## **Description of the charity’s trusts**

Type of governing document

Constitution – Association model, adopted 16[th] September 2021

- (eg. trust deed, constitution)

How the charity is constituted

Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO)

- (eg. trust, association, company)

Trustee selection methods

- (eg. appointed by, elected by)

All current trustees stand down and are eligible for re-election at the AGM. A notice for the AGM will be sent to members at least 14 days before the date of the meeting including a nomination form. New trustees can also be co-opted by the existing committee at any time, as long as the maximum number of trustees does not exceed 10.

## **Additional governance issues (Optional information)**

You **may choose** to include additional information, where relevant, about:

- policies and procedures adopted for the induction and training of trustees;

- the charity’s organisational structure and any wider network with which the charity works;

- relationship with any related parties;

- trustees’ consideration of major risks and the system and procedures to manage them.

In the event of an individual expressing interest in joining the charity as a trustee, they will be provided with the “Joining Friends of Myrtle Park as a Trustee” document, the Essential Trustee guide and an application form. The former provides key information about the requirements of acting as a trustee for the charity. The application form provides existing trustees with information about why the individual wants to join and what skills they can bring.

Each newly appointed trustee will be given a copy of the constitution, a copy of the latest annual accounts and trustees report, and referred to guidance on the roles and responsibilities of a trustee available on the Charity Commission website.

The trustees oversee the day to day running of the group. All trustees give their time voluntarily and receive no remuneration or other benefits.

We have a paid membership scheme that we advertise via social media and to visitors in the park, which provides a small income to enable us to put on free activities and events, and for additional resources for the Park Hub and its upkeep.

We seek the views of our members and visitors via social media, newsletters, emails and questionnaires.

We work with the Parks Manager at Bradford Council as well as the gardeners and council staff, raising any issues and working together to improve the park for visitors.

## **Section C Objectives and activities**

**Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document**

The object of the CIO is for the benefit of the inhabitants of Bingley, Bradford City (“the area of benefit”), to provide or assist in the provision of facilities for recreation and other leisure time occupation in the interests of social welfare with the object of improving the conditions of life for the inhabitants of the area of benefit in particular but not exclusively by the preservation, promotion, support, assistance and improvement of Myrtle Park, Bingley, Bradford City.

The trustees confirm that they are aware of the need to make decisions to ensure the best public benefit possible, in line with guidance issued by the Charity Commission.

**Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)**

We hold bi-weekly action days on a Sunday morning, run by the trustees and open to members of the public to volunteer to help. This involves gardening and maintenance of several community beds. We open the Park Hub to visitors every Sunday afternoon to look at the displays and information about the park, make use of the children’s nature activities and resources, and provide leaflets on local groups and community activities. We also organise family activities.

Section D                      Achievements and performance

**Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year**

- We organised a day of activities in the park on Saturday 3rd May during the Bingley25 festival: a pop-up farm, craft activities under the gazebo, showings of the “Hot Dogs” documentary about whipping racing in the far meadow from 1968, and a history talk titled “Myrtle Place to Myrtle Park” by Hugh Figgess. We also supported the Melosa Jazz group and the Great Yorkshire Chorus who performed on the bandstand on Sunday 4th and Monday 5th May.

- Together with staff from Damart, we hosted a joint celebration picnic on 11th June welcoming 40 guests representing the local council and community groups. The funding we received from the Damartex Foundation enabled us to refurbish the area, including a mural on the concrete wall, the installation of three picnic benches and an interpretation board describing the history of this popular location in the park.

- The second picnic on 29th June was an opportunity to celebrate the park and say a big thank you to all the volunteers, community groups and organisations that support our activities. The funding was provided by Bradford25’s Dress It Up Fund. We made fabric bunting in the Bradford25 colours and hung it around the sunken garden, as a symbol of the ongoing progress we are making to renovate this area.

- We supported the Bingley Bantams Second Annual Bingley Duck Race, on the River Aire, held on 12th July 2025. We were very grateful to receive a £500 donation from this event, which we will be putting towards the costs of establishing a community orchard.

- A new Bingley Heritage Trail was installed at five locations across the town and launched on 14th September 2025: Market Square, Train Station, Prince of Wales Park, Myrtle Park and Five Rise Locks. Our installation reflects on the Bingley Show and includes two animal benches. We also added the final piece to the refurbishment of the old paddling pool area just in time for the launch of the trail. A new information board explains the history of the pool and includes reflections of happy childhood memories from Bingley residents.

- We supported Bradford25 with their project to paint a new mural on the skatepark. They organised a number of workshops engaging with skateboarders, scooter riders and park-users to design a fun, bright colourway for the concrete jumps, completed at the end of September.

- 22 volunteers planted 1300 crocus bulbs on 2nd November, donated by Bingley Airedale Rotary Club in support of the Purple for Polio campaign.

- Our Secretary, and one of our volunteers have given several talks over the course of the year to local Rotary clubs and organisations, whose donations have been given to FoMP raising valuable funds.

- We started discussions with Bingley Bloomers, the Bingley 5 Rise

Section D                      Achievements and performance

Frocks WI gardening group, and Fruitworks, a social enterprise company, to plan a community orchard for the park. A location has been chosen, and we’ve started to promote the project to the local community. FOMP will contribute the donations we’ve received from the last two years' duck races to the costs for planting the orchard in the Autumn. We’re working with the WI to raise the additional funds needed and hope to also install an information board and bench.

## **Ongoing activities**

From March until October, we continue to hold our bi-weekly Action Days in the park and invite members of the public to join us. We are engaged in ongoing improvements to the sunken garden and a community long bed, an area around the newly instated rose arbour and to our veg beds.

We support Bingley Town Council and Bingley Music Town with the summer programme of bands that perform on the bandstand, and advertise the programme on our Facebook page and notice boards. An electrical supply was installed to the bandstand in 2024, which now enables a larger range of groups to perform.

We continue to open the Park Hub to the general public every Sunday afternoon. This gives visitors a chance to read our displays to learn more about the park. Our children’s corner offers nature-themed toys, books, dressing up clothes and colouring sheets to our younger visitors. We also provide bug hunter kits that can be taken out by young families free of charge. We have a wide range of nature spotter sheets to cover all the seasons which can be taken out by families and adults with clipboards and pens to mark off their finds. We offer free use of the Hub to various local groups such as Action Stations, Walkers are Welcome, Bingley Glen Bowling Club, Grim up North running group and an Art Club.

## **Section E                    Financial review**
