## **Report of the Trustees for the period ended 31 March 2022**

The Trustees have pleasure in submitting their annual report together with the unaudited accounts of the charity for the period ended 31 March 2022.

## **Administration Details**

## **Structure, Governance and Management**

Crimson Cord Ministries is a charitable incorporated organisation which was registered on 29[th] September 2021.

The head office is in Corbridge, Northumberland.

The Trustees meet at least four times in each year and deal with the administration of the charity overseeing financial accountability, risk management and any other administrative business. The operational management of the organisation is also undertaken by the Trustees and volunteers since it is newly formed and there are weekly calls between the Trustees regarding our ongoing support to the needy.

## **Objectives and Activities**

The objectives of Crimson Cord Ministries are, for the public benefit, the promotion of the Christian religion by, but not limited to, relieving, either generally or individually, persons who are in immediate need or assistance due to being in danger or exposed to harm of health or at risk: physically, mental/emotional/sexually and who are in conditions of need, hardship or distress. Supporting men, women (in particular) and vulnerable children in U.K. and also international as we grow.

Activity has been on a small scale due to Crimson Cord Ministries having limited funds and manpower but we hope that in 2023 we will attract donors/donations to increase our impact on the public benefit. Currently, Trustees Kathleen Bullock and Rachel Gott have been the main charity donors giving out of their own private funds, going forward we hope to start promoting the charity and seeking other donors which will increase our activity and our compliance to its goals.

Initially we were issuing small funding /grants to individuals and charity status organisations. In addition to offering financial support, Crimson Cord Ministries has a goal to raise enough funds to purchase or purpose-build ‘safe houses’ across U.K. offering short-term accommodation to individuals and families who are in danger and need immediate sanctuary. We would also like to look into being a potential asylum provider for international asylum seekers and will be researching how this works with the UK government.

## **Public Benefit Statements**

The Trustees have had regard to the Charity Commission’s guidance on their legal duty on public benefit and are satisfied that that the Charity delivers public benefit; due regard is paid to the guidance on public benefit when deciding on what new projects the charity should undertake.

## **Policy on Grant Making**

The Trustees decide to whom it will provide grants taking into consideration the following:

- If the person is in immediate need of funds

- If they are in danger of domestic abuse, physical harm, mental abuse or sexual harm/exploitation

The Trustees will assess each case individually as to whether a grant application will be successful.

## **Achievements and Performance**

We are at a very early stage in the charity’s journey and yet we have made a significant difference in the life in a number of charities and individuals. The Trustees are occupied in full-time work so their time is limited but they are hoping to dedicate more time from June 2023 and grow the administrative team when funds allow or volunteers join Crimson Cord Ministries.

True to Crimson Cord Ministries aims we have supported a local charity called Hope Spring that helps young impoverished and very vulnerable single mothers with residential homes. These young women may also have very bad home situations where physical/mental abuse is occurring. Aside from creating residential homes and helping with feeding and clothing of people in its care, the charity does many great initiatives such as Christmas toy/hampers for the poor who can’t afford gifts for their children. We will likely continue to support this charity in the long-term as it has synergies with our vision to help vulnerable young women who are at risk.

We have also given support to elderly impoverished Jews who escaped the Holocaust with donations given to: International Fellowship of Jews and Christians. As part of Christian religion we are encouraged to help all mankind but in particular to aid Israel and our Jewish brothers and sisters.

Individual support has been given to a young Christian Ethiopian women called Mekdes Mekonnen who had been abandoned by the father of her soon-to be-born child, Novah. She was heavily pregnant when Trustee Rachel Gott first set eyes upon her via Watsapp. Her mother had recently died and she had no other living relative other than a distant uncle. Mekdes was destitute and appealed over the phone having contacted Renouvoo a mental health provider whom Rachel Gott was working for on a freelance basis at that time (See www.renouvoo.com). Mekdes asked for help as she wasn’t coping mentally, she asked for no money just mental help as she thought she would die as she had no one to help her. Her English was not very good but using Watsapp and a translator Rachel Gott let her know that Renouvoo was not a charity and she would have to pay via skype to get assistance from one of the psychotherapists. She relayed she had no money to pay – I relayed that Crimson Cord Ministries was forming as a charity and that we may be able to assist her with a small but regular charitable donation. We have since then supported Mekdes Mekkonen and her daughter with numerous financial aid such as hospital expenses for the birth of her child and hospital bills for when her child caught Covid. Monthly, we help with her living expenses to pay her rent and day to day living costs. Due to her life being in danger due to the current war in Ethiopia she may seek Asylum in U.K. but for now we will assist her financially on a monthly basis until she is able to work herself independently when the child is able to go to school in Ethiopia (if the war does not prevent her to work). If she decides to apply to our Government for Asylum we will look to support her in U.K. outside of what our government may assist her with.

