REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES
FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2023
The Trustees have pleasure in submitting the Report and Accounts for the year ended 31 December 2023.
Objects of the charity
The charity is governed by a constitution and is constituted as a charitable incorporated organisation. As set out in its governing document the charity's principal objects, in Guatemala and in any other parts of the world, are:
a) to advance the Christian Faith through outreach, educational and other activities;
b) to advance education, especially of children, youth and families of limited resources, including through the running of educational programmes, vocational training and sporting activities; and
c) to relieve persons who are in conditions of need, hardship or distress through the provision of practical and other forms of support.
Summary of the charity's main activities and achievements
To further the above objects, since May 2023 the charity has been acting as the sole trustee of Portchester Free Church Trust ('PFCT') (charity number 1086444). For some years PFCT has been raising funds for, and making grants to, support missionaries and mission projects in Guatemala and this activity is continuing. Prior to May 2023 the charity was not engaged in any activities. Further information about these activities can be found in PFCT's annual accounts and on Mission Guatemala's website: https://www.missionguatemala.info/.
In planning the activities the Trustees have applied the guidance on public benefit issued by the Charity Commission.
Financial review
The charity did not undertake any transactions during the year.
Reserves policy
Apart from acting as the sole trustee of PFCT, the charity has no other activities and the trustees are satisfied that the charity does not need to hold any reserves.
Governance
Responsibility for setting policy and for making operating decisions for this charity and, since May 2023, for Portchester Free Church Trust rest with the trustees who meet regularly to monitor the activities of the charities. The chief executive officer of the separate missions organisation that operates in Guatemala (also known as Mission Guatemala) serves as an ex officio charity trustee. Other new trustees are recruited and appointed by the existing trustees, by a majority vote.
Responsibilities of trustees
Charity law requires us as Trustees to prepare financial statements for each accounting year which record the receipts and payments of the charity for the year.
We are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and enable us to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities Act 2011.
We also have a responsibility to safeguard the assets of the charity and to take reasonable steps to prevent fraud or any other irregularities.
Approval
