Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year
Hazelnut Bristol
- Hazelnut Church Bristol
Hazelnut Community Bristol has been meeting for worship in the garden/churchyard of St Anne’s, Bristol, since March 2023
This year we have continued to deepen our rhythms of Christian spirituality. Over the summer Bryony is leading a series of talks on rhythm of life.
-
Gardening basics course
-
Growing in our new location
-
Giving food to coexist community kitchen
-
Growing through local people and Hong Kongers
-
Joint collaboration with St. Anne’s
Safeguarding
We have been pleased to have Jon Davies as our safeguarding officer at Hazelnut Bristol. Clare Fussell is our trustee with responsibilities for safeguarding.
This year we have worked with the Diocese of Bristol to have an up-todate rigorous safeguarding policy. We have continued to put policies in place to encourage safeguarding best practice. Our Trustees have now all been DBS checked as well. We have a standing item regarding safeguarding at every trustee meeting. This year we have had no safeguarding issues. Next year we will aim to continue to develop robust policies.
-
Conservation
This spring we carried out a audit of our water usage. We are having an outside tap installed. We have also applied for a grant for more water butts to be installed to reduce our tap water usage.
We have created two vertical growing spaces to show how to grow in small spaces as well as create fun areas for kids
We created a new composting area and hope to create more of our own soil. We have also applied for a grant for a hot composter unit in order to encourage more neighbourhood waste turned into soil.
-
Community engagement
This year we created a seed library that is a mixture of British Heirloom seeds and seeds the represent local cultures. Many seeds have been given out in order to equip and encourage local growers.

Section D Achievements and erformance p
We have had many open days including the launch of our seed library, harvest, Christmas around the fire, summer garden day, and a concert. Through these events alone we have had over 600 people attend.
- Hong Kong
We have had a large number of families who have resettle from Hong Kong join our community. We have an average of 5 families come on a Sunday to our Church service with new families coming each week.
-
Collaboration
We have continued to be a Partner in Action with A Rocha which has been an amazing collaboration with another conservation charity.
We have been able to collaborate with St. Anne’s not only through use of their garden. We have also had joint events and John has preached at their church.
Network
- Hazelnut Community
A large piece of work for this year has been relaunching the network. Now called Hazelnut Community, it is designed to support churches in creating eco congregations on their land in order to deepen worship, welcome their community, and combat climate breakdown.
Through this project we have redone the website, hired 3 content creators at 4 hours a week each. Created new resources that churches can use. Have just launched in May we have 4 churches signed up with many more about to sign up. Our aim is for 30 churches to sign up within the next year.
- Hosting/ speaking
We have begun to have wider influence through speaking engagements. we have spoken at many different churches and eco gatherings.
