Policy on grant making. Para 1.38 The principles which underpin the trustees’
governance of the Newfoundland Canine
Trust grant making process take into account
the scale and range of its grants and strike a
balance between proper oversight of
decision-making and responsive customer
service for both applicants and donors.

The Board of trustees has ultimate
collective responsibility for all grant-
making decisions in line with the
Newfoundland Canine Trust
charitable purposes and any
restrictions agreed with donors and
funding partners.

Trustees may assign certain
decision-making responsibilities to its
sub-committees, within its scheme of
delegation. Such delegated
decisions are subject to scrutiny and
review from time to time.

Trustees reserve the right to apply
conditions to any grant.

Trustees also reserve the right not to
approve any recommendation or
nomination if they (or those acting
with their delegated authority)
determine that the resulting grant
would not be charitable or would
conflict with the Newfoundland
Canine Trust stated policies or
damage its reputation.
Policy on social investment
including program related
investment.
Para 1.38 The charity understands it is important to
remember that whether or not a social
investment is being made is determined by
the motivation of the charity –
if the reasons for applying funds in a
particular way include both directly furthering
the charity’s purposes and making a financial
return then the proposed action will be a
social investment.
The definition is wide and may include some
actions which would not ordinarily be thought
of as investments.
The charity will look to develop a Social
Investment Policy in time, as required and
follow the Charity Commission guidelines.
Contribution made by
volunteers.
Para 1.38 The charity does not currently have any
volunteers. The Newfoundland Canine Trust
is committed to best practice in the
recruitment, support, and management of
volunteers. This policy covers volunteers
acting ‘on behalf of’ The Newfoundland
Canine Trust and it is underpinned by the
following principles:

The Newfoundland Canine Trust will
ensure that volunteers are properly
integrated into the organisational
structure.

The Newfoundland Canine Trust
expects that trustees and its staff
would work positively with volunteers
and, where appropriate, will actively
seek to involve them in their work.

The Newfoundland Canine Trust
recognises that volunteers require
satisfying work and will help
volunteers do their work effectively.