We are going into the launch phase of the charity to try and benefit the public and we hope to garner support through website launch and various campaigns to encourage donors and grants from other charities. We will be building our brand exposure to communicate our aims and hopefully gain support from volunteers and donors. We also will be expanding to include a management team to assist in the day to day running of the charity.

We have set out to help mainly women and children and we have started to do this with very limited funds and resources as well as the fact we have not done any fund campaigning yet due to time constraints of the Trustees. A much more detailed programme of objectives will be created from June/July 2023 when Trustees daily workload is lessened (as they currently have independent day jobs and can only allocate limited time to Crimson Cord Ministries), ideally with a newly formed management team to assist in the goal-setting, and execution of the objectives duties/administrations.

## **Financial review**

Income during the year amounted to £8,306 and was largely derived from donations received for the Trustees.

Expenditure amounted to £3,114 for the year and was largely attributable to grants paid to those in need.

## **Charity’s Reserves**

The charity holds reserve funds with Barclays Bank PLC and Lloyds Bank.

## **Charity’s Principal Source of Funds**

The Trustees have been donating small amounts during 2022 however we will be actively starting to promote the charity in mid 2023 and hope to have more donors and successful grant applications with more established charities.

## **Principal Risks**

The Trustees are currently time poor and need to recruit more people to enable the charity to reach its goals.

## **Induction, Training and Recruitment of Trustees**

Founder Rachel Gott has much experience in recruitment having worked at senior level in a manning provider business.

Our methods of selection are based upon the needs of the organisation and experience that individual can bring to the table.

For our reference and guideline, the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA) and the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) produce model role descriptions for charity trustees. _Which have been referred to as a guide when selecting our 3 Trustees and will be used in the future when we recruit new trustees._

ICSA also produces role descriptions which are specifically for chairs, secretaries and treasurers of charities. The National Occupational Standards for Trustees and Management Committee members can also be a useful tool for drawing up a job description, which we will use as a guideline when needed.

Overview of recruitment process:

- Post job on website and online job sites if required (eg Linkedin)

- Applications received/initial screening

- Review CV/work experience in detail to see if they match against job description

- Assess if candidate will have a certain commitment level to Crimson Cord Ministries

- We telephone to discuss role, and issue job description

- Interview either face to face or Zoom

- References checked, DBS verified

- Appointed

- Induction and policy /training

## **Current Trustees**

Both Amanda Taylor and Rachel Gott have worked in charitable Christian international organisations. Amanda Taylor has prior accounting work experience and is currently a PA for an international charity Purifying Fire (Suzanne Hinn) and Rachel Gott has worked as an administrator for a church in Orlando and Hope House, Sunderland previously. Kathleen has excellent administrative experience having worked at senior level in a global recruitment organisation doing payroll and bookkeeping/accounting. She has worked with many diverse organisations and is multi-talented, with a skill-set ideal for Crimson Cord Ministries. All three Trustees are Christian and have a compassionate nature to help people.

A diverse board is more likely to contain a broader range of skills, knowledge and experience than one which is more narrowly based. _When preparing to recruit new trustees, Crimson Cord Ministries will seek to increase or at least maintain the diversity of its trustee board._

All Trustees were interviewed by founder and have worked with and known for many years. Each Trustee understands our policies on Child protection and working with the vulnerable young/adults. To ensure this: Staff Awareness : All staff are made aware of this policy as part of their initial induction process and there will be regular briefings and updates for all staff. Where necessary or possible, staff will be encouraged to attend appropriate training courses.

Reviewing the Policy and Procedure: The policy and procedure will be reviewed every year, this will include checking telephone numbers, accuracy of personnel details, and any updates required by a change in local or national policy.

Ongoing training or bring expertise in will looked at reflecting the needs of the charity. It may be we need to hire counsellors in the future for example.
