International Play Association
Trustees Annual Report for year ending 31[st] December 2024
Our IPA World council, representing each of the 17 countries with membership of more than 10 people or organisations, met quarterly in 2024 and in June we welcomed Thailand as a new country representative to our world council and have been working with Korea and Ireland to also develop branches and join the World council
IPA World endeavoured in 2024 to refine our procedures and governance structures. Following consultation with our country representatives we endorsed a new comprehensive complaints policy, a member’s code of conduct and an Editorial Board for our Playright Magazine.
Our social media following in 2024 increased by 45%. Our members webinar series continued in 2024 ,with 4 free webinars held for members and added three new recorded webinar sessions on our You Tube channel for free distribution across the world. in December, we released the IPA PlayRights magazine, which was the culmination of the work of an editorial committee drawn from representatives from 8 countries. This publication was distributed free online and attracted exceptionally positive feedback.
IPA World in 2024 contributed to a global coalition meeting in February for the UN Day of Play, this built on a 2023 IPA Conference resolution to advocate for a UN Day of Play. In 2024, we also participated in an international collaboration to review a new international statement of Outdoor Play, meeting with coalition reps in Korea in December.
A highlight of the year was the culmination of our advocacy for a Day of Play, with the declaration in March of June 11 as the annual UN Day of Play. The first UN Day of Play was celebrated in 2024, across the globe and IPA produced a range of resources for members and undertook social media engagements to promote the day including the global release of a free webinar on the benefits of risky play.
