TRUSTEES’ REPORT FOR THE PERIOD ENDED 5[TH] APRIL 2023
Structure, Governance and Management
School Drive is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, setup and run by four trustees who will serve the charity on an ongoing basis. No new additional trustees are planned to be appointed.
Objectives and Activities
For the public benefit, the advancement of education in Berkshire by the provision of school supplies and educational equipment in particular, but not limited to, school uniforms, stationary, shoes, sports kit and bags to children whose families could not otherwise afford to provide through a lack of means.
Public Benefit
School Drive aims to relieve poverty and financial hardship of people (regardless of race or religion) in need in the county of Berkshire. School Drive will provide financial support and or school supplies to ensure children and students have everything they need to attend primary & secondary school to further their education. School Drive will receive funding initially in the form of a charitable donation from the trustees (or companies owned by the trustees). School Drive will then seek both financial donations and the donation of goods (Eg. School Uniform) from both individuals and businesses. The trustees of School Drive will aim to collect and distribute the donations to families in Berkshire. We can confirm trustees have had regard to Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit.
Achievements and Performance
During this period we successfully rolled out the School Drive application process within the majority of Maidenhead primary and secondary schools. We met with a member of the senior leadership team at every school we approached, allowing us to build a relationship with the school and explain our simple application processes. During this period we obtained support from Tesco, School Days Direct and Maidenhead Bike Hub, we also had our website designed – explaining how and why School Drive was set up, whilst also providing a communication link for families/schools requiring support. We raised further awareness for School Drive through the publication of an article in our local paper, the Maidenhead Advertiser, which highlighted the support we can offer to those in need. During this period we have supported over 50 children (aged between 4- 18 years) in our local schools. We have donated many items of brand new school uniform, school shoes, coats, bags, stationery and sports kit to children whose families could not otherwise afford to provide through a lack of means. The donations of these items have allowed the children to feel equal to their peers and suitably equipped for their school day.
Financial Review
The first 12 months for the charity has been successful with significant funds raised to support the charities work going forward. We also received support from some large retailers (Tesco, Next and School days direct). The Charity currently has £80,229 in funds for the period ending 5[th] April 2023. We feel this will ensure we can continue to run the charity for many years and will continue to raise funds via donations on an ongoing basis.
Reserves Policy
The reserves at the end of the period were £80,229 which will be used to fund the ongoing charitable activities of the charity.
