Our Aims and Objectives:
CPC is dedicated to the advancement of child psychotherapy as a distinct profession within the field of child and adolescent mental health. It aims to:

protect the title of child psychotherapy to ensure it is only used by appropriately qualified practitioners;

create a community of child psychotherapy professionals with a shared vision and influential voice;
-
promote rigorous standards for training and continuing professional development;
-
establish a body of best practice principles, ethics and guidelines to be adhered to by practitioners and researchers;
-
lobby for funding and improved mental health services for children and young people;
-
influence public policy and legislation related to child mental health;
-
pioneer research in child psychotherapy practice and outcomes; and
-
inform the general public on the practice, benefits and outcomes of child psychotherapy and how to select the right mental health service.
CPC aims to ensure that everyone has access to psychotherapeutic services regardless of race, age, gender, disability, sexual orientation, social class, religion or belief and actively promotes poverty aware practice.
Organisational Structure:
The Board of Trustees (BoT) has currently three Trustees: Chair, Vice-Chair and a Treasurer.
The BoT has been meeting bi-monthly and has established the following Committees:

Membership Committee
The terms of reference for each committee set out the roles and governance of each committee in detail. Each committee has a Chair and Vice-Chair. These two members of each committee form the Executive Committee of the Child Psychotherapy Council. The Executive Committee sits between the Board of Trustees and the Committees. The Charity Trustees delegate some of their powers and functions to the above committees, where appropriate.
Report from the Board of Trustees:
Child Psychotherapy Council started its activities in October 2022, following its registration with the Charity Commission.
For the last year the trustees focused on recruitment of the members for each committee and on building the infrastructure of the organisation.
CPC’s goal is to ensure that those who use the title child psychotherapy are trained to the highest standard, have received thorough and comprehensive training and continue to receive appropriate support throughout their careers. It aims a register of highly qualified cross-modality child psychotherapists of the highest standards. With this in mind the organisation focused of creating, discussing, consulting on and, eventually, ratifying the following documents:

This has been an incredible year in which a huge amount of work went into preparing for the launch of the accreditation process for individual child psychotherapists.
We are looking forward to the next year when we will officially launch the Register of Child Psychotherapists, Students and Trainee Members as well as Co-opted Members and Honorary Members of CPC.

No financial activity took please during the first year of the Child Psychotherapy Council‘s registration as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation.
