The granting and removal of licences for Pastors of the Potters House Churches. 3. Authorising the winding up of Potters House Churches and helping them dispose of assets as appropriate. **THE POTTER’S HOUSE CHRISTIAN CENTRE SOUTH WALES** 4 ## **TRUSTEES' REPORT (continued) FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31ST AUGUST 2022** ## **Summary of Objectives set out in governing document** a) To advance the Christian faith in accordance with the statement of beliefs in Schedule 1 of the governing constitution document in South Wales and in such other parts of the United Kingdom and as the Church Council may from time to time think fit and other such purposes which are exclusively charitable according to the law of the UK and are connected with the charitable work of the charity; b) The relief of poverty and sickness and to relieve the distress caused thereby regardless of nationality, religious political or other opinion in South Wales and in such other parts of the United Kingdom and the world as the Church Council may from time to time think fit. ## **Summary of main objectives in Summary of main objectives in objects** We organised a child protection Wellbeing seminar for parents and church community. This helped to provide an understanding of aspects of concern that need to be noticed and authorities and contacts to be aware of. Women’s community drop in hub established targeting the lonely, elderly and young people, refugees and those who struggle with isolation in need friendship. Community free community concerts and drama performances, providing a platform for positive social affirmation and development of local talents. We organised a drama theatrical performance that communicated a message of hope and change for the local youth many of whom come from dysfunctional and broken families, and already have a reputation with the law. We held a series of community fun days with free activates and access for all which included. Bouncy castle Children’s talent show Serving free meals and refreshments. We also partnered with an American charity called Everlasting joy Foundation. We supplied free food shopping and clothing to the local community approx. over 100 people benefited from this event. Other community events we hosted were - Free movie and BBQ evenings with free meals provided. This has proven very crucial to the local community including refugees and asylum seekers. Marriage seminars for couples, providing guidance and advice. strengthen homes and providing practical know how. Young people’s meetings games and events and activities. Career guidance and advice. Men’s seminars in London. Affirming character building sessions and connecting with others to share life challenges and experiences. Public service meetings and conferences, themes of hope and faith. Annual Christmas and Summer Ball designed to provide a place of refuge, celebration and friendship to those who have no relational connections/the isolated/ lonely and vulnerable during the Christmas season. We also hosted a successful outreach for families in the community providng free gifts to children at our Santa’s Grotto. 5 **THE POTTER’S HOUSE CHRISTIAN CENTRE SOUTH WALES** ## **TRUSTEES' REPORT (continued) FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31ST AUGUST 2022** ## **Financial Review** Total incoming resources for the period were £29,972 of which £17,545 was Donations & Legacies, £568.00 was Investment income, £5,948 was Charitable Activities and other income £490. Bfwd funds was £829.00. Total resources expended were £30,354. Cfwd funds were £446. A full review of the financial position of the charity can be found on the attached financial statements. ## **Public Benefit** Trustees have paid due regard to the Charity Commission Guidance on 'Public Benefit' in deciding what activities the charity undertakes. All activities undertaken by the The Potter’s House Christian Centre South Wales are focused on our charitable purposes. ## **Going Concern** After making appropriate enquiries, the Trustees have a reasonable expectation that the charity has adequate resource to continue in operational existence for the foreseeable future. For this reason, they continue to adopt the going concern basis in preparing the financial statements. Further details regarding the adoption of the going concern basis can be found in the accounting policies. ## **Policy on reserves** The trustees have considered the level of reserves they wish to retain, appropriate to the charity needs. This is based on the charity’s size and the level of financial commitments held. The trustees aim to ensure the charity will be able to continue to fulfil its charitable objectives even if there is a temporary shortfall in income or unexpected expenditure. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (the Charities Act) and that an independent examination is needed. It is my responsibility to: - examine the accounts under section 145 of the Charities Act, - to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 145(5)(b) of the Charities Act, and - to state whether particular matters have come to my attention. ## **Basis of independent examiner’s statement** My examination was carried out in accordance with general directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair’ view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below. ## **Independent examiner's statement** In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention 1. which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in, any material respect, the requirements: - to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; and - to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting - requirements of the Charities Act have not been met; or 2. to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached. BASIS OF ACCOUNTING** The accounts have been prepared under the “Receipts and Payments” basis as prescribed by the Charity Commissioners, and they meet the appropriate legal requirements. The Charity meets the definition of a public benefit entity under FRS102. Assets and liabilities are initially recognised at historical cost unless otherwise stated in the relevant accounting policy notes. ## **Assessment of Going Concern** Preparation of the accounts is on a going concern basis. The trustees consider that there are no material uncertainties about the Charity's ability to continue as a going concern. ## **Fund Accounting** Funds held by the charity are either: 1. **Unrestricted Funds** - these are funds which can be used in accordance with the charity's objectives, at the discretion of the trustees. ## 2. **Designated funds** - These funds are funds set aside by the trustees out of unrestricted general funds for specific purposes or 3. **Restricted Funds** - these are funds that can only be used for particular restricted purposes within the objects of the charity. Further explanation of the nature and purpose of each fund is included in the notes to the financial statements. ## **Incoming Resources** All income is included in the accounts when actually received by the Charity. Voluntary help provided by friends of the charity is not included in a quantified way within the accounts. ## **Resources Expended** Resources expended are recognised when paid by the Charity. ## **2. TANGIBLE FIXED ASSETS** The Charity held no fixed assets investments during this or the previous financial period. RESTRICTED FUNDS** The Charity held no Restricted Funds during this or the previous financial period. ## **5. STAFF COSTS AND NUMBERS** The Charity employed no members of staff during this or the previous financial period. ## **6. TRUSTEES AND OTHER RELATED PARTIES** No payments were made to trustees or any persons connected with them during this financial period. No material transaction took place between the organisation and a trustee or any person connected with them. (2021 - None) ## **7. RISK ASSESSMENT** The Trustees actively review the major risks which the charity faces on a regular basis and believe that maintaining the free reserves stated combined with the annual review of the controls over key financial systems carried out on an annual basis will provide sufficient resources in the event of adverse conditions. The Trustees have also examined other operational and business risks which they face and confirm that they have established systems to mitigate **8. **objects**|We organised a child protection Wellbeing seminar for
parents and church community. This helped to provide an
understanding of aspects of concern that need to be
noticed and authorities and contacts to be aware of.
Women’s community drop in hub established targeting the
lonely, elderly and young people, refugees and those who
struggle with isolation in need friendship.
Community free community concerts and drama
performances, providing a platform for positive social
affirmation and development of local talents.
We organised a drama theatrical performance that
communicated a message of hope and change for the
local youth many of whom come from dysfunctional and
broken families, and already have a reputation with the
law.
We held a series of community fun days with free activates
and access for all which included.

