## **The Worcestershire Homeless Appeal**

The Trustees of the Worcestershire Homeless Appeal present their annual report and accounts for the year ended 31[st] August 2023 and confirm they comply with the requirements of the Charities Act and the Charities SORP (FRS102).
## **OUR AIMS & OBJECTIVES**
The Worcestershire Homeless Appeal aims to prevent or relieve poverty in Worcestershire by providing items and services to individuals and families in need, and / or to charities or other organisations working to prevent or relieve poverty with the Trustees having a regard to the Charity’s Commission guidance on the public benefit. We seek to provide a weekly pantry to the local community with groceries, toiletries and other household essentials. Additional support has also been offered by providing 600 Easter Eggs and providing 500 Christmas gifts of toys for children as well as supplementing the food packages with Aldi vouchers to enable families to provide a Christmas meal at home.
We are a volunteer community of 28, who welcome anyone to support our Charity which we have seen to have supported individuals who are alone, suffering from mental health or wanting to be part of a volunteer community. This has created strong bonds, a sense of belonging and genuine friendships across the group of volunteers.
## **ACHIEVEMENTS & PERFORMANCE**
The Worcestershire Homeless Appeal aims to reduce food poverty within the community as well as reduce food waste from food distribution centres and supermarkets. Food and essential items are collected directly from Oakland International, Mullers, Mindful Chef and various local supermarkets to be made into support packages for those families in need.
Our mission is to support anyone who feels they can benefit from the services we offer; individuals do not need to provide any proof or information regarding their current situation and we would not turn anyone away. Between 60 and 100 families are supported weekly with from the Pantry.
The unit has been fitted with a walk-in chiller and freezer which has provided the opportunity to store food for longer. The ambient area of the unit is fully shelved. The unit has been fully operational since February 2023. Collections are made with our own vehicle from the food centres and supermarkets and delivered into the unit and stored in preparation for the weekly pantry service.
Distribution of the support packages is operated on a Wednesday from the Droitwich Spa Baptist Church.
## **FINANCIAL REVIEW**
The Worcestershire Homeless Appeal is a non-profit charity with all support being on a voluntary basis.
Income for the period was £40,132 made up of Pantry membership and donations online (JustGiving) or offline donations from local businesses or individuals and grants from local councils, with a total expenditure of £28308, giving a net income £11824. We have 2 bank accounts as we only had a Treasurers Account when the charity was started but during 2022, we were able to open a Charity Bank Account.
The currents assets are made up of £5289 in the Treasurers Account and in the Charity Account, a balance of £6013.
Total income from membership for the year came in at £12,177. Each member is allocated bags of groceries consisting of bakery items, fruit and vegetables, fridge, and ambient food as well as other essential items if available.
An income of £4617 was funded by grants from Wychavon District Council. Donations and fundraising amounted to £23,338 from main benefactors of Zamann M Suzuki Carry, Centiant International, Socks and Chocs, A Czerniak, A Sealey Foodies and crowd funding campaigns.
Fuel costs of £2901 is for the refueling of the one van doing the collections from suppliers of food and delivering to the Pantry. £2511 was spent to maintain, repair, insure and tax the vehicle.
Sundry items are made up of purchases to support the outreach services of the Pantry, such as serving dishes, cutlery, napkins, tea & coffee, shopping bags and stationary supplies.
Not all food is supplied by donations and this year we saw an increase expenditure of £11,117 spent on supplementing the food packages distributed at the Pantry. This increase against the previous year was because supermarkets are have less wastage and not able to provide donations as per previous year. We also spent £2000 on vouchers from Aldi for Christmas.
Premises expenses have increased from £1525 in 21/22 to £6742 this year. Although the unit is rent free, we have costs associated to the unit for the electricity, insurances and equipment, etc.
We have a total cash balance of £15,302 with the intention of offering grants of £250 or £500 to local schools throughout the Droitwich Town Centre and surrounding areas to support school budgets for vulnerable families that are struggling to feed and clothe their children.
We continue to keep a reserve of £5,000 for emergency repairs to the vehicle, cover monthly background costs and food supplies.

## **STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT**
The Worcestershire Homeless Appeal is a Charity Incorporated Organisation – Foundation, registered on the 1[st] September 2021. It has powers to do anything which is calculated to further its object(s) or is conducive or incidental to doing so. The income and property are solely applied towards the promotion of the objects.
The current trustee panel are individuals who have supported the charity before it became registered in September 2021.
The charity has appointed 6 Trustees with the following terms: Ashlea stone – Chairperson (4 years) Rebecca Ricketts – Treasurer (3 years) Vanda Warrington – (3 years) Che Warrington – (3 years) Kay Ramsden – (3 years) Nathan Harold – (3 years)
Apart from the first charity trustees, every trustee is appointed for a term of 3 years and their appointment is selected for the skills, knowledge and experience needed for effective administration of the charity.
The Trustees all manage the affairs of the Worcestershire Homeless Appeal with a duty to perform their function in the way he or she decides in good faith that would be most likely to further the purposes of the charity. Decisions made by the trustees is in writing (or electronic form) agreed by the majority.

As the charity's trustees, you are sponsible for the preparatlon of the
accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011

I report in respect of my examination of th8 Trust's accounls carried out
under section 145 of the 2011 Act and In carying out my exarnination, I
have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission
under section 145(5)(b) of the Ad.
