Structure, Governance and Management

Miss Michelle Atherton Founder and Chairlady has been chairing throughout the charity’s registration, along with vice chair Pauline Hernen, Secretary Mark Spragg and Business Manager David Bannister. Keith Carter has now taken over as Treasurer

due to ongoing health problems with Mr James family member and so he has had other commitments and had to take a step back from kindness counts uk but is still very much a supporter and comes to events as and when he can.

We also have other member and volunteers who we could not manage without who help with the running of fundraising and crafting, crocheting, and knitting of merchandise for events.

When we are approached by members of the public who show an interest of becoming a member of our charity they are put forward to the board, and then an induction period. Where our charity policy is given along with uniform and ID badge, if they attend regular meeting which is one of the required policy then a further board meeting would take place in the induction period if they show an interest in becoming trustees. This is when a charity commission pack would be given and signed.

We will have a AGM on a yearly basis where if necessary position are to change this will be done and new trustees brought in this ensures smooth running of the charity, however if this is not needed the board we carry on with the same positions if the board unanimously agreed.

The day to day running of the charity is carried out by the board then passed down regularly to the other trustees and volunteers. We do not have anyone at kindness counts uk that draws a wage from the charity we all do the work totally voluntary.

Volunteers

Without our dedicated team of volunteers, the organisation simply could not exist. They provide support across all areas of kindness counts uk in fundraising, crafting collection tin s and recycling.

Review of Risks

The broad along with Mrs Alison Major our Safe Guarding Officer review any new risks that may present themselves both within events and the day to day running of the charity itself, if any risk is identified and cannot be rectified immediately a board

meeting will be called and measure put into place with any given situation halted until our safe guarding officer is satisfied all policies and procedure are adhered too.

Objectives and activities

This is what we have set out within our governing document.

The charity’s 3 year business plan is to translate these objectives into a vision that become reality, along with going further with public request which are:-

At resent Kindness Counts Uk provide Friendship buddy benches, stop and Chat benches, Team building benches to Ofsted registered schools all these benches are engraved with kind words of the childrens choice, usually decided by youth champion chosen by the school. We also receive grant request for Lego therapy indoor and outdoor kindness plaque and sunshine’s, large team building planters, school uniforms, sports equipment the list is endless.

We are in regular contact with our schools so that we know as much as we are able that our resources are being used to the

best possible outcome and that our youth champion can see that if they need more from us we are there to help and provide the funding for resources as soon as physically possible and they become available to us.

This is done through emails, telephone conversation with their pastoral leads and managers as well as meeting up with our youth champions at all our fundraising events.

We have between 3 and 6 youth champions in every school that have resources from us and two schools that require resources from us have requested that they call their champion mental health champion because of the nature of that particular school, which we entirely agree with. These two schools we help are for children that can’t settle into main stream school for various reasons. They have had numerous resources from us up to now and is ongoing.

The school and public benefits have spoken for them themselves in this last year and has been very heart-warming for us as trustees, the overwhelming support of turnout to our Coop and Aldi supermarket ceremonies of our recognition and reward for kind acts within schools and the community ‘The Promoting Kindness Big Red Post Box recognition & Reward system where over 40 parents and children came to collect their awards was amazing.

we book the mayor for these events. We now have the support of 5 supermarkets now with these kindness ceremonies.

We have also received excellent feedback through our social medial in testimonies from teachers and parents, along with thank you’s for our resources and members of the public stopping us saying how much we are needed in the community, along with the support from the supermarket managers like Kevin at the Coop in Thornton Village where we are based, and manager Mark at Aldi supermarket in Poulton le Fylde .

’ s Contributions Made By Volunteer

We have a voluntary crochet circle and crafting group of ladies who make comfort teddies for our vulnerable children within our schools as well as merchandise for fundraising events, sometimes these products have been requested for children to carry around in their pockets and in one of our schools it was requested a larger bear for a child who was not able to sleep so our ladies made this one with its kindness counts uk T shirt onto it but also put the child’s name onto it too, so she could undress it if she wanted ready for bedtime and sleep with it.

As well as these ladies, we have many volunteers that help with our fundraising event.

Summary Of The Main Achievements Of The Charity, Identifying The Diference The Charity Work Has Made To Circumstances Of Its Benefciaries And Any Wider Benefts To Society As A Whole

Although we are a young charity we have now got over 20 youth champions within our schools, these children are the schools and KCUK’s eyes and ears while working very closely with their pastoral leads. They keep a close eye out for vulnerable children as well as working with other children and their peers in gathering ideas of what other resources may work best for the children within their school.

