## FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2023 

## OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES 

The main objective of the Charity is to promote, advance and improve for the benefit of the public, agriculture, horticulture and rural crafts and skills by the demonstration and showing of livestock, machinery, crafts, products, methods and processes connected with agriculture and agricultural education in particular by the holding of annual agricultural and equestrian shows. 

## ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE 

Gilsland Agricultural Society were unable to hold an agricultural show during the summer of 2023 as a result of prolonged wet weather. A fundraising event was held to ensure costs incurred during the year could be met. 

## FINANCIAL REVIEW 

The Charity made a surplus during the year as a result of a fundraising event. 

The reserve policy of the Charity is to hold sufficient funds to ensure the organisation could continue, should it, for two years running, have to cancel annual shows "on the day" due to unforeseen circumstances.  It is estimated the cost of doing so would be in the region of £10,000 and hence the Charity is comfortable in holding reserves of £23,308
