March 2012

In planning our activttres for the year, we kept in mind the Ch8rÉty Commission's
guidance on publie benefrt at our truste8s meetings.
The main activf(ies are Crisis Requests, Holiday Hunger Campaign & Christmas
Hamper Campalgn.
Our Crisis Request referrals rLJn thr(>ughout the year and demand is increasing
year on year as we bec0rn8 known to more organisatiorTrs. W& a￿apt referTrls
from prolessionals working wth the most vulnerable in our area and offer support
to ihos8 in crisis due lo their personal ciicutllstances. This could be due to
circumstanc85 such as a bereavamènt, a relationship breakdown, unemplc>yment.
domestic violence etc. Our main support is beds, bedding and food bul is not
limilgd. Our tsod campalgn wnlinues to grow and wa have had support from the
community t(> provide rnuch needed beds and bedding. The importance of a clean
and Comfortable place to sleep cannot be understated. Sleep is vital lor
Fnainlaining good mental and physical heatth and helps to repair and restore the
brain as well as the body. Children who have a good night's sleep pertorm better
at school thus imp8Cting positively on their edu¢ational outcomes.
Summary of the main aclivitles
undertaken for the public
benefit in relation to these
objects {include within this
section the statutory

Commlssion on public benefit)
Our Hol￿aY Hunger Campaign continues to run in tha F8bruary. E8Ster afjd
Summer sch￿1 holidays with more schools requesting food for their families in
need. Poverty 15 rife in our comMun￿lY and our donated food bags are vital to
enable parents to feed their children during the school holidays when they don't
have access to freé school meals or school based food clubs. 8asic store
cupboard food items are provided as a base for a nutiition81 me81 which can help
prevent ma1￿utrition. Children with malnLttrttion are more susceptible to inlection
and rnore likely lo access NHS sorvices.
Our Christmas Hamw CampaMJn continues to grow •ach y8ar with nominations
from our referral partners such as schools, local authority le3ms and other local
chalities. W8 do nr>t ac¢ept self-r8f8trals but rely on the professional judgment ol
our partner agencies targeting those in financial hardship who would not be able
lo provide food and gifts for their family alleviating some of the stress and having a
positNe effect on health and well*eing. Past recip*nts of ihe hampers continue to
contact us to support notjust our Christtvas Hamper Campaign but also with our
CTiSiS Requests reaching out to hglp those now in need as they were onoe. rhe
support from our community has been amazing and continues lo bind the
community tog8ther_ Local college students continue to volunteer and this year
also organised the collection and making of their own hampers to be donated in
support of other young people who we support in the community. This has
benefited the studonts lo understand the social make up of their comrnunity and
understand the differing needs of th6 wid8r community.

Financial review
Cash at bank at 0510412024 was £43187 in unrestrieted fijnds plus £1290 in gift
vouchers. The main Iinan¢i81 risk to the charity is loss of donations due to
person81 financial uncertainty due to the continued current economic crisis. Wè
¢onlinue to fundraise but this is only a small part of our income- we rely on local
individuals and business for the majority of our income and w8 continue to
pursue the involvement of local businesses.
