value of hearing directly from a parent.

Fundraising and Donations

Fundraising in 2024 has been steady. We are deeply grateful to all who have given, including those who have donated in memory of Jovie. These funds have enabled us to continue offering support to families and to plan for the charity’s future growth.

The trustees have also explored the development of our website, with plans to add an online shop. Careful consideration has been given to ensuring costs remain manageable while extending the charity’s reach and visibility.

Operations and Administration

This year, we welcomed Charles Goddard as Treasurer. Work has been undertaken to update our records with the Charity Commission and to transition bank details accordingly.

Practical challenges have included technical difficulties with the charity’s email system. As a result, we have relied heavily on Messenger and WhatsApp for communication with families, ensuring that support remained uninterrupted.

Finances

There were no major financial developments to report this year. The trustees continue to ensure that funds received are directed towards the core purposes of the charity: supporting families and raising awareness.

Looking Forward

In 2025, our priorities will include:

• Updating our website and creating leaflets to increase awareness of the charity.

• Continuing Deborah’s presentations to medical professionals, building on the strong foundations already established.

• Exploring opportunities for new fundraising initiatives, including the potential online shop.

• Strengthening hospital and community links so that more families know Jovie’s Journey exists.

Conclusion

Despite limited resources, 2024 has been a year of steady progress and continued impact. Families continue to express their gratitude for the support they have received, reminding us of the importance of our work. As trustees, we remain dedicated to walking alongside families with compassion, love, and hope, ensuring that Jovie’s legacy continues to bring comfort and strength.