We have found that youth champions are growing in confidence as they come together through events and parades /workshop in school and in one instance this September one of our youth champions that became anxious of moving to secondary school not of his choosing was actually quite happy when he learnt that two of our youth champion he had met on events where already there waiting to greet him and that he could carry on with his youth champion from primary school.

Achievements Against Objectives Set

We have surpassed our objectives and obtained more support than we thought in such a short space of time we never thought that in our first year we would be able to bring 6 schools together under one roof with 21 youth champions in a kindness anti bullying workshop, it was a fantastic success where all the teachers and children shared anti bullying ideas and requested further resources from us as well as one school wanting 4 more youth champions and uniforms for their school (Gateway Academy)

As well as this system of promoting kindness throughout our schools and community we also have our Stop and Chat Bench, our Be Kind Not Unkind Bench, and our Building friendships Bench all of which the children make their own wording of engravements to go onto their requested resources. We have suppliers who provide indoor and outdoor signs as well as kindness whiteboard shaped like sun shines for us too, Lego therapy and school uniforms and sports equipment all of these have to go through what we call our grant request forms for funding which then goes to the board of trustees,

Performance Of Fundraising Activities Against Objectives Set

The whole community have embraced kindness counts uk saying there is a great need for it, all trustees and volunteers have work really hard this year and the accounts reflect this has we have not just been able to provide the resources requested from us but also build upon the awareness equipment like the PowerPoint, Microphone and speaker in order for our youth champion to run the street collection and talks within their communities and take along one of their buddy benches and other resources too. speeches about kindness counts and what they do in parades and events and what a different we have made to their confidence while in school.

Investment Performance Against Objectives

we have not applied for any investment as yet, we are not at that stage as we have in this first year been concentrating on building up our awareness, our schools and youth champions base in order that we know what exactly is needed both in schools and the community from kindness counts uk. The General public at the moment keep asking us to get base/hub in order that they can call in and contact us more easily and this has also been mentioned within school as well as supermarkets, however this is in the future, but something we are investigating as to where the right location would be for maximum benefit to schools and community in providing the resources they need, as well as maximum reduction of bullying with resources through our funding grants made available.

We are pleased with our position fundraising has gone really well despite covid still being an ongoing illness problem and we finished the year on a small plus side.

We have collection tins within local businesses, as well as recycling buckets.

We run a Saturday night lottery bonus ball and have a licence to do so from Wyre licence team SL019.

We are regularly fundraising.

Schools do competitions and have non uniform day for us.

How Is The Charity Constituted

We have regular board meeting which are documented, these are then filtered down to all our members and volunteers we then will be having our AGM at the end of the year for any changes to be implemented and new trustees put into positions if needed

Michelle and the board recruit new trustees and volunteers if and when they are needed as well as kindness counts uk being approached by the general public to become members, once a new trustee/volunteer has shown an interest in joining the team the board meet and decide together or if in covid situation it would be carried out over our chat page. Once a decision has been made they will be presented with charity commission pack as well as kindness counts policy and procedure pack explained and signed, uniform and ID badges given with the next meeting date given.

All members are required to attend regular meetings and always when carrying our kindness charity work to be working to policy and procedure and wearing uniform and ID badge.

Achievements This Year

Our schools have fully embraced the help we are giving them and the resources they are receiving, from the indoor clicker frame kindness saying on the back of bathroom doors In high school and on the corridors as gentle reminders that it’s nice to be kind and you don’t know what that other child is going through today.

Summarisation

We feel we have achieved a great deal in a short space of time, both in our local community, schools and the fantastic support we are receiving through local businesses. Our social media platform community is growing daily with our kindness weekly quotes put out every Monday morning along with regular kindness updates throughout the week of which schools are being provided with resources.

We have identified the need for our post boxes for kind acts within schools and supermarkets, helping teachers and communities to reduces bullying along with this now spilling into anti-social behaviour onto our streets within our communities.

We feel bringing schools, communities and businesses together as one supporting each other is the way forward to making a stronger nicer community, with this impacting on our younger

generations to come becoming more supported and cared for by everyone in their particular community.

Our kindness safe place hub will be a place within the centre of Thornton village on the main bus route number 74, which brings most main schools through in order to achieve maximum access for our children that need us.

Whilst also being able to bring local charity’s together has our youth champions and children within our community can collect the items local charity need bring them to the hub placing them into the bucket under the relevant poster to that charity and our trustee can delivery to the said charity or they can collect it from the hub when the bucket is full.

The hub will also house crafting and other activities for the younger generations along with counselling facilities

However this is this under investigation and will need charity commission on board with us to update any changes that may be neede if and when they may or may be occur.