Serving free meals and refreshments.
We also partnered with an American charity called
Everlasting joy Foundation. We supplied free food
shopping and clothing to the local community approx. over
100 people benefited from this event.

Other community events we hosted were -
free movie and BBQ evenings with free meals provided.
This has proven very crucial to the local community
including refugees and asylum seekers.
Marriage seminars for couples, providing guidance and
advice. strengthen homes and providing practical know

Career guidance and advice.
Men’s seminars in London. Affirming character building
sessions and connecting with others to share life
challenges and experiences.
Public service meetings and conferences, themes of hope
and faith.
Annual Christmas and Summer Ball designed to provide a
place of refuge, celebration and friendship to those who
have no relational connections/the isolated/ lonely and
vulnerable during the Christmas season.
We also hosted a successful outreach for families in the
community providng free gifts to children at our Santa’s
Grotto.| |---|---| |**Financial review**|Total incoming resources for the period were £29,482 of
which £22,966 was Donations & Legacies, £568.00 was
Investment income and £5,948 was Charitable Activities
B/FWD £446.00. Total resources expended were £22,966
of which £17,545 was unrestricted expenditure and £5,421
was Gift aid Tax recovered, Bank interest £568.00. A full
review of the financial position of the charity can be found
on the attached financial statements.| |**Public Benefit**|Trustees have paid due regard to the Charity Commission
Guidance on 'Public Benefit' in deciding what activities the
charity undertakes. All activities undertaken by the Potters
House Christian Centre South Wales are focussed on our
charitable purposes.| |**Going Concern**|After making appropriate enquiries, the Trustees have a
reasonable expectation that the charity has adequate
resource to continue in operational existence for the
foreseeable future. For this reason, they continue to adopt
the going concern basis in preparing the financial
statements. Further details regarding the adoption of the
going concern basis can be found in the accounting
policies.| |**Policy on**
**reserves**|The trustees have considered the level of reserves they
wish to retain, appropriate to the charity needs. This is
based on the charity’s size and the level of financial
commitments held. The trustees aim to ensure the charity
will be able to continue to fulfil its charitable objectives
even if there is a temporary shortfall in income or
unexpected expenditure. The trustees will endeavour not
