OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Objectives
The objectives of the Charity are to provide and maintain in the interests of social welfare, a swimming pool for the benefit of the inhabitants of Wiveliscombe and its vicinity, and of the public generally, without distinction of sex or of political, religious or other opinions, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said users.
Public benefit reporting
When reviewing the Charity’s objectives and activities and in planning future activities, the trustees have due regard to the Charity Commission's general guidance on public benefit. This was demonstrated in 2024, by the decision of the trustees of the Charity to keep the pool open in February & March to the public and during Autumn (up to the last day of September and October & November weekends), with the objective of continuing the benefits of outdoor swimming for existing and new swimmers.
Achievements and Performance of the Charity
Another busy year with lots of schools joining us at WiveyPool including Milverton, Five Rivers (Taunton), Kingsmead and Wivey Primary.
We successfully ran an overnight swim challenge simulating a Channel swim. Six teams entered from: Kingsmead, Taunton School (pupils and staff), Wellington and of course our lovely Wivey lifeguards – a phenomenal event that we hope to repeat in 2025.
Another NPLQ lifeguard course was run in July and Saturday mornings saw potential young lifeguards taking part in Rookie Lifeguard and National Life Saving Academy courses.
WaterPolo was a new and very popular event for adults and children with sessions occurring after school and at the weekend – we were delighted to host this event for such a wide range of ages and ability.

Maintenance:
We continue to run a cyclical preventative maintenance programme for all our plant, equipment, changing rooms and fencing. During 2023/24 we added an awning over the entrance to the pool for shelter during rain and sun and in the Autumn with the consent of adjoining land owner, we had the trees pruned on the west side of the pool; this will assist with reduced leaf drop and increased sun on the solar panels.
Fundraising
After a busy year fundraising in 2022/23 no large grants were sought during 2023/24. Nonetheless we were very grateful to receive donations from local groups including Co-Op and of course the phenomenal generosity of our Community.
FINANCIAL REVIEW
The detailed statement of financial activities showed that during the period of the accounts, the charity had an excess of income over expenditure of £45,218. At the end of the year there was £156,561 in the bank accounts.
Statement of Assets & Liabilities
At the year-end WiveyPool held no significant assets or liabilities.
Reserves Policy
The Charity continues monitoring its reserves policy agreed at the budget meeting for 2023/24.
FUTURE PLANS
During 2024 we concluded the legal documentation with the farmer at the rear of the pool (Mr. Shackleton) who gifted us the piece of land some of our solar panels sit on. And we started work with the Trustees of the Recreation Ground to get a lease of the derelict sheds at the rear of the car park with a view to developing them to include a toilet for all rec users and a ‘warm’ room for our swimmers and staff.
It is only with the help of external funding we can offer an extended season and more classes in 2025 for which we are very excited.
