Under their powers the Trustees delegate muth of the day to day administralion and OF*ration of the club to a Committee which operates in accordance with a constitution. This sets out the roles and responsibilities of the various Committee members. These posilions are appointed or reappointed at the Annual General Meeting of the Club. The club depends on volunteers giving their time freety for all roks Rthing Tnjstees, Committee members and Coaches. The club is open to all in the Souttiampton area above the age of 12 years and we have aclive members from 12 to 80+ The Club is affiliated to British Rowing and the Hants and Dorset Amateur Rowing association and follows all recommendations, adopts policies and submrts to audits including those relats'ng to child protection, health and Safety and risk management. For 60 years the rowing club operated from Southampton docks as a self-financing section of the British Transport Commission (BTC) Sports and Social Club. When the docks and railways were privatised the dub relocated in 1987 to Crosshouse Hard into buildings and on land leased from the City Council. It has operated as an Unincorporated Friendly Society until August 2021 when charity status was attained. Although the dub does not own it's buildings or land it has managed to build a large fieet of both coastal and fine boats as well as training and safety equipment. The Club monitors the needs for equipment and has developed a 5 year plan to add to and improve the assets in line wth the changing personnel. As a charity the Club has newly defined objectives as set OLrt above. As such, we now have philanthropic ambilions and responsibilities which go beyond the objectives of the old organisation. Key to the club being able to fulfil irs requirement of providlng a public benefit it needs to retain and improve ivs waterside premises. Charity status has enabled us to obtain significant additional funding and this will fomi the basis of a bid to make much needed improvements to the premises we lease at Crosshouse Hard. Southampton. However, this will require changes to our terms of lease and negotiations are underway with ' the City Council. Our ambilions for the premises improvements will also require further OL¢tside fvnding and this will form a major focus for the Trustees in the coming years. The Charity undertook certain key performance objectives in the past year. These included holding taster sessions to attract more new members, adding a new fine Coxless 4 to our fleet and upgrading one of our coaching launches. The Charity recognises that a key aspect of tying to increase participation is to ensure that cost Ss not a barrier. For that reason the dub offers free taster sessions and heavily discounted fees for children. full-time students. apprentices and all first year rowers. Page 3
Financlal Review ReseNes oltc The Charity holds reserve funds to ensure that ongoing project costs can be met when required and that operations Gqn continue in case any unforeseen circumstances arise. The reserves held on 31 st August 2025 were £68,938. The main risk the club faS is the loss of support of Southampton Cty Council. The premises whith they provide are vital but our lease arrangements do not provide a great deal of secunty of tenure and an improvement in our lease arrangements would help secure the club's medium to long tenn future. It is hoped that rf we can offer to self- fund improvements to the buildings we can enjoy better lease arrangements. Finan We have seen a rise in membership subscripbons from the previous year. reflecting a continued incr&28ed numbei of membets. These payments form our largest income stream in a nom)al year. Donations also fomi a good proportion of our income, much of this is from BTC Rowing Centre Ltd., a company set up by the Club to operate sales of drinks and snacks in the Clubhouse. Other personal and commercial donations were made to help improve the Club's regatta income. One personal donation was extremely generous arKI facilitated the purchase of the rtew Coxless 4, which was the largest expenditure item purchased at a cost of £1 Ok. The overall financial result for the year was a small surplus of income over expenditure of about £5k. otes irhancial None
