After a challcnging prcvious year. 202>2024 has been a period of Cor￿lidation for the debt
service side of ihe charity. Followin8 the succe55ful bid for funding from Westmorland and
Fume55 Council'5 Money Advice Outreach Fund, tht Charity began the additional sÈ￿•cO of
nlnning Molley Courses designed by CAP and employing a new member of staff to rnana8e

Our Oebt Centre Manager Paul Robinson has been in p05t since August 2023. DurinE the
year he has seen 18 clierrts. 2 of whom have becomc debr free wirh ono further dient athin8
on a plan to become debt free. Although Ihe need for help with debt is very evident in many
communitios auoss our region, the￿ ￿MainS a Significant challenEe in per5uadine
individuals to sti¢k with the proces5 until it5 conclusion. It rs only then that 3 plan is created
and irDplemented to allow thern to become debt-free. We have found that in the last year
just under 40% of dierrt5 who have been visited initially continue to complote a sÈcond visit.
There are marry difftrent roasons for this. but it remains a challe￿e for the Debl Centre
Mana8er and Trustees to improve upon 80in8 forward.

WÈ continue to strtve to reach 2 new clicnts per month. Our dients are refcrrcd to us from
Manna House. Neighbovrhood Chaplains. The Well Community. Carers Support South Lakes.
Doctor Surgeries and other agenoes. It is often the case that many of the clients we see
nèèd additional support from other wofessional and third sector organisations. This is why
developin8 Partnerships is so important to us . both on a discipleship level wÈth local
thurches and vlith other professional a8enciÈS as we try to address the tomplex netds that
somc of our clients have.
Money C￿lSe
Thts year we secured funding from the We5tTnorlaTrd and Fumess Council's Money Advice
0￿￿0th Fund in order to offer CAP Money Courses. Initial￿ for a period of 12 month5. This
is very synergi5ti¢ With our CO￿ ￿ of helping people once they are in debt. Using the
Money Course. designed by CAP. and other li8hter-touth resources. we can help people
avoid getting into financial difficulties in the first place. We employed Laura Kirkham in ApAI
who is our Money Advice Project Manager. Since starting Laura has been offering a mix of
Open Courses (member5 of the public sign up and meet wtth Laura in pefson or online over
a pcriod of 4 sessions), Be5Fx)ke Courses lafi or8aniSation invitÈs Laura in). and Li8htef Touch
sessior*s (which may bc a single session). From April to September. in total % people have
been given Some kind of monÈy educarion and support through thts project Laura ha5
already secured cornmitTnents to work in local secondary schools, whith will rcach young
people at Key Stage 4 and beyond.
Other attJvlt6es
Both Paul (Ind Laura have spent time ￿lIdIng Up their networks of or8anisations and
individua15 who will be influential in encouraging dients to come forward for debt help and
money course attendance. We used some of the zrant rnon￿ for the Money Advice
Project to market the servKe acro55 the whole ol Kendal and t)istfiCL
The charity ha5 continued lo receive financial support from three main sources: personal
donations- including regular 8ivin& partner churchcs and grants. Sincc our last report a
further three grants have been received helpin8 to provide m(Ye certainty around our abiliiy
to prr)yide this very important ￿rViCe in future years.
In all our activiDes, the trustees have had re8ard to the guidance issued by the Charity
C¢mrftission on the public benefits of a thèrity.
Voluntoèrs
We are aware that mainLiining a motivated Fx)ol of volunteers to support the work of the
Debt Centre 15 ¢ruoal. At thc end of September 2024. we had 10 volunteeTS whosÈ role is to
accompany Paul on client visits. Somc ot these also act as 'befriendeT5' to cement the
ongoing relationship with clients and to Èncourage them in following through wrth the
agreed debt fepaymcnt plans. We are mindhjl of the ne￿ to secure morc betrienders to get
alongside clients. and lo holp them to go debt free. We maintsin a group of sUPPOrtÈfS:
some have offered prdrtical help and some have offered prayer 5UPPOrt and are ccwnmitted

to pray for the charity on an on-80in8 ba515. We are very 8r*eful fpr the commitment and
