Report of the Trustees for the year ended 31 March 2024
The Trustees have pleasure in submitting their annual report together with the unaudited accounts of the charity for the year ended 31 March 2024.
Administration Details
Structure, Governance and Management
Crimson Cord Ministries is a charitable incorporated organisation which was registered on 29[th] September 2021.
The head office is in Corbridge, Northumberland.
The Trustees meet at least four times in each year and deal with the administration of the charity overseeing financial accountability, risk management and any other administrative business. The operational management of the organisation is also undertaken by the Trustees and volunteers since it is newly formed and there are weekly calls between the Trustees regarding our ongoing support to the needy.
Objectives and Activities
The objectives of Crimson Cord Ministries are, for the public benefit, the promotion of the Christian acts by, but not limited to, relieving, either generally or individually, persons who are in immediate need or assistance due to being in danger or exposed to harm of health or at risk: physically, mental/emotional/sexually and who are in conditions of need, hardship or distress. Supporting men, women (in particular) and vulnerable children in U.K. and also international as we grow.
Activity has been on a small scale due to Crimson Cord Ministries having limited funds and manpower but we hope that in 2024 we will attract donors/donations to increase our impact on the public benefit. Currently, Trustees Kathleen Bullock and Rachel Gott have been the main charity donors giving out of their own private funds, going forward we hope to start promoting the charity and seeking other donors which will increase our activity and our compliance to its goals.
We continue to issue small funds /grants to individuals and charity status organisations. In addition to offering financial support, Crimson Cord Ministries has a goal to raise enough funds to purchase or purpose-build ‘safe houses’ across U.K. offering short-term accommodation to individuals and families who are in danger and need immediate sanctuary. We would also like to look into being a potential asylum provider for international asylum seekers and will be researching how this works with the UK government.
Public Benefit Statements
The Trustees have had regard to the Charity Commission’s guidance on their legal duty on public benefit and are satisfied that that the Charity delivers public benefit; due regard is paid to the guidance on public benefit when deciding on what new projects the charity should undertake.
Policy on Grant Making
The Trustees decide to whom it will provide grants taking into consideration the following:
-
If the person is in immediate need of funds
-
If they are in danger of domestic abuse, physical harm, mental abuse or sexual harm/exploitation
The Trustees will assess each case individually as to whether a grant application will be successful.

Achievements and Performance
CCM is still at an early stage in the charity’s journey but it continues to make small donations that make a significant difference to a number of charities and individuals. The Trustees are occupied in full-time work so their time is limited.
As anti-semitism is on the rapid rise particularly since the 7[th] October Hamas terrorist attack which saw the taking of innocent Israelis lives and hostage-taking. And now with the Jewish counterattack/Gaza bombardment response to wipe out Hamas, Palestinian lives are getting caught-up and being lost in consequence. This is having a negative impact on Jewish people with a number of hate marches that seek to villainise all Jews). Many Jews do not feel safe in London now. CCM firmly stands with and continues to support Israel. CCM has given donations to: International Fellowship of Jews and Christians and going into 2024 - should funds allow - we will step-up our giving with other on-the-ground organisations to give relief to anyone suffering because of the war in that region. Crimson Cord continues to commit its financial help to vulnerable individuals such as the young Christian Ethiopian women called Mekdes Mekonnen and her small child Novah; whom we have aided since our charity’s start. Mekdes has asked for ongoing help as she hasn’t coped well mentally and doesn’t know what she would do without the financial support that Crimson Cord gives. She is trying to improve her English language skills so that she can communicate her situation and well-being from time to time via email. Monthly, we help with her living expenses to pay her rent and day to day living costs. Due to her life being in danger due to the current war in Ethiopia she may seek asylum in U.K.; if she decides to apply to our Government for Asylum we will look to support her in U.K. outside of what our government may assist her with.
With its new website annually re-purchased, we will be building our brand exposure to communicate our aims and hopefully gain support from volunteers and donors. CCM operates from a small office in Corbridge Northumberland where it will be expanding to include a management team to assist in the day to day running of the charity.

Financial review
Income during the year amounted to £3,273.81 and was largely derived from donations received for the Trustees.
Expenditure amounted to £4,729.69 for the year and was largely attributable to grants paid to those in need.
Charity’s Reserves
The charity holds reserve funds with Lloyds Bank.
Charity’s Principal Source of Funds
The Trustees have been donating small amounts during 2023 however we will be actively starting to promote the charity in mid 2023 and hope to have more donors and successful grant applications with more established charities.
Principal Risks
The Trustees are currently time poor and need to recruit more people to enable the charity to reach its goals.
Induction, Training and Recruitment of Trustees
Founder Rachel Gott has much experience in recruitment having worked at senior level in a manning provider business.
Our methods of selection are based upon the needs of the organisation and experience that individual can bring to the table.
For our reference and guideline, the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA) and the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) produce model role descriptions for charity trustees. Which have been referred to as a guide when selecting our 3 Trustees and will be used in the future when we recruit new trustees.
ICSA also produces role descriptions which are specifically for chairs, secretaries and treasurers of charities. The National Occupational Standards for Trustees and Management Committee members can also be a useful tool for drawing up a job description, which we will use as a guideline when needed.
Overview of recruitment process:
-
Post job on website and online job sites if required (eg Linkedin)
-
Applications received/initial screening
-
Review CV/work experience in detail to see if they match against job description
-
Assess if candidate will have a certain commitment level to Crimson Cord Ministries
-

Current Trustees
Both Amanda Taylor and Rachel Gott have worked in charitable Christian international organisations. Amanda Taylor has prior accounting work experience and Rachel Gott has worked as an administrator for a church in Orlando and Hope House, Sunderland previously. Kathleen has excellent administrative experience having worked at senior level in a global recruitment organisation doing payroll and bookkeeping/accounting. She has worked with many diverse organisations and is multi-talented, with a skill-set ideal for Crimson Cord Ministries. All three Trustees are Christian and have a compassionate nature to help people.
A diverse board is more likely to contain a broader range of skills, knowledge and experience than one which is more narrowly based. When preparing to recruit new trustees, Crimson Cord Ministries will seek to increase or at least maintain the diversity of its trustee board.
All Trustees were interviewed by founder and have worked with and known for many years. Each Trustee understands our policies on Child protection and working with the vulnerable young/adults. To ensure this: Staff Awareness : All staff are made aware of this policy as part of their initial induction process and there will be regular briefings and updates for all staff. Where necessary or possible, staff will be encouraged to attend appropriate training courses.
Reviewing the Policy and Procedure: The policy and procedure will be reviewed every year, this will include checking telephone numbers, accuracy of personnel details, and any updates required by a change in local or national policy.
Ongoing training or bring expertise in will looked at reflecting the needs of the charity. It may be we need to hire counsellors in the future for example.
Statement of the Trustees Responsibilities
The Trustees declare that they have approved the trustees report above.
