manage them|Ascot Shed has been a member of the UK Men’s Sheds AssociaOon
since 2021 and follows their guidance relaOng to governance and
codes of conduct.
The single biggest risk to the charity is the potenOal loss of the
workshop space. The building is rented and space is generously
provided to Ascot Shed for free by the tenant. The security of that
tenancy is uncertain so we are seeking to obtain our own dedicated
premises or to secure a long lease afordably.|

set out in its governing document|To promote social inclusion for the public beneft by prevenOng people
parOcularly but not exclusively older men within Ascot and the
surrounding area, from becoming socially excluded, relieving the
needs of those people who are socially excluded and assisOng them to
integrate into society through the provision of faciliOes in which they
can meet jointly or individually to undertake creaOve, physical or
recreaOonal acOviOes, learn or pass on skills and knowledge and
support each other socially.
For the purpose of this clause 'socially excluded' means being
excluded from society, or parts of society, as a result of one or more of
the following factors: unemployment; fnancial hardship; youth or old
age; ill health (physical or mental).|

• contribuOon made by volunteers|Ascot Shed is almost enOrely run by its membership, with several
members volunteering many hours every week to provide supervisory
cover and key-holder responsibiliOes. Our members conOnue to build
out and upgrade the faciliOes, and also give tours to prospecOve
members visiOng for the frst Ome. Increasingly, training sessions are
being organised to provide opportuniOes for learning and skills
development; a magnanimous undertaking which is completely self-
driven and is a testament to the collaboraOve and supporOve
environment we have endeavoured to foster from day one.
The trustees are immensely grateful for the Ome, camaraderie and
compassion volunteered by these members, without whose
contribuOons we would not be able to grow the Shed’s capabiliOes and
extend a welcome to even more people.|

A highlight of the year was being featured on Channel 5 News, during
Mental Health Awareness Week. Royal Correspondent Simon Vigar did
an excellent job of summarising the benefts of joining a community
workshop, and made us feel proud of our achievements as a relaOvely
young Shed.
Membership signifcantly increased again this year, from 45 to 78.
In order to cope with growing interest we’ve implemented a waiOng
list, having found that new members integrate bejer when added a
few at a Ome. We’d like to welcome as many people as possible,
however it’s neither safe nor producOve when a substanOal number of
ajendees on a given day are completely new to the environment.
Our AGM was held in December, followed by what has become a
regular and popular feature we call a Shed Social, where members
come together to prepare food and eat together on a Saturday
anernoon (no workshop acOvity).
During the AGM, the monthly membership fee was retained at £5, the
four Trustees were reappointed and it was decided that we’d seek
addiOonal trustees from the membership next year, volunteers willing.
Ascot Shed received a number of generous donaOons from members
of the public, for which we are enormously grateful. £500 was donated
by the Audley FoundaOon, which is a charitable fund directed by
residents of Audley Sunningdale Park; a luxury reOrement village with
whom we’ve developed close Oes, exploring the idea of creaOng a
‘Senior Shed’ for less physically able Onkerers in their advanced years.
Since our foundaOon we’ve made a habit of visiOng neighbouring
Sheds because much can be learned from one-another. This was
formalised in early 2025, by Murray Law at Weybridge Men’s Shed,
into an iniOaOve called Surrey Area Sheds, incorporaOng several Sheds
in our geographic region to share resources and know-how.|

Reserves are retained to fund faciliOes maintenance and upgrade
expenditure, and for investments in specialist equipment.

suitable alternaOve site is secured.|

Expenditure on improvements to faciliOes has enhanced the
efecOveness of the work spaces, benefpng all current members and
boosOng our appeal to new ones.
We have begun replacing some of the donated tools with new ones,
bought with Shed funds, raising producOvity and unlocking higher
standards of workmanship. For such progress to keep pace with
gained experience, conOnual reinvestment in the equipment and
workspaces is required.|

## **Other op$onal informa$on**
Our primary focus is ensuring the long-term future of Ascot Shed so that it may conOnue to benefit those members of society that want a producOve space to Onker in and a sympatheOc community to socialise with. To that end we will be redoubling our efforts to secure a ‘forever home’ property in the vicinity of the exisOng site, potenOally with Parish or Borough Council assistance or from a philanthropic landowner. The possibility of having to pay rent in future may be compensated for by seeking financial assistance from Councils, chariOes and supporOve individuals, should the need arise.
