**Our first scholarship student graduated**
**from University and went onto to get a**
**job in Saudi Arabia as a**
**Communications Manager. His success**
**has not only financially revolutionised**
**his and his family’s life but has also**
**instilled a (formerly absent) belief in the**
**shanty town that education is a**
**legitimate means of escaping poverty.**
**The availability of scholarships is**
**instilling hope and inspiring children to**
**study harder.**
**Eight service users won places at**
**University or Vocational college**
**The adventure camp was a wonderful**
**way for the teenagers to build**
**confidence, develop friendships and**
**make treasured memories. It was an**
**invaluable source of peer learning which**
**– for many of our service users - is the**
**most effective form of education. Both**
**volunteers and service users benefitted**
**greatly from the physical and mental**
**health benefits of a prolonged spell in**
**nature.**| **In the beggar Camps: The pavement schools are creating literacy in communities where the majority of adults sign documents – such as birth certificates - with a thumb print which prohibits them possessing “everyday” items such as a bank card and leaves them open to exploitation. The activities and games that we run alongside classes inspire joy, laughter and a commitment to learning. It is well documented that play (at all ages) is vital for positive wellbeing - a conclusion that our anecdotal evidence concurs wholeheartedly with. **as a charity – and a volunteer run one at**
**that - we had no specific fundraising**
**objectives.**
We managed to achieve everything we have
so far via face-to-face appeals and social
media campaigns targeted at friends and
family.
We were very fortunate to secure a promise
of 10lkh (approx. 9600 pounds) from an
Australian donor to be used to send a very
bright girl from the shanty town - to
medical school.
