To provide or assist in the
provision of facilities in the
interests of social welfare for
play, recreation or other leisure
time occupation of children
throughout the world who have
need of such facilities by
reason of their youth, disability,
financial hardship or social
circumstances with the object
of improving their conditions of

IPA’s purpose is to protect, preserve and
promote the child’s right to play as a
fundamental human right.
IPA operates a membership scheme. This
year time has been focussed on ensuring
the new is CIO is sufficiently provided with
systems and policies to enable it to be fit for
its purpose.
We have engaged with our members and
other NGOs internationally to ensure that
children’s need to play is better understood
and provided for

will contribute to the aims and objectives

right to play endeavouring to raise its
profile in the work of other agencies and
NGO’s.
During the past period IPA World Board
has advocated and promoted Article 31
and General Comment 17 across a range
of international events and conferences
maintaining a presence for IPA World both
through physical attendance and online.
We have continued to provide an on line
magazine.
2023 was a successful year for IPA World
with record membership and engagement
and we welcomed the formation of a new
branch in the Ukraine.
The highlight of our work in 2023 was the
22ndIPA World triennial conference held in
Glasgow, Scotland. 550 people attended
from 41 countries which attracted
international and local media coverage. In
addition to the conference IPA World held
international awards attracting 28
nominations for innovation in delivery of
play and play spaces.
We continued to work with our global
membership providing access to 8 free
webinars throughout the year featuring
speakers from across the world
showcasing our mission to protect,
preserve and promote the child’s right to
play.
In 2023 IPA World also commenced work
on creating greater engagement with
members through the creation of interest
groups in specific fields of adventure
playgrounds and another in planning and
design. Our work in advocacy was
highlighted with the passing of a
unanimous motion at the World conference
to advocate for a UN World Day of Play.
IPA World in response has joined a global
coalition of NGO’s and corporations to
advocate for the day and this work will
