## **WRC Chair Report AGM Thursday 20[th] June 2024**

## **Introduction**

Welcome to our 2024 AGM, lets begin with the first item on the agenda;

## **1. Apologies:**

## **2. Minutes of the last AGM:**

I hope you have all read and digested last year's minutes. I now need a proposer to accept the minutes from Waterford Recreation Committee’s 2023 AGM. And a seconder.

Thank you.

## **3. The Chairs Report by Lacey:**

It has been an exciting first year for me in my position as the new Chair. With extremely big shoes to fill, I hope I have led this year with the integrity, compassion, resilience and strengths that I learned from my wonderful predecessor and friend, Barbara.

Firstly, heading back to July last year when we entered Hertford In Bloom and won first prize in the Community Group. Once again we had a gorgeous display around the hall thanks to the amazing team of Jane Guinn, Tess Gatens and Brian and Linda Wilkerson and of course all of the hardworking watering team!

Another year where the hard work and dedication didn’t go unnoticed and it is all thanks to the wonderful team who put this together, dedicated their own time and produced floral displays and gardens to make us proud to live in such a picturesque village. We are entering again this year and the hard work has already begun. If you wish to get involved please let me know and we can pass your details onto Jane.

In August last year, we replaced our old goalpost with a new goal fit for a training ground! I’m sure all those who have a young David Beckham or Jill Scott appreciate the time and effort that was put in to ensuring the safety and quality was fulfilled for our budding footballers. It is rarely seen not being played with so it was money worth investing.

The end of the summer saw the return of our famous Summer Fete! And what a day it was! The sun shone beautifully for us with it reaching 30 degrees. The dog show was a huge success as always, bringing different breeds from around the village together to compete to win their rosettes. The Helter Skelter was a new addition and a popular one at that! The BBQ

and bar queue never seemed to stop and the ice creams were a lovely treat to cool us down. Each stall did incredibly well with lots of beautiful handmade crafts sold on our craft, plant and produce stall! The whole day was enjoyed alongside a wonderful performance from Peter and Pat and their fabulous tunes followed by a few songs from Stapleford School Choir. Altogether the day was a great success that was enjoyed by all and showed Waterford at its best raising a substantial amount for the new Village hall at £3031!

In October we held our always popular Quiz Night hosted by Jo and Rod which was a huge success with an evening full of laughter, competitiveness and a fish and chips supper.

November saw another successful Bonfire Night with our child and animal-friendly fireworks creating a wonderful display alongside our huge bonfire! The night is always one of our most popular events and the arrangements and organisation from the committee on the evening ensured it went as smoothly as possible and was another triumph keeping up our reputation of one of the best firework nights around!

This all was followed by my personal favourite event to end 2023 with our Christmas Bazaar. This year we changed the format slightly with it being more of a ‘Christmas Café’ feel with warm mince pies and mulled wine on offer and a visit from Father Christmas himself. Alongside the warm atmosphere, attendees had the chance to buy from our beautiful craft stall including products homemade by our very own craft team and very talented ladies.

March this year saw what Waterford does best and got together as a community for our Book Sale Coffee Morning. This gave residents the chance to catch up and chat over a coffee and a cake and the opportunity to buy a book or two. This proved a huge success and we will definitely be running another again soon!

As Spring arrived our Easter Bazaar took place. As with the Christmas Bazaar, we changed the format slightly to more of an ‘Easter Café’ selling crafts and giving those that attended the chance to enter our raffle, take part in the chocolate tombola and the kids do some Easter crafts and enjoy an egg hunt all washed down with a hot cross bun and a cup of tea!

Following on from the success of the previous years' Jubilee Picnic, we decided to host a Village May Day Picnic this year with all the villagers invited to join us for an afternoon of picnics, music from Lloyd and Jess, ice creams and a Pimms or Beer from the bar. Children enjoyed the bouncy castle and the weather managed to hold out for us. The day finished with a now annual tradition of a tug of war with the High Road against the rest of the Village. The competition was tight with the rest of the village our overall winners! Although it is a non-profitable event, it was, as it should be, about bringing the villagers together and enjoying what our wonderful village has to offer.

And this brings the years activities to a close. However, I must mention next Friday we are trialling our first ever Waterford Pop Up Pub where we hope you will all attend. The Village Pub is open from 6 to 9pm and it is being run by our wonderful neighbours and fellow Waterforders, Eleanor and Mike. Any help and support is always welcome so please let me know if you wish to help at all on the night and I will pass on your details.

As with all events, these are not possible without the help and support of not only the Committee, but the residents willing to give up their time to volunteer and attend and for this, we are extremely grateful. Thank you.

Now onto item 4 on the agenda, the Financial Report delivered by Treasurer Jo Willis.
