## STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT

Type of governing document: Constitution

How the charity is constituted: Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO)

## _Trustee selection methods_

The Trustee Board is responsible for appointing new trustees subject to requirements set out in the Charity’s governing documents. Potential new trustees are assessed on the basis of their experience, skills and motivation, as well as the Trustee Board’s own assessment of its gaps and the skills required to deliver the Charity’s strategy. This is primarily assessed through a candidate’s CV and meeting with one or more of the existing trustees.

## _Additional governance protections_

Christians for Impact has a conflict of interests policy. This policy and the associated register is reviewed at least annually.

Christians for Impact works closely with its USA counterpart, Christians for Impact USA, Inc., a registered (501(c)(3) organisation in the USA, EIN: 87-3363768), in ways that further its own charitable objectives.

## ACTIVITIES AND OBJECTS

_Background to understanding the activities carried out by Christians for Impact_

Christians For Impact’s activities from 1st July 2022 to 30th June 2023 can be split into three categories:

## _1. UK Community Building_

UK community building can be broken up between educational retreats, our conference, 1-on-1 conversations, and other speaking events. Notable events include:

   - a) A three-day in-person educational retreat in Cambridge in October 2022. The objective was to foster the UK community, create an opportunity for in-depth discussions and career mentorship.

   - b) Theme-specific conversations with external speakers, such as the “Faith, Poverty, and Rigorous Research” discussion in May 2023 with guests from the International Care Ministries charity.

   - c) A two-day conference in London. It consisted of talks, discussions, 1-on-1s, networking, workshops and a worship evening. The conference served the promotion of the organisation’s objectives, strengthening the community, equipping and empowering Christians to give more effectively, and to pursue highly impactful careers. The charity also organised a satellite event after the conference - an academic workshop on “Christian Responsibility in the 21st century”. This offered a unique opportunity to promote research and academic discussions on the intersection of Christianity and effective altruism.

_2. Websites and social media_

In addition to the website www.eaforchristians.org, the charity managed a new website www.christiansforimpact.org. The charity expanded its Facebook group, and launched a blog called “Christ and the Counterfactuals”, and continued its monthly community newsletter.

## _3. Online Events and Videos_

Christians for Impact ran an online four-week Intro Course. This allowed for an accessible introduction to the effective altruism principles and the Christians for Impact community. conference events.

## _A commitment to creating a public benefit_

All decisions taken by Trustees were taken solely with concern to creating benefits for the eventual beneficiaries, and any benefit to the immediate community was incidental to achieving this aim.

2

## Beneficiaries

When considering the projects undertaken it is helpful to distinguish between the immediate community and the eventual beneficiaries:

1. The immediate community are Christians in the UK and globally whom we support, encourage and inspire to give of their time, skills and money to charitable purposes, and to have concern for the efficiency and effectiveness of those contributions.

2. The eventual beneficiaries are the people who benefit from the contributions of time, skill and money. They represent as diverse a group as charitable causes cover, including, but not limited, to people living in poverty in developing countries, future generations, who might be impacted by climate change, or abused animals.

For example, Christians for Impact ran online and in-person events on effective giving for the immediate community. Members received talks from speakers with experience of making large donations and had a chance to discuss among each other their giving plans, such as during the “ _Effective Giving Meetup_ ” at the London conference. The aim of these events was to encourage guests to increase the size and effectiveness of their donations for the benefit of the eventual beneficiaries.

## Activities

The 2022-2023 fiscal year involved more in-person events than 2021-2022, as the community was rebuilding after the slowdown during the COVID-19 pandemic.
